  • Jack was actually the last interview we shot for the film (squeezed in just as the pandemic started to die down in May 2021). Audiences have consistently cited his portions as a highlight; and we could not have told the story of the Nerves without him. To quote the title of his last compilation, he truly was "bigger than life".
The production remains grateful for his contributions, and sends condolences to his family and friends.
"Peter Case: A Million Miles Away" is available now on VOD.

I drove Jack to set the day he sat for an interview. First thing Jack said when he saw my Prius was "look at this piece of shit. You're gonna get no pussy driving this thing" and I told him, "you know Jack, I do all right for myself," he laughed and I knew we would be friends. I let him smoke in my car, he chained half a pack and lost his lighter in his seat. I still have that yellow bick. He sang me a song on the drive back, we were talking so much I missed the turn. Jack called me an asshole and hung his head out the window to ask the way to his street. When I dropped him off he told me, "don't tell anyone this is where I live," thanked me and shook my hand. He is still, to date, the coolest motherfucker I've ever met. Thanks Jack. RIP.

I spoke to Jack on the phone a month before he died. I had emailed his daughter to try and chase down the publishing rights for "Hanging On The Telephone" for a nothing-budget short film I'd been working on and she put me in touch with him. He asked me how much money I had to offer and I stuttered, trying to come up with an eloquent way to say "basically nothing". He cut me off before I could, and said "So you've got fuckin' zero, hey?". I told him he was right, more or less. Then he said, "I'll tell you what, right now, $500 to me is gonna feel like $500,000, so you send that to me and we've got a deal". I started to thank him, and he said "No, just shut up! You got a good thing going, don't fuck it up now! We've got a deal". He then went on to tell me he had a good feeling about me and he sensed I'd be doing bigger things later on, so I could cut him a bigger cheque on the next one. It seems like I won't get the chance but I feel very lucky to have spoken to him. RIP.

I was gonna play Peter in that movie "One WayTicket". We shot some stuff in San Francisco and the budget was lost shortly after. Damn, I was really looking forward to that movie! RIP Jack, I love you brother!

RIP Jack Lee. Saw the film in SF at the Balboa Theatre, with Peter's performance before and Q&A after. Loved the film, loved the event. Thanks to all.
