After struggling with this for 5 minutes with this dispenser I was getting increasingly frustrated, then my husband (IQ 160) took it from me and couldn't do it and so I told him to stop I will get it fixed. I went to UA-cam and there you are! Thank you very much, in less than 1 minute we were done.
Thank you SO much!!! I did the same thing - fooled with the dispenser for 20 minutes to change the tape and couldn't believe that I couldn't figure it out!!! Then I watched your video and...done!!! Big thumbs up!!! Thank you for making this video!!!!
I agree with everyone. Thank you and thank you for keeping this up years later. Sometimes it will come in plastic packing itself. So if you found where the first part of tape is and can’t get it to come off, that’s why.
Thanks so much for the demo of how to refill the scotch tape 315. I was wondering how to refill it. This was helpful! Just a little tip, when you want to tape your box/parcel, you can actually pull the tape with your left index finger and thumb with sticky side down, and stick it on the one side of the box/parcel, pull it from the dispenser and cut it off with the dispenser cutter on another side of the box. This way you can get exactly the length of tape you want for the box. Once you get used to it, you can actually stick it right from the dispenser, then pull the tape out, and cut it off with the dispenser cutter as you stick the tape onto a box or parcel. You don't need to pull it out using finger separately and stick it onto your parcel or box like that.
Thank you for this! It's not a silly video at all - many people (like myself) buy this product and don't know how to load/setup the dispenser so this is invaluable. Cheers!
LOL! Thanks for the tip. I love using the plastic model dispenser for big jobs at home, but surely some brainiac out there could come up with a better design. When I’m through taping & cut it off at the end, if the tape sticks back down on itself & I can’t easily see or peel up the end, I take scissors & make a very light, shallow cut across the roll. This makes a new “end” that’s easy to see & peel up. Then I pull gently until I get down to the portion of the roll that wasn’t cut through. It wastes some tape, but saves a lot of time & frustration! Good luck everybody!
Glad to know I am in good company. I also could not figure it out and was *hoping* somebody had posted a tutorial. Thank you, sometimes it's the small things in life!
thanks a lot! i found on sale today 6 tapes with the cutter, but when i reached home i don't know how to use this. And I found your video. Thanks a lot! 😘
They genius people who invented this device could do us all a favor a put some simple directions with a threading diagram. Your demonstration is very much appreciated. The thing I find helpful is to tell everyone the sticky side of the tape is actually up on this device when it meets the cutter. This is opposite of the small tape dispensers we have used for years where the sticky side is down at the cutter. You do not actually mention that in your video. But can be seen at frame 1:33 / 2:17 when you load the new roll. Thank you. That verifies it. And I agree with everyone who says this thing makes you feel very silly. 😦😦😦
Thanks so much for adding that clarification! It took me forever trying to figure this out for the first time, frustrating how they don't give directions. Wishing you the best and thanks so much for watching!
This video saved my butt tonight! I have been struggling with changing my tape roll out. I don’t know why it was that difficult for me, but this was a huge help thank you!
Thanks so much, I just used up all my parents tape for boxes but luckily I had an unopened tape lying around and could not for the life of me figure out how to change it 😅 Thanks again, now I know how to do it!!
I replaced the tape differently; flip it 180 deg from shown here so the sticky side of the tape runs below the cutter and the grip depressor tongue (see 1:09) is on top. That way you can tag the sticky side onto a surface then pull the tape out as you pull the tape along the surface, then tip the dispenser on its teeth to cut cut the tape when you have finished pulling. Leaves a short bit of sticky side up near the dispenser mouth, so I fold the tape over on itself so I can grab it next time.
Thanks for the video! These simple things can make me feel like an idiot!! I always bought a holder with the tape in it! Now I can just replace the tape!! 😁
Not a silly video at all but a helpful video 😀 Thank you so much it help a lot. I just wanted to make sure i was putting in the right side. Scotch should have a quick instructions display to help people use it right.
Not a silly video at all! I'm laughing at my inability to do this seemingly simple task! Your video helped. Wife can't believe I had to UA-cam it though. I'll let her do the next one :-))
Hey Peter-Neil, thanks for watching and glad the video helped! LOL, it's amazing how difficult changing out this tape really is, I spent wayyy too long trying to figure it out.
Your self deprecating honesty is greatly appreciated. I felt like a complete idiot for not being able to load the new roll of tape inside of the plastic dispenser subsequent numerous tries. There is also the hazard of getting cut on the blade while fiddling around. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video! I enjoyed your Ray Romano speaking style also. :-)
Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Carl! Glad the video was helpful. That's my real speaking style, lots of people have said I sound like Ray Romano though. Wishing you the best!
I want to say thank you for this video cause it sure did help cause this is very difficult to to use and even to put on the Scotch tape but I want to say thank you very much for helping us cuz my husband took like 30 minutes sure did stress him out to put the Scotch tape it seems easy but it's difficult but I want to thank you for helping us to replace the rolling tape and how to use it this video was,is a lot help cause it doesn't come with directions when I bought it I said it's not difficult it's easy just pull the tape out and use it but no it is difficult. Thanks
Thank you for video, you said it took you 20 minutes to figure out, took me that to try & find info on Google with pictures. Said to heck with it came here and under 2min. got it working. Thank you
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one to fumble with these dispensers. I'm a well seasoned (35+ years) auto mechanic, so it's not like I typically struggle to figure out moving parts, but there are so many different designs with flaps, guides, doors, rocket boosters, radar... OOFDAH! It's not the space shuttle. It's a TAPE DISPENSER!!!!
Ha! I'm never sure which way around the tape is supposed to go onto it, for a start. (Yes, Obviously I should look at the old one first. 😀 But I'm so clumsy that more than once I've dropped them and they've broken and I've tried to load an empty one that I've saved for this very reason!) I still don't really understand what the two little flaps are for and have always wondered whether the tape is supposed to feed through those first, when it's being used or for storage. But from your video it looks as though they are just a sort oi guide to keep the tape up. And at least now I know which way around to put the roll onto the dispenser, which is a big help! Thank you so much for this video.
All good video but I was also wondering if I was missing something with that double curved edges close to the blade end and the curved tongue at the top. What are they for
Hey Nnamdi, not sure why exactly they went with the extreme double curved design. My guess is the extra plastic provides a buffer, so the exposed tape won't accidentally get stuck on anything. Thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it. Wishing you all the best!
Omg, THANK YOU! I couldn't freaking figure it out on my own. I feel like an idiot. First it was Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo that I stuggled with (there is a youtube video for that one, so I was not alone lmao). And now reloading packaging tape. I may be an adult but I'm always learning new things haha. Thank you again!
Very helpful! Thanks so much. And thanks to the other commenters for chiming in -- now I don't feel like so much of a dolt for not being able to sort this out.
LOL I completely understand, Harris! It's amazing how complicated such a 'simple' tape dispenser can be. Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad the video was helpful!
Is there a way to load this so after a piece is torn off the remaining piece does not reattach to the roll (which requires the scraping it off which the fingernails?) Maybe that is just part of the usual drill, or maybe I am just stupid.
The tape is supposed to stay in place after each use, so it's not necessary to scrape it off the roll, although what you described inevitably does happen from time to time. Make sure the tape is inside the guides before tearing, maybe try going a bit slower. Hope this helps, good luck and thanks for watching!
@ I do not see anything on mine where the guides would be, though I seem to have the same model as you. I guess mine broke off at some point. Thank you for responding.
@@JonathanBrowneMenzies update, I was just at the store. The “gun” looking model has the guides. The smaller one I bought does not, so at least that mystery was solved…
This was NOT a silly video. I could not figure out I to use it less alone change an empty roll of tape. Thank you, I now understand this dispenser only cuts the tape. I need the pistol handled tape dispenser selling for 14.00 at home depot.
Thanks for watching, Gail Maria! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. LOL the pistol handled dispenser is sweet. When this one breaks, that will be my go-to!
Thanks so much for watching, spawn! I'm a huge fan of Everybody Loves Raymond, but I don't hear the similarities in our voices. You're not the first person to say that though LOL
I use a small binder clip on the overlapping plastic thing that keeps the sides together, otherwise the sides constantly separate in use. Does anybody know how to keep the tape end from curling back and sticking to the roll, making it annoyingly difficult to peel off the roll again? (I tried jamming a toothpick in the hollow of the two side nubs that are there to try to keep the tape end from falling back onto the roll, and the toothpick was a big improvement, but it soon fell out. Maybe next I'll try a rubber band around the neck behind the toothed cutting blade; perhaps I'll notch the plastic to keep the rubber band from sliding out of position.)
Discipline. EVERY time you use the dispenser, after you cut off the tape, be sure to press the stick-out end of the tape down onto those two little tabs and make the tape stick to the tabs. Do this BEFORE you accidentally back the roll up and the tape can stick to the next layer on the roll. Some people even go further: Before storing the dispenser, wrap the stick-out end AROUND the two tabs and press the middle of the resulting flap and squeeze it so it sticks back to itself. This creates a tab similar to what a new roll has, so to tape another package, you'll have to first pull out and cut off this little tab with the serrated cutter. Well, maybe you can figure it out.
Great video, thank you! Hey, I've been wondering for a long time if this type of dispenser is supposed to be used to actually apply the tape. I haven't been able to get it to do that, and I noticed in your video that you ripped off the tape yourself rather than using the dispenser itself to apply and cut the tape AFTER application. So, now I'm thinking that this type of dispenser just doesn't work that way?
Hey NSpector, thanks for watching! I think the dispenser is designed to quickly and efficiently tape boxes, but it must take lots of practice to get good at it. Since I only use the tape dispenser occasionally, I just rip it off. If anyone has any tips on how to use the dispenser correctly, please let us know!
You put your 4 fingers through the inside big hole that holds the tape-roll and your thumb down on the long bendy-down tab and stick the tape end down on your box. Press the output end down on the box and pull it along. Finally push cutter end down on the box, pushing down on that aforementioned tab and sort of push/twist/shear off the tape. The tab thing keeps the reel from paying out any more tape so the only thing that happen is the tape gets cut off nicely. So, it's nothing like a desk scotch-tape dispenser. The sticky-side never sticks down nicely on behind the cutter. In theory you could take out the tape and mount it other way around if you just want lengths of tape before you stick that length down on something. Then the dispenser-end of the tape would stick down conventionally. Depends on which sort of convienience you want.
Hey Victoria, you're not the only one to have issues with this tape dispenser, there is definitely room for improvement! Hope the video was somewhat helpful. Wishing you the best and thanks so much for watching!

You're welcome, etogalya! Glad the video was helpful! Ray is a gifted actor, but I just don't hear any resemblance LOL.
I took a 2 week course online to figure out how to do this. I'm now certified Scotch whisky drinker.
LOL, thanks so much for commenting, Mark! Enjoy the whisky!
Thank you!

Happy to help!
I like your ideas, Williard. You're definitely thinking outside the box. Thanks for watching!
Hahaha .Thank you kindly.... I was getting frustrated!
