This minigame tells a story.
Mario beats the crap out of Bowser. Peach rewards Mario with some of her peachy charm. Mario faints. Bowser steals back Peach. The end.

I always found this minigame to be creepy on how badly it's animated. It didn't help that it isn't unlockable till like the final board of the game.
