This is just a personal opinion, I respect Demi and Kerli both. But Kerli wrote this piece. It came from her mind, her heart, and her hand. So for me there is a genuine window to what she's feeling. It gives this song so much more emotion. Demi's cover of this was fantastic. She can relate to it incredibly well no doubt, and there is emotion, but I do not think it is as direct or deep as this song is to the one who wrote it. :3
It's said that Bonnie Tyler was one of her early influences. Kerli's take on Skyscraper is magnificent, just like Bonnie Tyler's version of Making Love Out Of Nothing At All is positively celestial.
I appreciate that some songs can be performed by some artists exceedingly well but for me I have complete admiration for singer/songwriters and who, I feel, can express their music in a way other singers can only hope to equal. @iTeacupPanda she's dealt with 2 eating disorders, bipolar, self-harm, and more. She didn't publicize her problems to tell her sob story. She did it so she can tell people they're not alone and to inspire them and prove it does get better. She's dealt with more than the average person. And like I said she doesn't just make pop music, and you obviously haven't heard her emotional ballads. They're really touching.
This song is also very personal to Kerli. "I come from a very small place in Eastern Europe so my whole life has kind of been one big fight to live my dream against all odds. But I think it's hard to be a human in general - we all have our own struggles and things to overcome." - Kerli
I don't get why everyone is fighting. Kerli praised Lovato's take on the song. "I always say that songs are messages and artists are messengers, and at this point in time there is no better messenger for this song than Demi. Not hating here... but reading these comments... Does anyone realize the last person to sing in this song IS Demi. Demi and Kerli are actually friends. Both are good, I perfer Kerli more as she is my favorite artist, but I like Demi's as well.
Listen to her songs "Heal" "Nature Boy" and "Hurt Me" to hear really chilling high notes of Kerli's... she doesn't throw high notes around in every single song to show off, she does it in some... and when she does it's hauntingly beautiful.
Kerli has to stop selling her songs... seriously. I know its her life and she can make her own decisions but, she deserves to be known by everybody. She has talent, a beautiful voice, and a great personality.
I found Kerli years ago when her song "Walking on air" came out and I just looked up her newer songs now and WOW I'm really impressed. I never knew she wrote this! She's an amazing writer. Her lyrics are beautiful.
animallover5626 Repeating myself ad nauseum, Kerli won my little black heart when I saw her perform Walking On Air on the 2008 Spike TV Scream Awards. Sometimes we find what we like, sometimes what we like finds us.
animallover5626 By any chance did you hear her take on Somewhere Over The Rainbow? I grew weary of the song but she made it worth hearing again. The other two to do the same with that song were Kermit the Frog's nephew Robin and the Master of the Macabre, Vincent Price.
The point is: the master mind behind the song is Kerli ;). A lot of persons out there can sing but not many of them can actually write a meaningful song. The thing you're criticizing is her ACCENT.
havent heard this song in a long time but after listening to demis take and Kerli's original take i will say that i like Kerli's better simply because it is more powerful as in she has been hurt but she is fighting back whilst demis is mainly just hurt but slowly getting that i can take it feel. love both versions but as a song about rising above everything ill have to give it to kerli
Kerli has really touched me , no matter who sings better or not , maybe u like Demi´s version cuz its more known but Im glad Kerli wrote it cuz She´s not so known as I wish or many of her fans wish , so its amazing that people listen to that song even If it´s for Demi or Kerli !!! Im not a Demi fan but she has a great voice and Kerli too , so dont say Kerli cant sing this song , she wrote it -.-
I love that Kerli wrote, sung, and gave this song to Demi Lovato. But I will say, say that Demi Lovato's version brings me to tears, Kerli's version doesn't, but I think that's because Demi's voice. Anyway, love you both.
Hey! Demi has done multiple cover of Lil Wayne and other artists in different genres! She has some songs in R&B, and has a lot of ballads! Demi has done covers of some of her songs in spanish! And Demi is beautiful too, inside and out. She's had eating disorders for crying out loud and she has literally saved lives! So dont't EVER make fun of Demi because her Lovatics are like SUPER dedicated!
Every once in a while I have to come on here to listen to this cuz it’s the only place I can hear it the real version the best version. I still feel the best song was given away for some crocodile tears Kerli you are way too sweet for your own good you say you “have no right singing it after hearing Demi sing it” but you are wrong Demi has no right to sing it cuz it will always be your baby and your pain that created it
But props to Kerli for writing this amazing song, and to Demi for making me a better person, inspiring me, and putting so much emotion into this song when she sings it
See nothing wrong with Kerli's voice and accent, she is a good singer, she has an amazing voice, she wrote the song, not Demi, but Demi's voice is powerfull, I love both versions, it's a shame Kerli isn't that famous.
Demi does write her own music. Just not all of it. Demi does music in varied styles. Don't discount her just because she isn't Kerli. You're real fuckin' rude to insinuate she only does one genre. That, and Kerli wrote the song that you're calling generic.
I think people "like" the other version better because it's sung much more "conventionally". That and people probably heard this one last. Lovati has an average-good voice. But there is something that sets this one over the edge, and I think it's the tone of her voice and the simplicity of it.
And I'm sorry but... "Demi doesn't do that for me or for a lot of people"? Seriously? She's a role model for millions and millions of people, you can't say she doesn't feed a lot of souls. That'd be ignoring the reality. She was named the honorary chairperson of the Mental Health Awareness Day, now she has the Lovato Treatment Scholarship and so many things more. You may not like her, but you can't ignore the impact she made in this world.
I love Kerli and she did an incredible job writing this song, but Demi's version has more passion and she did it justice so Kerli should be happy that she gave it to her.
also i love This version Kerli did Write this song and in demi's version i bet you guys didnt know that Jordin Sparks was her backup vocals look it huns if you guys buy the artists albums all the credits goes to whom they belong to instead of all yall fighting for nothing ... Youre Welcome :D
demi can speak multiple languages, she has spanish and hispanic background and even did a spanish version of this song. she writes her own music and she can read music as she plays both piano and guitar, demi has different genres of music:-) just correcting your statement

Hold on! Don't judge that quickly. Kerli has been through a lot : she has bipolar disorder, fought against depression, attempted suicide, her father was violent to her mother... And as she's older than Demi I guess she's been through a lot more/enough to write deep songs.
i don't know kerli's story! i know demi's 'cause i'm a lovatic! i love the lyric of Skyscraper and to me kerli did an amazing job writting, but i mean, Demi sing way to better than kerli in my opinion after listen both versions! My respects for Kerli honestly ! she's amazing as Demi !

I found Kerli years ago when her song "Walking on air" came out and I just looked up her newer songs now and WOW I'm really impressed. I never knew she wrote this! She's an amazing writer. Her lyrics are beautiful.

Repeating myself ad nauseum, Kerli won my little black heart when I saw her perform Walking On Air on the 2008 Spike TV Scream Awards. Sometimes we find what we like, sometimes what we like finds us.

By any chance did you hear her take on Somewhere Over The Rainbow? I grew weary of the song but she made it worth hearing again. The other two to do the same with that song were Kermit the Frog's nephew Robin and the Master of the Macabre, Vincent Price.
The point is: the master mind behind the song is Kerli ;). A lot of persons out there can sing but not many of them can actually write a meaningful song. The thing you're criticizing is her ACCENT.
Wow! this is so beautiful> This girls sing with her heart and soul! It touches my heart!
wow i get the chills just listening to this version for the first time
havent heard this song in a long time but after listening to demis take and Kerli's original take i will say that i like Kerli's better simply because it is more powerful as in she has been hurt but she is fighting back whilst demis is mainly just hurt but slowly getting that i can take it feel. love both versions but as a song about rising above everything ill have to give it to kerli
i'm getting chills all over.
Im not a Demi fan but she has a great voice and Kerli too , so dont say Kerli cant sing this song , she wrote it -.-
i love this song. i love kerli. this song is very well done.
Wooow emotional voice very nice to hear
Kerli's version is more to dark while Demi's is more to sad. BOTH GREAT though
I love that Kerli wrote, sung, and gave this song to Demi Lovato. But I will say, say that Demi Lovato's version brings me to tears, Kerli's version doesn't, but I think that's because Demi's voice. Anyway, love you both.
I like Kerli's demo and Demi's released version but, I wish I could hear Jordin Sparks' demo. She has background vocals on Demi's version.
Love this! Love Kerli!!!!
Every once in a while I have to come on here to listen to this cuz it’s the only place I can hear it the real version the best version. I still feel the best song was given away for some crocodile tears Kerli you are way too sweet for your own good you say you “have no right singing it after hearing Demi sing it” but you are wrong Demi has no right to sing it cuz it will always be your baby and your pain that created it
yeah i noticed that too! glad someone else heard that.
So beautiful she wrote an amazing song and sings it just as beautifully. :)
Absolutely!! Plus she co-wrote it. AMAZING!!!
i love her so much!
But props to Kerli for writing this amazing song, and to Demi for making me a better person, inspiring me, and putting so much emotion into this song when she sings it
OMG I WAS WAITING TOO LONG TIME AGO TO LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE ON QUEENS VOICE❤
she is so generous she gives loads of help to other singers to kick start there career and I feel sad cause she should be more popular
That, and Kerli wrote the song that you're calling generic.
i like both tbh because demi and kerli are both amazing so everyone calm down
Proud to be from Estonia, like Kerli :)
I love when any artist sings whispering, I don't know why, but I think it's beautiful
I love both
Kerli's version is better than Demi's in my opinion. Both are quite flawless though
No, let's not lie! No one can touch Demi's version even though Kerli did good
I think people "like" the other version better because it's sung much more "conventionally". That and people probably heard this one last. Lovati has an average-good voice. But there is something that sets this one over the edge, and I think it's the tone of her voice and the simplicity of it.
NICE! Both versions are great. Love Kerli's Walking on Air. I hope she gets promotion with the switch of record companies
You all think Demi's version is better because you are used to Demi's version.
They BOTH put a lot of emotion in it. Demi sounds more sad and reflective and I think Kerli sounds angrier.
Kerli is the best singer ever
I love Kerli and she did an incredible job writing this song, but Demi's version has more passion and she did it justice so Kerli should be happy that she gave it to her.
ABSOLUTELY!!
I just discovered Kerli, and she is amazing.
I Will Find You is a great song...
and she wrote this song... WOW
Kerli is so real. Her lyrics are so touching
i always wondered why i liked "skyscraper" so much...
also i love This version Kerli did Write this song and in demi's version i bet you guys didnt know that Jordin Sparks was her backup vocals look it huns if you guys buy the artists albums all the credits goes to whom they belong to instead of all yall fighting for nothing ... Youre Welcome :D
Kerli is perfect.
And also she has written and cowritten most of her songs.
demi can speak multiple languages, she has spanish and hispanic background and even did a spanish version of this song. she writes her own music and she can read music as she plays both piano and guitar, demi has different genres of music:-) just correcting your statement
Firt time that i've hear this and it's pretty cool, her voice is so knid and i agree reminds me of Bjork bur c'mon Demi is waaay better not only for the voice, the passion, the meaning of the lyrics for her and for all the people that this song help 'cause of Demi and his story! Kerli it's amazing song writter but in this one Demi BEAT HER!
I'm a Lovatic but I love Kerli too. WHY DO YOU NEED TO COMPARE? They're both talented and beautiful in their own ways.
Ok everybody she and Demi are both beautiful singers so so flip all you haters out there
Couldn't be more agree with you.
I love it
The queen we don’t deserve!
i personally love both versions :3
demi can sings poprock, teen pop, dance, electropop,R&B,rock and Jazz she sang a spanish version of Skyscraper and this is me, and wrote the majority of her songs in her new album Demi and in her first album along side the jonas brother. just wanted to correct you, both singers are amazing I love demi and kerli
finally someone who understands what i'm saying! Kerli is great, but Demi does this better...
Demi’s version is like day and Kerli’s is like the night version
She wasn't the only one that wrote it, Toby Gad helped too!
