I like the explanation of the missing piston seal better in this video than the one in the cylinder drift video, this makes more sense to me saying that the cylinder can fall back to the bottom of its stroke even if the outer seal or ram seal is still working properly and not leaking. The cylinder will essentially be a displacement cylinder and when it becomes full of oil pressure will equalise on both sides of the piston and the rod will extend.

What if there’s 2 check valves on that cylinder would all the weight bring down the cylinder ?
What if there is no piston seal and you direct flow to the rod port? Will the cylinder drift up or down?
It will drift down under external forces (when you push)
