This game's highlight to me is the tag system, that i had never seen before. The only similar system ever made before (that i remember) is the Kizuna Encounter tag system, but it has a area limitation. This game's system goes further by making the partner follow the active character at the background. So leaving Kizuna aside, i had only seen tag systems like Marvel and Tekken Tag.
Unfortunately the truth is that this game is bizarre, absurd and obscure to work well nowdays. Not everything that is put nowadays is guaranteed to have the sales of SF, TK, GG, etc. It's a big risk. And most importantly, Atlus is a big rpg company nowadays. Being versatile and getting into fgs made sense in the 90s when the fg genre was booming... but now Atlus makes blockbuster releases, GOTYs, etc. They have much higher ambitions and standards.
The opening was really copied by Capcom. It's too similar and nothing else looks like that. But since it's a big company and the biggest fg franchise, they always get away with everything.
