    the chevrolet nova "yenko" was a special edition of the nova and it was based off a guy named "Don" Frank Yenko. He would fit L-72, 427 cubic inch engines and modified suspensions(that engine is 7 litres!). you could either order high performance parts or have the whole car sent to Yenkos' mechanics to have it modified

  • @ItsTyrex1
    @ItsTyrex1 7 років тому +108

    Yenko was a racing driver that had a modification shop and chevy made a nova version after his name.
    The "Murdered Nova" is own by a guy from Oklahoma and staring in the TV program "Streets Outlaws" on Discovery channel

    The traction bars are meant to stop the rear axle twisting (or axle wrap) from the torque and thus gives more traction off the line.

      kiiinda yes, they do stop your leafs from binding and twisting but they help more directly with traction by using the twisting energy to plant the tyres , and cheap ones bend after a few good launches haha, they also hit a lil harder than caltracks when you adjust em right

    In the late 60's and early 70's there were some dealerships that would take some of Chevrolet's vehicles "Yenko, Baldwin Motion, Dick Harrell) like the Camaro, Corvair, Nova, and Chevelle (and in some rare cases, Corvettes) and hop them up with bigger engines. Don Yenko was one of the people in those dealerships and became famous for taking the 427 V8 from the Corvette and swapping it into the Camaro, and creating the Yenko Camaro, as well as the Yenko Deuce (Nova, like the one in this video), the Yenko Stinger (based on the Corvair) and the Yenko Chevelle, and these days, they can be hard to find because there aren't many around and a lot of regular '69 Camaros, '69 and '70 Novas, '69 Chevelles and '64-'66 Corvairs have been turned into Yenko clones, and finding out if a car is legitimate or just a clone means looking up the VIN and the engine and the car's history. Also, the car in 2 Fast 2 Furious was a 1969 Yenko Camaro, not a Nova. They do look similar, though.

    Muscle cars hold a special place in my heart. They're loud, they're proud, they were in movies, they were on race tracks, they were status symbols, and they're still eye candy. Sure, they may not be safe to drive by modern standards, but if I want to die in a car accident, I may as well ride the Highway to Hell for eternity in something fun.
    Get Saxon on the radio, burn aviation fuel with your foot to the floor, and take that son of a bitch way past 140MPH. Yes, I realize that I'm unstable.

      Mr.Bootleg I have a grand prix and while it may only have a 305 I couldn't agree more. Why spend your time and money buying boring cars? Get yourself something nice and have some fun, don't buy the best fuel economy econobox that will be dreary to drive. And this doesn't just apply to muscle cars, even just your older bmws, nissans, toyotas, ect. can all be great cars to buy over the overpriced nowadays boring fwd sedans that can buy you a rebuilt muscle car or a nissan gtr.

      Now it's not the muscle car you'd think of but 4 door 67 belvedere II. Passed down to me from my grandfather. Currently being semi restored. It's probably gonna get some matte black primer and that's it. I actually want to drive it. 238,000 miles stock motor and trans. It needs an engine rebuild and trans rebuild along with front disc conversion from a later e body chassis and some power brakes. Gonna pull the 318 and just freshen it up and wrap it in plastic and throw a 250 dollar junkyard 360 in it with a quick and dirty rebuild and a cam. It's got a factory 8 3/4 limited slip in it because northern car. It needs some tlc but hey I have nothing but time.

    "Torque Multiplier" will make for less control, easier burnouts, quicker turns. A supercharger w/MPFI is faster than a turbo(s) or carburetor(s) off the line, and is instant power- but an SC takes HP to operate, whereas a turbo needs to spool up to work (lag) but then is basically free to run.

    the traction bars serve a real purpose. it prevents axle wrap (any horsepower really, leaf springs will bend without the traction bars) when taking off from a dead stop. mainly used for street cars or drag cars. they have bump stops that come in contact with the leaf spring, like a limit strap for off roading or any suspension bump stop. it gives you the most traction to the ground, aside from better compound tires, 3-link or 4-link set up or gear ratio.

  • @ImWillsZX

    The Yenko was a limited special order edition from factory, the camaro had the option as well. Basically a factory track package

    • @ImWillsZX
      @ImWillsZX 7 років тому +2

      The traction bars were used on leaf spring cars, after too much tourque the springs would wrap around the axle and cause the car to "hop" loosing grip and speed. The black roof is actually vinyl and came stock on certain models

    You were so right about the Nova. I have had mine for a year and it is the clunkiest, heaviest, most wild car I've had. You mentioned not knowing a ton about them, well a little info for ya: most Novas had a 5.7Liter V8 or, 350 cubic inch motor, usually producing a fair 175-200hp to the wheel. the lack of power was thought to be due to the Novas weight, generally the hatch backs weighed 7,500lbs, coupes were a little lighter I beleive. And yes, they are bricks to drive. the steering is like trying to guide a fat man through an unlubed mine shaft made by elves. All in all, the Nova is so underrated as it was a family car, as well as a car you can floor and get an easy 120mph going. loved the video brother, definatley gaining a sub!

    Lex - first off, Yenko is actually a Chevy dealership from Pennsylvania, USA. That dealership offered some custom high spec'ed Chevy's from the mid 60's to the early 70's and then again made a speciel Camaro in '81. For 1969 Yenko made a custom version of the Nova as in the video but also made Chevelle's and Camaro's, this leads me to the second thing I want to mention, the car from 2 fast 2 furious is a 1969 Yenko Camaro and it's the blue one of the two muscle cars :-P the orange one is a 1970 Dodge Challenger ;-)

  • @novaadventure972

    Don Yenko Chevrolet was a Chevrolet dealership in Canonsburg Pennsylvania, best known for modifying factory muscle cars, like the Camaro and Novas in the late 1960s. Very rare and hard to find a real documented Yenko these days. The few that pop up for sale are very pricey.

  • @novaman3509

    The Yenko/SC were heavily modified cars, by a man called Don Yenko, who ran a Chevrolet dealership called Yenko Chevrolet. Yenko being the name of the dealership owner, SC meaning Super Car.
    The Yenko/SC cars came with 350ci and 396ci V8's that were modified by Mr. Don Yenko, then sold off the showroom floor.

    Traction bars or "Slapper Bars" Eliminate Axle Wrap. The torque from the rear axle can twist the leaf spring into an 'S' shape causing wheel hop. Slapper bars essentially limit how far the axle can move causing the wheels to dig in. Pretty essential in Drag racing

    The Yenko striping is something found on some real
    Chevrolet cars. They where all ultra high performance versions of cars like the Camaro, Chevelle, and the Nova. They all came out of one dealership owned by a guy named Yenko that was really into drag racing and because of this are super low in numbers and quite collectible.

    the traction bars, they are also called leaf spring I think, or anti-sway bars to reduce the chance of spinning out. or in other words, just more stability

    • @shredBucketheadshred
      @shredBucketheadshred 6 років тому

      no, a traction bar aka slapper bar connects to a leaf spring to help plant the rear tyres and prevent the leaf from wrapping up in an s shape

    Nah the Yenko was named after Don Yenko who was a race car driver during the 60s. The Yenko Camaro was basically a hot rodded version of the Camaro built to compete in drag racing but was eventually extended to other cars like the nova. Basically Don was to Chevy what Shelby was to Ford
