Nice! A useful tip to speed things up - In your acquisition software set the file naming scheme to use the Winjupos format, then when you create a stack keep the naming (if you're using R,G and B filters name G if you take that in the middle). When you load the stack into Winjupos it will recognise the data in the file name so you don't need to enter time and date etc...
Add that thumbnail to the ever growing list of thumbnails I'll never unsee. Another great video from UA-cam sensation and best southern-hemisphere-astrophotographer, thanks Cory.
Thanks again for a great Video . I really like the Graphics on the Topics Intros . I had a "Light Bulb Moment" at 4:20 when you explained very clearly what WinJupos is actually doing . Nice . Don't see anyone else noticing at 6:34 the Image Info entry as "World Famous Astronomer" but I thought that was clever . Cheers for talking "to" us and not down to us . Keep it going .
Useful software. Look forward to seeing your future results, Dylan. You deal with sea air, I'm dealing with Colorado snow at the moment. Yeah, I said snow ... in the summer! BTW, I'm still a kid at heart.
Thanks for Videos Dillion! I just downloaded winjupos yesterday. Its going to be a while before I become familiar with it. Big learning curve. With this one.
I have been subscribed since I was 12. Sorry about that man but you are more a comedian than a role model for us dorks. That is because all the other comedians just cannot relate 😂
Great, now I really need to invest in a scope for planetary imaging. Another item added to the list. By the way... 2:03 ... possibly the creepiest thing I've seen in an astrophotography video! Keep it up Dylan.
Yet again a video sharing tonnes of knowledge. interesting how this app can do so much. On the other hand, what do you eat to keep your brain so knowledgeable every single time?
It sucks that my neighbor's house and trees seem to block all the planet views from my backyard. Hopefully the move to college in a year or so will provide some improved sight lines. Even if it means taking on some extra light pollution. Trevor seems to love the results from the L-eXtreme filter almost as much as he does Ashley, so there's still hope in that department.
As per other comments, you need to set your acquisition software to WinJupos naming convention. Then the file name auto fills the data. You also need to set your coordinates of your location
It’s been a couple years since I did planetary imaging, I’ll try this on Mars with the C8 that has been idle for even longer than that. Thank you for the quick and easy tip!. BTW: Where do you find the patience to tear down, build the gear, balance, etc. over and over?
I haven't read all comments, so someone might have already told you... to avoid artifacts on the edge of the planet, just reduce de "LD value" to something like 0.65. You can either do it on the "Adj" tab, so it applies to all frames as you work with them, or in the de-rotate tool individually changing their values.
Hey Dylan, I understand making sure the back focus is right for most imaging applications but I don't bother for planetary as I think when I'm imaging on such a small area of the sensor, flat field is less critical, but now I'm having doubts. Is there a good reason to get the back focus just right for planetary?
I have never had issues focusing on planets with any imaging train. I’m using a SCT crayford focuser, 2x Powermate, filter wheel, and camera currently. Have also had success in the past with ADC/color cam as well as leaving the diagonal on. Not an issue for planets.
I'm having an issue trying to de-rotate a set of images. I've followed this procedure, but the final output image is coming out cropped in a lot. So much that jupiter doesn't even fit in the frame. In the original images, jupiter takes up less than 25% of the frame. Why would this be happening and how can i fix it?
A question - my Jupiter pic from the a week or two ago includes three moons. The moons are a bit blurred because of the amount they moved during the video I took. Can derotation fix this?
Dylan O'Donnell thanks. I have split my original video (six minutes) into 30 second bits. I plane to stack each one then crop every thing but the moons. Then I’ll stack these and see how it goes. Cheers
I'm 16 but don't really care, I love your channel, and your love for astronomy, and I know when to ignore shit you say because I've lived in australia and grown up near people who say wacky stuff. I don't put you on such a high horse but you seem like a nice and free soul. But on Jupiter, I wish I took such good images of jupiter, it's always too bright, IDK what type of filter will help, I have a pretty fast telescope, f/5. Maybe an ND filter.

You ARE a great role model! Trust me! You are actually one of the people who keep me going in the hard hard world of astrophotography. Im 12 so you can probably imagine how difficult it is for me!
Hey Dylan. Could you please make a video about your astronomy degree. Where you did it from; how much maths (mathematics) was involved; how much money did you you spend; who would you recommend it to; was it worth the hassle; and some major things you learned from it. Love from India ❤️ And also, were all the letters in the textbooks upside down (get it?)😂
How ironic this video should show up, it was only yesterday I tried WinJupos for the first time myself (not that I was expecting much with the shoddy data I was using 😆) ...the one part I did get hung up for a while on was the 'T' in the timestamp hh:mm:T, all I seemed to uncover from Google was that it was maybe a zone designator? But couldnt for the life of me find out what I should input here...I left it at 0 🤷🏻♂️ .... I've checked the lil box in my capture software to save winjupos compatible file names for my next session so hopefully this'll make the process a bit smoother 😁 Still curious what that T should be though 🤔 Love your work and another very helpful video, thanks! 😎👌🏻
This is really a neat concept- I don't think I've been able to get good enough data to make a difference here but I'll play with it. I'm hoping for a great Mars pic here in the coming weeks! Thanks, Dylan.
Nice one Dylan, have been playing around with Winjupos for a few weeks now..(esp because of Mars like you said :D) it seems to really improve the output.
Very cool vid, and I liked how you answered my Mars question without even being asked. One question that I probably missed but am too lazy to watch the vid again, did you stack your Jupiter data from avi, or did you just take individual tif. photos of Jupiter? Asking for a "friend" because she recently took a bunch of tiffs of Mars and can`t figure out what to do with them.
Does the sea air really effect images that much? Christopher Go's guide actually recommends being close to the sea (although it doesn't say why). Given your location the Jet Stream is probably a big issue as well (I know its a right pain here in New Zealand)

hey ive been trying to take good photos of the planets through my celestron powerseeker 127eq through my phone using nightcap app on the app store and when i turn down the exposure and iso i cant see the bands why is that? is it because im not zoomed in enough cause im just using 12mm for my videos.
