Most investors will always tell you that there's no better time to invest in the financial market than now. I've been into trading for quite a while now, and I must say it really goes with loss without the right approach and strategy. I have gotten to the point where I understand that strategy is a key element of a long term successful trading. I think that this year has changed a lot of people’s outlooks on spending. Having so much uncertainty has made many of the people I know much more thrifty and creative with their finances. Thanks for sharing your story because a lot of us need some inspiration to continue into 2021 and beyond
I did this for about three years. And sadly spent crazy for the next two because I felt so restricted. It’s a great idea but next year I’ll give myself some small rewards in between. It’s fun to assess your life and see how you can grow and improve. Happy New Year!
Having a little budget to keep you sane and enjoying life is important imo. Doesn't have to be big. But even a guilt-free $20 allowance can go a long way (a drink to celebrate something, an extra coffee when you're feeling low this month, a book to enrich your hobbies). At the end of the year, you're out $240. But assuming you're not living pay check to pay check... what it means in the grand scheme of things is that you'll take 13 months instead of 12 months to hit your saving goals. Yea it adds up over the years, but there's a balance between total restriction and adding a couple of months to reach a goal in favour of some comfort.

Whoa! This video is perfect timing and I agreed with mostly everything. I tried a "No Buy" Year in 2019 but I gave up in July. I attempted a "Low Buy" Year this year but I still managed to go over budget most months. I'm like her, hardcore or nothing. I am again going to attempt a "No Buy" Year in 2021 in order to reach my debt-payoff goal of $26,000. :)

Thiz is so inspiring. Thank God i found your story and video. Thank you. I owe you my life... I want to try this.. I hope.. I hope... I will succeed too
For some reason, I'm the opposite. I literally was carrying all of my life savings in my savings account; roughly $300k. 3 months ago I started investing but most of the money is still in my savings account.
I wish I could get a coffee every day with my friends. But they’re all over the world now... anyway to save money we used to invite each other to our houses.
in 2021 im trying to stop shopping clothes. I can only shop clothes/accessories second hand but I can buy other things. I feel like this will help a lot as a lot of my money goes to impulse buying a shirt online that I could have found for cheaper second hand.
the best thing anyone should do is tracking your spending with an app, track everything larger than $5. once you fully understand your income and spending, your behaviour will change!
If there is one personal benefit to the pandemic and social distancing, it would be that I stopped frivolous shopping. I funneled the cash that I'd normally spend on incidentals into my savings account. The experience has been eye-opening.
I did something similar, but not that extreme. I went a whole year without purchasing clothes. It was pretty easy since all I wear is sweat pants now. Haha
No books and no tickets for theatre etc. though? 😱 I would feel like I'm neglecting myself in this area and I'm definitely on strict budget there, I use library most of the time (except for now since everything is closed because of covid) and I buy most books from antiquarian bookshops anyway... In my field of study this would be probably impossible. Interesting idea nonetheless, glad it worked for you.
No, what I was thinking was; how does someone that make less than $13,000 a year have enough for a 6 months emergency fund, pay their students loans AND have enough to save for a down payment on an appartment? I've never been the best at math but that is definitely not adding up.
You have a masters degree and earn that little? Damn...that is harsh! For myself: Yeah, I should buy less stuff, but on the other hand I am already a comparatively bad consumer, I seldom (once a month, less now with the pandemic!) eat out, I don't buy many (only when traveling, which isn't that often!) nick-nacks, I don't buy into trends or fashion (couldn't care less about fashion!) and I only have one half way expensive hobby: PC-Gaming and I build my PCs myself, so I create systems that last for years :)
I like many people have adjusted my spending and my savings but I wonder what all this preaching about how the world should kill consumerism - especially on frivolous things like eating well coked meals by amazing chefs, going to the theatre, buying art, etc., - as so many of these types of videos are doing will do to the creative economy. The arts should not be on UA-cam and digital platforms alone. We still need the classics in our culture and lives. Even at our poorest during my childhood, my mother would scrounge up enough money to put in the hat passed during a free Shakespeare in the Park event because it was the only way we could afford to see the arts. Then when we could afford it we paid full, price to things because artists deserve salaries, too. I understand having savings goals, and paying off debt, and not burdening yourself with excess stuff, but why are so many people proud of what seems like eliminating museums, theatre, amazing food, and other things from their lives because it’s evil capitalist frivolity? Instead of appreciating others creative work?
I stopped shopping for a year- so does that mean by title alone, I don't buy food/drinks/clothes/socks/tampons/ dog food for an entire year? I need the money up front to stock up all this so I don't shop for a whole year?
“I quit shopping for an entire year...but I still bought make up, sun cream, one coffee a week and one dinner out a month. And I still bought Xmas presents and gifts”. 👎🏻👎🏻 Rename your video. 🙄🤨😒

So true. I've tried a few of them and found it expensive and not worth it. Especially if you dont have a very exotic taste. Much easier to just batch cook, buy in bulk, and meal prep.
For me, a meal kid saves me money. I struggle with meal planning and having it all in one spot in the fridge ready to cook makes it harder to justify getting takeout. It also means I don't go to the grocery store and impulse buy things I don't need. *shrug* to each their own, I say.
Okay, an issue is a consumerist society that tells us we need to buy more to feel better. But the larger issue is a capitalistic society where a person consistently makes less than 13k a year, is in debt, and has to stop all discretionary spending just to have savings. We shouldn't fool ourselves into deprivation, we should demand higher wages.
she lives in the UK, it was translated to $ for the US audience, however, her earnings are quite low for EU standards (no offence C.) does have several vids on this topic, what has helped her (like spliting the housing costs with her partner etc.). Thanks for extending this video by thinking we thought she starved to death and went without soap. Duh she only gave up frivolous spending.
When you're already doing this, and still don't have savings... 😭
How do you have a masters degree and make 21,000 a year?
Because a master in English Lit & Clasics isn't useful to anyone XD

the best thing anyone should do is tracking your spending with an app, track everything larger than $5. once you fully understand your income and spending, your behaviour will change!

If there is one personal benefit to the pandemic and social distancing, it would be that I stopped frivolous shopping. I funneled the cash that I'd normally spend on incidentals into my savings account. The experience has been eye-opening.
Great essay!
I like the cold turkey idea
I did something similar, but not that extreme. I went a whole year without purchasing clothes. It was pretty easy since all I wear is sweat pants now. Haha
So really not “no buy” just extremely low buying. This was interesting. I might try a no buy month.

How come a person with a master degree only earns $21,130/yr?
I wish I'll be able to spend more money on things that I don't need. I'm too poor to spend it without thinking.

No, what I was thinking was; how does someone that make less than $13,000 a year have enough for a 6 months emergency fund, pay their students loans AND have enough to save for a down payment on an appartment? I've never been the best at math but that is definitely not adding up.
She was probably living at home.

Makes no sense to buy unnecessary stuff, especially if you have a debt, this should be a no-brainer.
Cinzia!!
Where did the bot voice come from in the beginning? I miss Chelsea...:(
such a cool idea!
Yes !!!!
I’m vegan, too! I need to try this challenge!

Great idea….not sure I am disciplined enough though..lol
I’m sorry but all i got from this is that you have a masters degree and are still working min wage retail.
low buy isnt explained well here
This is pretty much how I live my life normally lol
Omg yess 👏🏻👏🏻
Is anyone else surprised that someone with a masters is making less than 30k a year?
Lol I need to do the same 😩

I'm just wondering if men don't have these problems and are they natural no-buyers? No men youtubers seem to be talking about this topic.
I stopped shopping for a year- so does that mean by title alone, I don't buy food/drinks/clothes/socks/tampons/ dog food for an entire year? I need the money up front to stock up all this so I don't shop for a whole year?
Lol kinda melodramatic

I’ve been doing low buy for a few years now, and did a no buy for about 6 months to kick start paying off my debt and addressing my shopping addiction. If anyone’s interested in this challenge, my biggest advice is to make sure you stay kind to yourself in this commitment. It’s very easy to feel like a “failure” if something happens outside the rules along the way. You got This! 🥰

Most investors will always tell you that there's no better time to invest in the financial market than now. I've been into trading for quite a while now, and I must say it really goes with loss without the right approach and strategy. I have gotten to the point where I understand that strategy is a key element of a long term successful trading. You can keep making wins at the beginning of a period and later you start recording losses toward the end of the trading period or even halfway. This results from little or no attention to the need for sustenance and consistency with the prevailing market structure. I've earned impressive profits so far this month trading with Dr Huffmantradingservices strategies and working with he's trading signals and I do that through he's registered trading investment company. You may never find it easy trading on your own. If you are tired of losing so much money, I recommend her. he's a really good trader.: @ *+1..2..0..9..8..1..0..6..8..0..8*

That thing when the video preaches skipping exactly the kind of product that is sponsored. Blue Apron is a huge $$ suck 🤷♂️
Right?!
Seriously. Watch some free UA-cam tutorials on how to cook and figure it out from there. Meal delivery services are such a waste of money
So true. I've tried a few of them and found it expensive and not worth it. Especially if you dont have a very exotic taste.
Much easier to just batch cook, buy in bulk, and meal prep.
Came here to say this
For me, a meal kid saves me money. I struggle with meal planning and having it all in one spot in the fridge ready to cook makes it harder to justify getting takeout. It also means I don't go to the grocery store and impulse buy things I don't need. *shrug* to each their own, I say.
A no-spend year allowed me to save up enough to buy a car in cash 🥂
This is exactly what I need to for 2021. Did a lot of meaningless clothing shopping in 2020 :(
Okay, an issue is a consumerist society that tells us we need to buy more to feel better. But the larger issue is a capitalistic society where a person consistently makes less than 13k a year, is in debt, and has to stop all discretionary spending just to have savings. We shouldn't fool ourselves into deprivation, we should demand higher wages.
"I earned 13000 a year" girl how were you even alive?!
I know right, the figures just don't add up. Rent alone is AT LEAST $10,000 a year.
she lives in the UK, it was translated to $ for the US audience, however, her earnings are quite low for EU standards (no offence C.) does have several vids on this topic, what has helped her (like spliting the housing costs with her partner etc.). Therefore it is even more amazing and very inspirational how she is able to make it work.
@@alexwilder8315 Maybe she was living at home without rent.
@@kt334 rendering this video completely irrelevant to the majority of us, in my opinion
I think that's pretty much minimum wage in the UK. Although the video uses dollars, it's actually in £.
