WHAT SHOW SHOULD I DO NEXT?? Be sure to comment what yall wanna see, and like those you agree with!! We still have Steven Universe Future so we aint done with #SUS yet!!!
In regards to Rose/Pink, an important detail is that we basically see her character development in reverse, we see the end of her journey early on, before slowly uncovering everything that formed her into what she was.
She never got fully redeemed though. Yes, she developed as a character whenever she became rose quartz but she never fully righted her wrongs. She has lied to Spinel, the Crystal Gems and all of homeworld and never apologized. She also started a war and corrupted countless gems based on her misguided attachment to humans. From our perspective as humans she is redeemed but if I was a gem she definitely is not, far from it.
A fun fact about the movie is that Steven's voice is actually his VA, Zach Callison's real voice. & at the time of the film's release, he was 21 years old. Also, another fun fact about Zach Callison is that since the very first SU episode, he was only 16. Pretty cool, right?
Also, fun fact about Spinel is that she's inspired by very old cartoons from the 1930s & 1940s, kinda similar to the ones from Fleischer Studios or the Cuphead game.
You know, if you remember how much Pearl struggled about telling Steven that Pink was Rose because she ordered her to not speak about it, since Diamond's orders are absolute, you can realise how much more f-ed up it is that Pink 'ordered' Spinel to stay or wait in that spot only because she had some other better entertainment. Only when she heard that Pink didn't exist anymore she was able to leave the place, but if for any reason the communicator didn't work or anything, she maybe could be still waiting for Pink, as if 6 thousand years weren't enough 😭 Poor thing indeed.
I think that's a thing that's only for Pearls since they're quite literally programmed to be servants, Pink Diamond just framed it to Spinel like a Game since Spinel is all about games it's just a really long messed up twisted version of "The Quiet Game" people use sometimes...but it's also the "Stand Very Still" game
@@Gamebuilder2000 but didn’t sapphire say when they found out about rose being PD. That rose toke their hands and told them not to question their self? And they didn’t? I think the diamonds orders works on every gem. Sorry for the bad English it’s not my first language.
I don't think Pink thought she'll wait so long since Spinel has such a low attention span and Pink underestimated how much people care about her. I think she thought Spinel would take a hint and find someone else to play with.
Another fun fact, when Rebecca Sugar made Steven Universe, her favorite band was this male and female duet "The Both". She was really proud to get the female member to play Opal (which is why she's quiet after her debut episode- too expensive). And the male member is voicing Steg, so she basically got to write a song for her favorite band.
dark fact: Rebecca explained why Spinel's gem just flip, was because she felt so many emotions in the moment she realized the truth, almost being on the verge of a "suicide" of her light form
Also, she had an experience when she was younger where she left a rabbit toy outside and when she found it a long time after, he was upside down and all faded from the sun and it was her first existential crisis that something changed without her. It's also what the song "Everything Stays" in Adventure Time is about.
Well, your on to something, but spinel did poof. It was confirmed by Rebecca. They said that when a gem feels strong emotion, they can poof. This was also proven by the episode "Back to the moon". When the rubies meet "Jasper", Eyeball said "When I found out this mission was about finding you, I nearly dissipated my form!" since she was extremely happy at the time.
people say "why didn't pearl recognize steven as the one she should serve but spinel did?" because let's remember that pearls are the lowest part of gem society, to the point that in the zoo episode Agatha answered Steven's questions (an inferior human) and ignored Pearl. also when a ruby says that maybe for capture Steven they will give her a Pearl so when a pearl is born it recognizes the first person it sees as hers master instead Spinel was created specifically for pink, she recognizes Steven's gem as the gem that must serve and be the best friend

The 2010-2013 Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated series would be a great next series; 52 episodes with a tight storyline, character development, and monster of the week episodes just like Steven Universe had and this way the alliteration of "S" could stay with Scooby-Doo Sundays!
And now the fandom's favorite meme: montage of sweet, happy moments from the series ending with "Meanwhile, Spinel is playing the stand-still game." The Diamonds have kind of a low-key 1930s aesthetic going, it's clearest with White. Which is also the time period of Spinel's cartoony animation style.
This or Amphibia would be really good to see. Maybe she could do Amphibia first and then Owl House, because the owl house is going on hiatus again soon, and Amphibia just ended like yesterday.
What I really love about the resolution they decided to go with is that, in the end, the diamonds were like a family who lost a kid and were longing for a child in their lives, and Spinel was like an abandoned orphan, who was craving for a family, so it was really resolved in a perfect way.
Rebecca Sugar was inspired to create Spinel AND write one of the prettiest songs in Adventure Time (Everything Stays) following the same incident - she found a favorite childhood toy that had been left forgotten in her backyard and faded on the side that was facing the sun and elements and I guess had a WHOLE LOT of feelings about it. "Lets go in the garden / you'll find something waiting / right there where you left it / lying upside down"
I personally love, SU Future, I think it is such a good coming of age show and it really touched me as I was the same age as Steven was in the show when it was premiering. I love child Steven too but older Steven really holds a place in my heart.
i HIGHLY recommend Amphibia, as something to fill the SU void. it's hilarious, well-written, and EXTREMELY emotional. the characters are amazing and the overarching plot of the series is so great. also, the final episode just aired yesterday. oh and also, some of the cast/staff of SU worked on this show too, but i won't spoil their involvement. i think you would love it!
4:24 that's what they call a "leitmotif", often used to symbolize connections through music. I just thought you would enjoy the information for future uses
After you’re done this show, your next show should be Amphibia. It’s another animated show that I think you might like, and it just ended recently. It would be a bit shorter as well, as there are only 3 seasons. If you like this show, you would love Amphibia.
Its a little older, but Avatar is a must watch and one of the greatest cartoons and overall shows of all time! I would love to see you watch it, theres so much to enjoy, super emotional and has some great messaging and references to asian culture!
The new She-Ra is what I watched directly after Steven Universe. It's different but definitely has some SU influences and is just really fun. Also re: setting other planets free. Apparently Earth was the first time the diamonds had encountered sentient life - like non-animal life. Which makes things simpler. My interpretation is that Pink had only the smallest understanding of empathy. She didn't really consider that Spinel would interpret her orders literally, or what standing still for thousands of years would do to her. For a long time, argueably even until the end when she had Steven, she didn't really have a lot of insight into how her actions affected others. Every one of her big decisions were somewhat hasty and neglected to take others feelings into account: Starting the rebellion without considering other Gems, faking her shattering and not realising what rage and grief would do to the Diamonds, having Steven and leaving Pearl alone... She tried, but empathy didn't come naturally to her. Being a good person took work and she made mistakes up until the end.
Nah cus that “first time encountering life” things just a lie cuz wasn’t there that whole planet that stevonnie got stuck on during the Lars mission that had a ton of weird life on it
Spinel is definitely one of the most tragic villains of all time she was just doing what she was made too do and pink diamond had the audacity to be frustrated with her when she finally got her colony when spinel was just doing what she was made too do pinks the worst you can deny it 💎👛🔪🗡🪓💣🧨
random data, I think that spinel canonically died of sadness when she found out that pink abandoned her, that's why she acquired her new look and her gem changed "form", just like what happened when pink was puffed by pearl, thanks to pink being puffed could change his form permanently, just like what happened to spinel
When I REwatched the movie the first time, I noticed the glitchy part of Steven’s message to the universe was being shown in Spinel’s garden, those were her shoes. 2:44 For others who never noticed
Amphibia is my next top recommended show as it just had it's finale and is a masterpiece, it even has a Rebecca Sugar song. But Gravity Falls, The Owl House, Infinity Train or OK K.O would also have similar vibes and messages to Steven Universe and I would love to see your reaction to them.
this is just banger after banger. i personally love the Diamonds song, both at the beginning and at the end with Spinel, Independent Together with the ultimate fusion, and Spinel's songs are all fire
Emotional neglect like what Spinel suffered from in her time standing in one place, waiting for a person she looked up to to return, sure can lead to issues like suicidal depression, self worth issues and what not.
I remember that Zach Callison was going through A Lot round that time especially, and Future kinda helped him process much of that stuff, especially from losing his adolescence to being a child actor. So yeah it's got fresh emotions and a new feel which is a lot more.... reflective than the OG series? But yeah I love it, despite some flaws... but everything has flaws so eh.
I'd love it if you'd do another cartoon. Here's some I think you might like + non spoilers reasons. 1) Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts -out of most cartoons it does sorta remind me of Steven universe and has amazing overarching plots and songs 2)Amphibia-it also has great lore and characters + it has the same sorta formula as Steven Universe as in the shorter episodes thing 3) Owl House- Magic, serious issues, amazing plot with filler eps here and there (great LGBTQ rep as well) 4) Gravity Falls- mystery, comedy, adventure. Really the perfect cartoon for family's and the mix of everything by works really well. 5) Centaurworld- a personal favourite of mine. It's very much a kids show in the ridiculous of some of the stuff but it's actually really dark if you're not an oblivious kid. It adresses some serious issues (and no one ever reacts to it, but it's truly really good at heart)
Spinel is a representation of ghosting relationships. They r when either ur loved ones or ur friends all of a sudden cut all ties with that person without telling them why. And u never speak to them again. These kind of ppl have it really bad look up about this serious issue if u want to learn more details about it
You should watch Bojack Horseman next. It gets pretty dark at times, but it balanced that out with some smart dry humour and some really charismatic characters. Additionally, the Legend of Vox Machina is much more on the humourous side, with some equally charismatic protagonists and some stunning animation.
Yes! The movie is here! And yes… we are all EMOTIONAL DAMAGE! I was so ready for Krysta to see Steven all grown up and the battle this movie puts our 16 year old boy through! Also, yeah, Spinel deserved better. But then again, Pink Diamond wasn’t perfect. She was still rude for doing that Oh… you thought I forgot? Nope. It’s Sunday… so say it with me now… “It’s… Steven Universe Sunday! Let’s send the weekend away! And if you think we can’t, we’ll always find a way… it’s for the people of UA-cam… believe in… Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Peridot, Lapis, Krysta, ‘AND STEVEN’… in the future and it’s bright!” See y’all next Sunday… for the future!
Soooo happy we’ve made it to the movie! I wanted to also recommend Gravity Falls as another possible reaction series. It is only two seasons, but sooo good. I am sure a lot of us that watch Steven Universe also know Gravity Falls. Great video!
If you're happy to expand your reach beyond children's animation, I'd strongly recommend Tuca and Bertie. It's an adult cartoon but it has the energy of shows like Steven Universe and Adventure Time, and while it's somewhat absurdist and silly, it deals with mature themes in a very sensitive and empathetic way. Alternatively (or as well), there's Hilda, which is the most charming cartoon I think I've ever seen. Just delightful and whimsical.
I loved these and can’t wait for you to see SU future but some shows that can be next are Gravity falls, regular show, adventure time, star vs the forces of evil, the owl house, amphibia, and since you seen avatar then you could maybe watch legend of Korra
The owl house- it’s currently at the end of season 2 and the last season (season 3) isn’t out yet And also amphibia- it’s officially ended 3 seasons really great
Everyone is all "the diamonds repented too easy" as if they have any guilt for their billions of subjects beyond kind of misunderstanding someone who they still kind of think of as Pink.
Dude, PLEASE do 'Gravity Falls'. Since it ended, everyone's been sleeping on it, but take it from someone who actually didn't like it until he watched it... you NEED to watch it. It's hilarious and smart as hell.
We live in a golden age of Western animation! Some suggestions: Over the Garden Wall (maybe wait until Fall/Halloween for this one?) Gravity Falls -> Owl House -> Amphibia She-Ra -> Kiko and the Age of Wonderbeasts
a curiosity: for a gem change it's form permanently it's need to be poofed and Rebecca also confirmed that gems can poof themselves by extremely sadness like depression, so basically Spinel poofed by depression and came with her new form
Edit: Long comment While Spinel's story is sad, is definitely doesn't justify her actions here. She was literally gonna kill all organic life and attempted to shatter several gems in her anger. That being said, Pink leaving her there in the Garden wasn't necessarily malicious as much as it was misguided. Remember that Pink was treated like a nuisance to the other diamonds. She acted out for attention that she was always taught she deserved because of her status, yet from her point of view, her own family saw her as flawed and off color, two of the worst things a gem can be. On top of that, she had a fascination with organic life. As such, they treated her like crap on homeworld, which Spinel acknowledges. My point is that the diamonds gave Spinel to Pink to distract her. It's like giving a dog or a misbehaving child a piece of candy of a toy to keep them from embarrassing you further with their behavior. Problem is, it wasn't a cure for her unhappiness. Pink was unhappy with herself (which I think the song "Love like you" refers to), and the rigid caste system on homeworld as well as her family that made her feel worthless. As a result, Spinel, and by some extension even Pearl, were unintended victims in an abused and neglected younger sibling's quest to find what makes her happy. She matured along the way, but it really wasn't up until she met Greg that she realized that she'd grown as much as she possibly could, and that she envied the human ability to grow and change (something gems don't naturally do, and something Pink was often ridiculed for ex. "Well why don't you act like it, PINK!"- Yellow diamond). She decided her existence was worth giving up for a being that would possess the innate ability to grow and change, and this have a happier childhood then she did. All that to say this: Spinel was right to be angry, but her actions are kind of inexcusable, especially since Steven and the gems had to clean up the destruction.
Love this reaction and I love all the amazing songs in this one! Fun fact: The voice actor for Steven and Greg’s fusion had a music duo with the voice actress for Opal. Hence bringing both together for Independent Together. It’s painfully brief but their vocals in the back half of the song compliment each other so damn well!
Along with alot of other people in the comments, I would suggest watching either amphibia or the owl house next. Both Disney shows. They are both ABSOLUTELY great(: Also great reaction😊
She-Ra has pretty awful representation of LGBTQ community imo. Catra being an abuser until the very end left bad taste in my mouth. She should have been redeemed earlier for this relationship to work. SU, AT, the Owl house, were much better in that aspect. The story itself is pretty good though.
fun detail: when Garnet is re-fused, but still missing her memories, ALL of her statements take the form of a question, as a reference to her state of questioning her own existence as Ruby and Sapphire's fusion, how Rose referred to her as 'the answer' but she doesn't remember that, how she's still not complete cool touch
The worst thing Pink Diamond has ever done is abandon Spinel? How about playing both sides of a war without ever stopping either of her armies, causing Gems to murder others of their own people just because she wanted to appear loyal to her diamond family and defend earth at the same time? No joke, she is a terrible character, even as Rose. She never acknowledged the love Pearl had for her and by how Pearl talks about her, she more than likely thought nothing of immediately latching onto Greg and giving Pearl an apology that they could not be together. Bringing Steven into the world, no matter how good of a person he is (BTW, he is truly kind and considerate considering the circumstances he was born into), latched all her problems onto him. She didn't have to be around if the diamonds ever invaded again or if the other gems figured out she was Pink Diamond. All her problems could fall and Steven, which they did. Steven had to be the crutch to many characters' emotional baggage throughout the entire show. That's why I like Steven Universe Future for the Trauma it reveals that builds up within Steven, showing that the characters had to be there for him for once for him to be emotionally stable. If it truly was an intentional thing, I think Rose being Pink Diamond makes the story of Steven a great psychological exploration of a young hero forced into death-defying situations. If it was a last minute add in to stir up Drama from the crew, it is a truly atrocious thing to put your characters through. I both applaud and am perplexed by Revecca Sugar's intriguing story.
Amphibia is a must!! It’s very similar to SU , also has amazing songs/music , it also already finished a few days ago , so you don’t have to wait for more episodes to come out, you will love amphibia!
something that is often overlooked when it comes to Pink Diamond and Spinel, is that Pink diamond abandoned Spinel because she thought it was normal to do stuff like that. because Blue and yellow would lock her in the tower whenever she misbehaved or annoyed blue and yellow for who knows how long, it was damaging to her mental health too. so Pink Diamond thought that Making Spinel stay there because she was annoyed with her was normal/okay.

Definitely recommending Amphibia or The Owl House to watch next, both great shows with fab writing! If you like SU, you will love Amphibia.
“Are you mad because she (Rose/Pink) ditched you?” I mean, that’s a light way to put it.
The voice actor for Steg (Steven/Greg) is in a band with Opal's voice actress its called The Both.
"Are you made that she ditched you?" Well, impeccable guessing right there.
OTHER GREAT ANIMATED SHOWS YOU MUST WATCH ARE:
The Owl House
Amphibia
Gravity Falls
Infinity Train
Ducktales ( the new one )
She-ra ( the new one )
When I REwatched the movie the first time, I noticed the glitchy part of Steven’s message to the universe was being shown in Spinel’s garden, those were her shoes.
2:44
For others who never noticed
The crew explained that when Spinel got the news about Steven, she poofed by such stress and emotional trauma.
This whole movie was just about the Crystal Gems recovering from the massive L Spinel gave them in her song. Now that’s a villain song.
She-Ra Sundays would be awesome! That show is really good and I think you’d really enjoy it!
“I might have lost all my character development!” -Peridot breaking the fourth wall
I completely agree about Amphibia!
this is just banger after banger. i personally love the Diamonds song, both at the beginning and at the end with Spinel, Independent Together with the ultimate fusion, and Spinel's songs are all fire
Emotional neglect like what Spinel suffered from in her time standing in one place, waiting for a person she looked up to to return, sure can lead to issues like suicidal depression, self worth issues and what not.
Steven is actually really strong and powerful
I'm so glad you were finally able to make this far in the SU universe!!!
Amphibia? Maybe amphibia? The show just ended and I cried my eyes out MULTIPLE TIMES (if you know, you know)
I will say, Steven Universe Future actually is my favorite. I love what they do with it and I think there are some really important messages in there.
Krysta:"Are you mad because she DITCHED you?"
Me:Oh dear....
I'd love it if you'd do another cartoon. Here's some I think you might like + non spoilers reasons.
1) Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts -out of most cartoons it does sorta remind me of Steven universe and has amazing overarching plots and songs
2)Amphibia-it also has great lore and characters + it has the same sorta formula as Steven Universe as in the shorter episodes thing
3) Owl House- Magic, serious issues, amazing plot with filler eps here and there (great LGBTQ rep as well)
4) Gravity Falls- mystery, comedy, adventure.
Fun fact: Steven universe future is only 2 years ahead.
Steven was 14 in the regular show.
If you enjoyed Steven Universe…
.Star vs The Forces Of Evil
.The Owl House
.Amphibia
.Gravity Falls
.The Dragon Prince
Are all good shows to watch
Spinel is a representation of ghosting relationships. They r when either ur loved ones or ur friends all of a sudden cut all ties with that person without telling them why. And u never speak to them again. These kind of ppl have it really bad look up about this serious issue if u want to learn more details about it
You should watch Bojack Horseman next. It gets pretty dark at times, but it balanced that out with some smart dry humour and some really charismatic characters.
Additionally, the Legend of Vox Machina is much more on the humourous side, with some equally charismatic protagonists and some stunning animation.
I really recommend Star vs the Forces of Evil since it has a really great story, just like Steven universe.
"No Matter What" amd "Independent Together" are on my Spotify playlist actually, the songs on this movie rocks!
She was still rude for doing that
Oh… you thought I forgot? Nope. It’s Sunday… so say it with me now…
“It’s… Steven Universe Sunday! Let’s send the weekend away! And if you think we can’t, we’ll always find a way… it’s for the people of UA-cam… believe in… Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, Peridot, Lapis, Krysta, ‘AND STEVEN’… in the future and it’s bright!”
See y’all next Sunday… for the future!
The way she said replace Steven universe hurts my soul 😔
Soooo happy we’ve made it to the movie! I wanted to also recommend Gravity Falls as another possible reaction series. It is only two seasons, but sooo good. I am sure a lot of us that watch Steven Universe also know Gravity Falls. Great video!
You'd be jealous too if you were abandoned for 6000 years with no explanation.
!! Fun Fact !! did you know that mommy long legs from poppy playtime is voiced by the same person who voiced spinel (its very noticeable)
I loved these and can’t wait for you to see SU future but some shows that can be next are Gravity falls, regular show, adventure time, star vs the forces of evil, the owl house, amphibia, and since you seen avatar then you could maybe watch legend of Korra
The owl house and amphibia it's perfect
Spinels voice is so iconic for a antagonist. Shes so tooney
The owl house- it’s currently at the end of season 2 and the last season (season 3) isn’t out yet
And also amphibia- it’s officially ended 3 seasons really great
I just finished the movie and damn the backstory for Spinel and her ending made me cry, such an amazing character!
Poor Spinel 😥😔
Everyone is all "the diamonds repented too easy" as if they have any guilt for their billions of subjects beyond kind of misunderstanding someone who they still kind of think of as Pink.
When i first saw this i cried like 10 times lmao
Same
Not me JUST Noticing that he's wearing the same Jacket connie gave him in that one episode of Steven Universe
I definitely recommend Amphibia! It just finished and is just as fun and deep as Steven Universe at times! It's very cute and right up your alley!
Yessss
17:22 that would be Stegg Multiverse, he is the peak, the zenith all men must aspire to. He is perfection incarnate
Dude, PLEASE do 'Gravity Falls'. Since it ended, everyone's been sleeping on it, but take it from someone who actually didn't like it until he watched it... you NEED to watch it. It's hilarious and smart as hell.
It’s weird how he only went up 2 ages and just grow up like that.
0:57: Ooh! Gravity Falls!
We live in a golden age of Western animation! Some suggestions:
Over the Garden Wall (maybe wait until Fall/Halloween for this one?)
Gravity Falls -> Owl House -> Amphibia
She-Ra -> Kiko and the Age of Wonderbeasts
Star vs the forces of evil, it’s a great cartoon show to watch just like Steven universe.
but the ending was so bad tho
@@molly2076 but the series is good
Yea thats true the ending just never happened then👌
6:21 WOW, that guess.... are you a sapphire? You just predicted the future.
You should check out Amphibia or The Owl House, they're really cool and popular.
a curiosity: for a gem change it's form permanently it's need to be poofed and Rebecca also confirmed that gems can poof themselves by extremely sadness like depression, so basically Spinel poofed by depression and came with her new form
Edit: Long comment
While Spinel's story is sad, is definitely doesn't justify her actions here.
They are both ABSOLUTELY great(:
Also great reaction😊
I’ve never noticed garnet wearing stevens jacket when he fused
I’d love to see you watch She-Ra! In terms of representation and general vibe SU and She-Ra are kinda similar. And also it’s just very good :)))
She-Ra has pretty awful representation of LGBTQ community imo. Catra being an abuser until the very end left bad taste in my mouth. She should have been redeemed earlier for this relationship to work. SU, AT, the Owl house, were much better in that aspect. The story itself is pretty good though.
fun detail: when Garnet is re-fused, but still missing her memories, ALL of her statements take the form of a question, as a reference to her state of questioning her own existence as Ruby and Sapphire's fusion, how Rose referred to her as 'the answer' but she doesn't remember that, how she's still not complete
cool touch
You Should definitely check out The Owl House, its one of my fav cartoons :)
I love that this time with Garnet's first fusing, Sapphire saved Ruby instead of the other way around like before on homeworld.
"Pink, you f*cking *sshole."
She described SUF in 1 sentence.
17:49
The moment you are your mom, your dad and yourself at the same time.
The whole series is literally Steven atoning for his moms sins
I recommend you to watch Infinity Train. Pretty short but compelling story with awesome characters and mysterious world.
I screamed cause that wasn’t even the Steven universe movie poster
