Sorry to read about the bike being stolen. This video is really helpful though, because I've been wondering about maximum tyre width in combination with mud guards on the Speeder models and other brands. The Merida website specifies 37C max without guards, so it's nice to know I could go a bit higher (thinking of 35C Marathon/Plus). The info on the bar ends and the other add-ons is really useful as well, so thanks. As an aside, the 2020 Speeders have new geometry that's more in line with the competition and the 300 at €899 is definitely the most interesting model for me. The BMC Alpenchallenge 02 Two is a really good looking bike, but it's €200 more with an alu fork, so that's a bit of a hard sell.
Thanks! Yes, most info was unknown to me before the purchase, so I'm happy I could help. Maybe the Merida team appreciates my video too and give my a discount for my next bike 😊 And thanks for the info about next year's speeder. Sounds interesting, although I really liked the slightly upright geometry for the city. But I'll definitely test ride the new one when it's out.
my commuter is on 700 x 32c and the rides can get really harsh on rough roads at times so 38c *and* mudguards installed sounds like much more comfortable ride haha
@@therealchef Thank you very much for the quick reply. Your bike turned out very beautiful. I understood everything, I will order the same details. All the best to you, goodbye
Hi Jeff, nice video and thanks for the info. I have the Speeder 400 and am looking to switch to wider tires. I wonder what the max tire width would be without mudguards.. Do you think I could fit schwalbe energizer/marathon 40-622? or maybe even bigger? And do you know the sizing of the inner tube maybe? Trying to figure out if I need to replace the inner tubes aswell if I get bigger tires. Thanks in advance :)
Hi Koen, I can only guess that the 40 tiers will fit without mudguars. You'll have to try it out though. let us know here! No need to change inner tubes.
I can't really give you a qualified answer. I'm mostly riding it on flat roads. I used the first gear once in the woods and it worked fine, but I'd have to guess how steep it was. Maybe a 25-30% ascent.
I am considering buying this bike that is a 2018 with hydraulic disc brakes. The shop where I'm looking at is selling it for 620 Euros for the Merida Speeder 100. Is that a fair price?
I bought mine at bike-alm, a German online retailer, and found them to be the cheapest. But there are advantages of buying at a local shop (e.g. getting a service, getting advice on size and components, test riding it, supporting the local shops, etc.) its up to you :)
Have you got your bike back or its gone forever?. Whatever...sorry to hear that. Just wondering if you getting a new bike?. Just update of your new bike ok. Take care.
I never got my bike back unfortunately.. I just got a Silex 400 a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with it. The dropdown handle bar works very well. I just needed to get used to it. Again I think it's probably the best value for money you can get if you're interested in this kind of bike. But do insure it :)
Hi, tyres were great for most surfaces, also in rainy conditions (except off road). They're way more puncture resistant while not too heavy, so I'd recommend them.
top :) Ich habe mittlerweile den Sattel wieder auf Original umgerüstet. War dann doch bequemer. Seitenständer ist bestimmt irgendwie montierbar, eine Verschraubungsplatte gibt es aber nicht.
That's hard to say, I don't measure top speed. But I would guess ~50km/h. I'm actually considering putting a larger chainwheel on it (it's currently 44 teeth) because I'm mostly using the top five gears on straight roads.
The bicycle got stolen tonight (19./20. Sept.) in Berlin. If you happen to find it, please report to the police and message me here. Thank you!
Hahahaha))))
Sorry bro)
Did you find your bike?
I hope you got your bike back
Really sad to hear it.. hope you would get it back.
Thank you for going into details!
Gorgeous , tidy bike!
Sorry for loosing it☹️
Thanks for the information about tires!
Thank you for letting us see the bike in details.
Thanks for the video! Gonna get one myself. Tires and mudguards info is critical.
Nice bike and video... good review, thanks for sharing. Sorry to see it was stolen, hope you recovered it :(
I have to assume its gone forever... I'm riding a Silex 400 now that I've modified a little. Also a great ride

Thanks for the video! A very reasonable approach to the bike concept ;)
Very nice ride.
Also have one... the 400.

It is :)
Thank you!
Strange, but on my Merida Speeder 2021 there are no fender holes in the fork. Probably have to buy fender on straps.
Interesting. They may have tried to reduce complexity and cost for the new model
Where did you buy the mud guards?
very cool setup! how did you alter your handlebar length?
I just used a metal handsaw :)
Hello, what is your width of bluemels 35,42,45? And tires 38 mm.? You said all this in the video, but I don’t know English. Thanks you.
Hey! The tires are 28 x 1.50 (40-622), 700 x 38C and the Bluemels mudguards are 45mm.

What is the maximum tire width that can fit into this fork?40?
Sorry late reply. I assume a 40 fits. Have you tried by now?

Great vid and the great bike! I am also considering buying the 300. How does 1x11 do when riding uphill?

Just posted a new video on that :)
My Merida Speeder 200 also got stolen last year ... I guess that's the negative part about good bikes, they're targeted by thieves

Hey, I would probably go for the frame size XS or maximum S. But you should try and test ride it at your local dealer if possible
what size your inseam?
It's 78cm
Does the bike come with thru axles or are thoes QR?
