      xraritysparkles it is a volcano, your premonition is basically common sense. Volcanoes erupt and magma comes out. It is usually molten rocks, which means melted rock.

    • @recoveringsoul755

    • @ladykiri42
      @ladykiri42 6 років тому

      What year was the when you last checked and saw only 9 acres affected? It sounds like that goes back to the first of the current eruption about 25 years ago. Our volcanoes go into a semi-dormant period for awhile, then erupt again, then sleep again awhile.

      actually, lava comes out. Magma: hot fluid or semifluid material below or within the earth's crust from which lava and other igneous rock is formed by cooling.... Lava: hot molten or semifluid rock erupted from a volcano or fissure, or solid rock resulting from cooling of this. so thanks for trying to look smart.

      I'm just worried for the residents. I'm fully aware of what a volcano is and what it can do. I'm also aware that the residents knew where & what they are living on. It's still sad. I've never had an experience with a volcano, which is why I'm shocked at how fast it's progressing.

    The Hawaiian islands are some of the tallest mountains in the world. It is about 18,000 feet from the ocean surface to the bottom of the island / mountain/volcano. All the islands there are the tops of volcanoes coming from the ocean floor. It could calve off and go all the way to the ocean floor

    Is that solid rock or does it break up easily.

    • @nicotti
      @nicotti 6 років тому

      It's toughness after cooling depends on the chemical makeup of the lava and the amount of gas trapped within when it hardens (thus creating more air bubbles and being more like swiss cheese).

    • @brewsandbass5572
      @brewsandbass5572 6 років тому +1

      Ok tks. I was curious how they clean that up.

    • @nicotti
      @nicotti 6 років тому

      Generally they don't. If it's an important road they might break the lava up to put the road back, but otherwise it's just new ground. I'm not sure how the property law works there or if they can get insurance for property destruction by lava, but my guess is that those people still own their lots. If the area stays active for a long period of time the government probably would buy up all the land to keep people out or make it into a volcanic park. Kinda like people who live on flood plains and lose their homes to a flood.

    • @LardGreystoke
      @LardGreystoke 6 років тому

      This is even more inexorable than a flood plain. The island of Hawaii is building to the east and south and nothing will stop it. Sooner or later every manmade structure in that area will be engulfed.

      The Hawaiian islands are some of the tallest mountains in the world. It is about 18,00 feet from the ocean surface to the bottom of the island / mountain/volcano. All the islands there are the tops of volcanoes coming from the ocean floor. It could calve off and go all the way to the ocean floor

      Caribe Castaway If a big chunk of the island goes into the ocean, it can create massive tsunami that wipes out cities or states on the west coast of America from the water that is displaced, along with hitting coastal areas of Hawaiian Islands themselves. Last time this volcano had activity, it caused Fukushima 5-6 days later. Buckle up!

      To be fair, the geology of the region really only started being understood in the 1960s when tectonic theory was established. In hindsight any structure on the southeast side of Hawaii should be regarded as temporary.

      Have you ever been to the big island that is Hawai'i? This impacts one small corner - and this is no larger than a dozen other historical lava events. Look at the history of Hawai'ian Gardens and Kalapana - a subdivision and town lost under lava flows in the 80's and 90's. Lava has been erupting and flowing in this area non-stop since 1983 when Pu'u O'o first opened up.

    • @Nine-Signs
      @Nine-Signs 6 років тому +2

      Its a volcano, no one has a clue. Not one scientist on this earth can predict what will happen, nor when it will happen, they can only provide possibilities and likelihoods based on previous observations. In a few decades perhaps we will have satellites that can analyze sub surface magma flows but today, the entirety of science on this subject is blind as a bat as far as accurate predictions go.

    • @LardGreystoke
      @LardGreystoke 6 років тому

      Actually the USGS and any halfway competent geologist can predict that the volcano will continue to erupt for another few hundred thousand years. The details, from the volcano's point of view, are inconsequential.

      Dealing with Pele, you have to deal with what's so. Just human beings dealing with elemental forces of nature, unlike reality tv, dealing with things far away from their actual life, or according to a script. Just humans dealing with major natural forces. And Pele will do what Pele will do
