  • South Florida’s sawfish continue to die right before the very eyes of residents and visitors alike. On Tuesday, crowds gathered as a critically endangered smalltooth sawfish struggled in the shallows of Fort Zachary Taylor Beach in Key West.

What's so sad and depressing is that we've committed so many atrocities to the environment that the reasons can be many or a combination of factors. All other life forms are innocent victims of our greedy, reckless behavior. We just keep compounding our assaults, at some point it reaches a catastrophic level..we're quickly approaching that level and we will not be spared.

I’d imagine it’s like a person running to the ocean to avoid a chemical fire.

The state wish to restore the natural river flow from Florida great lakes on down to and thru the Everglades but they forget about all the toxins that's accumulated in the soil from farming for generations.. they also are not sighting that if these blooms affect large and small fish it's bound to affect humans as well.

I think they need to take a lot of the large fish and put them in an aquarium so they don't become extinct. They also need to take the babies and put them in the aquarium as well. My fiance thinks it's corexit in the water from the Gulf Oil Spill. That Halliburton, the company that poured it in the oil, that claimed that that's all they could use as a miracle cure for the oil spill. It has 1000 different poisins in it! They should look into this further. 🤔

Only thing is, that doesn't explain why it just started happening. Obviously it takes time to go through the food chain, and dangerous algae or other toxins are eaten by small fish, which get eaten by larger fish until sawfish at the top of the food chain get all the accumulated toxins. But why does it seem to be happening mostly to sawfish, and not as often to big sharks or tarpon? Why does it seem to be happening all of a sudden at the same time? I sure hope we figure this out.
