    The Quran is less of a "Book of God" and more a "Transcript of God via Muhammad". It's not chronologically arranged, it's arranged from longest to shortest so it could be memorized easier. You have to remember that Arab culture was a oral culture and that the Quran(means The Recitation) were passed on word of mouth until over 100 years later when it was finally compiled.

    Take away: He was already far from islam the day he was born, following local traditions rather than religion itself. Eventually he realizes these TRADITIONS are flawed and instead of researching about the religion he decides to give up, blaming islam as incompetent and illogical.
    The biggest reason for the downfall of Islam in eye of the public is because of the same reason mentioned above, people dont wanna go the hard way, which is reading about the religion, rather choose the easy way out, which is listening to their guardians and preachers. The problem is that EACH AND EVERY person will tell you something else. Thats why Quran was revealed, to have a standardized copy of the teaching.

    Do not make me laugh : in 1200 years, the Arabs who had a kind of rudimentary algebra, clear sky and an interest in astronomy NEVER DISCOVERED Newton's law, and not even Kepler's ones. All they did was to give NAMES to stars, not a very complicated operation. And what was left to discover since the Babylonian had discovered the equinoxes precession ?

    At (Surah 18:89-98) Alexander the Great was a devout Muslim and lived to a ripe old age. Historical records however show that Alexander the Great died young at 33 years of age (b. 356 B.C. - d. 323 B.C.), and believed he was divine, forcing others to recognize him as such. In India on the Hyphasis River (now Beas) Alexander erected twelve altars to twelve Olympian gods. The Quran shows errors in historical and religious fact.

    Stange : when Arabs are supposed to be in advance (which was the case before the Turks conquered them, nor Crusaders), their civilization is "superior" (which was true for a while). But when the islamic world is, like the Ottoman empire, scientifically and technically 60 years to 200 years (and which 200 years !) behind Europe, it has suddenly "no sense saying that a civilization is superior to another". How strange ! :-D

    • @Mulberry2000
      @Mulberry2000 29 днів тому

      Two reasons when Islam started it was very open to new ideas and peoples. That's is how the managed to assimilate different peoples into Islam. The Arabs at the time of Islam was very backward and had no clue in running empires. So they let the locals do the running and did not impose Islam on the population. If they did their rule would soon end. Some say they were brutal and some rulers were but they did not last long. Brutal rulers never do last, the romans were the exception but they offered caveats for local populations, if they accepted roman rule eventually they come roman citizens. Of course the elites in Rome did not want that as it meant a challenge to their power. The Arabs felt the same so they did not want people to convert, well not fast enough. So for 300 years the Islamic empire was a rough diamond, it has most of the world's Christian population, but not many Muslims. Of course over time as taxes grew people just converted to Islam to avoid them, or did it out of fear or conviction. Eventually the Muslims got so good at civilisation they felt they had learnt all that was and closed the door to more learning. The door to ijtihad was closed - the door to reasoning. The Muslim world eventually ran out of steam and with nothing new coming up the pipe line declined. If you think the Muslim world is barbaric and yes in some parts they are, but compared to the West, they are nice guys who love not to kill people.

    Its good that you are not Muslim, i am not Muslim because the background of islam and what its sources say, when they say that the Islamic prophet Muhammad thought that he was demon possessed and became suicidal when he received the Revelations from the angel. This is a huge problem because when God appears or an angel does, its undeniable. God is good and His angels, pure and holy. If Muhammad could not see that then its a problem, it diminishes god and his knowledge to be able to come across well and anticipate. Did you ever read Omar Khayyam ? OK, he was said to have powerful protections, like VERY intelligent men often do. He wrote about what he thought about believers he could see around him, and about the obvious lack of interest of God - if God existed - towards the humans. A genius of his times, unfortunately exiled in a time of history and country he was not made for. He belong to OUR world, not the one of his contemporaries.

    If the word "Allah/al-Ilah" is of pagan origin, then so is the Judeo-Christian term for God-"El/Eloah/Elohim" which are all dervided from the same root word as the Arabic. Does the fact that Jesus is known as "Immanuel" ("El/Al is with us") by certain Christian accounts really negate its meaning to his followers? And Arabic was written...in fact, there were a wide variety of Arabic alphabets, and dialects at the time.

All other prophets in the jewish and christian religions are mentioned in the quran but are not deemed as the true messengers Believing in another religion whilst being a muslim is "haram" or prohibited as it is heresy and according to most muslim scholars, even apostacy

    Ibn Warraq says we need to stand up for our values without apologies. I completely agree. But in order to do that, we need to have values. Do we have any values left? Or have they all been killed by hedonism and the stretching of envelopes?
    As in any dialectic, go too far to one extreme, and the opposite extreme will rear its ugly head.

    Re. Rushdie, speaking as an agnostic ex-Christian, who's fairly well informed about Islam, writing a book satirising a religion can certainly never justify violence, however I recently read the Satanic Verses and it reads like he deliberately set out to infuriate Muslims. It had a large amount of content based on the life of Mohammed that ridicules him and deliberately picks out especially embarrassing stories from the Islamic histories to dwell on. It also contains things like all the prostitutues in a brothel deciding to name themselves after Mohammed's 13 wives. It also specifically satirises the Ayatollah Khomeini. So, he must have known it would anger and annoy, but got more than he bargained for.

    • @livjackson8734
      @livjackson8734 8 років тому

      ***** He made use of obscure stories that are theologically embarrassing to Islam, not necessarily things that are 'morally bad'. There are plenty of those in the sayings and histories too, but he didn't make use of them to the extent he could have if he'd wanted to just show Mohammed as being a 'bad person'. But the story he named the book after, for example, which is also an important episode in the book, wasn't known by a lot of Muslims before he did it, and is embarrassing because it shows Mohammed making a concession to polytheism - saying in a Quran verse to the Meccans that it's OK to worship their goddesses as intercessors with God, and then he changed his mind and said it didn't come from God but Satan made him say it instead... Strict monotheism is the most fundamental thing of all in Islam. No, I think people should be free to criticise or satirise Islam, but I'm just saying that when I read the book, having studied Islam a bit, I realised that it does contain a lot of elements that he would have known would piss Muslims off and that seem selected to do so. It doesn't excuse violence and threats towards him, but at the same time people shouldn't act surprised that Muslims were offended by it.

    Matthew 6:

Its funny how muhammed took Jewish beliefs and claimed them for his own adding his own twist to an already established religon.

    I have read his book. It's basically a collection of comments and quotes of detractors of Islam apart from his tutor M.Watt. He makes no mention or discusses counter arguments. Ibn Warraq fails to understand the central core of Islam is 'Imaan" or faith. I doubt whether he was ever a practicing Muslim during his adult life in England or offered salah which is the essence of Islamic practice. The problem with " imaan" is that you cannot analyse it without taking it in first. It's like describing the taste of orange without actually tasting it. Salah - ordinarily a three minute of body movements gives an overwhelming sense of peace and even joy if done correctly as taught by Prophet Muhammad. Salah also "stops" the person from forbidden acts like gazing at a nude person or lying, which I have observed happens when one offers salah correctly and this happens even to new Muslims offering their first salah and are not even aware that Muhammad taught salah achieves that for the believer. The first verse of the Quran's main chapter starts with the verse: "This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them" Quran (2:2-4)
    I will like to know whether Ibn Waraq ever performed salah experienced that and then abandoned Islam.

    • @haqq4260
      @haqq4260 6 років тому

      Of course Ibn Warraq never experienced Islam. Atheists and X Muslims do not understand that belief in God and faith is a PRIVILEGE and a function of the EFFORT the believer puts into it.“Take one step towards me, I will take ten steps towards you. Walk towards me, I will run towards you.. Ibn Warraq and many other X muslims put ZERO IN and got ZERO BACK. QURAN 50:16, Q10:25

    Not more that "aristotelianism" supposes that philosophers "worship" Aristotle's. There are (thanks God ? ;-) ) other things in life than worship or contempt, than strength and submission relationship, than alienating one's mind to the teachings or Mr So-and-so (peace on him if he needs it !). Adult attitudes DO exist too. Feel free to adopt them whenever you are ready.

Arabs never gave a sign of discovering Kepler's laws with their algebra, much less Newton's law. No, I know all about it. It was also custom to worship idols but apparently that was immoral but pedophilia was not. Of course the "custom of the times" defense requires people to believe that pedophilia is not severely sick and evil and simply a sign of the times? It can't be "refuted" at length...Adults don't find little children attractive unless they are sick and disturbed no matter what time they live...or is there a long explanation that would refute it?

    @gangstakiller1905 Taqyyah means not telling the truth about Islam to the non-Islamic people. Islam is violent to non-muslims. That's what muslims have to hide when we disagree with stoning, telling our way of living to muslims, ex-muslims that aint certain of their lives (not much of freedom of religion, because freedom of religion also conludes the freedom not to believe in Islam). Than there is Islam as political ideology, that's why all Islamic cultures end up with dictatorship.

Badly structured talk and not good that he keeps reading, hardly looking up, and saying 'I think I'll skip a bit now' etc. I'm sure we were somewhat interested in what his background was, but we don't need every tiny detail of his childhood, we want to know why he, a famous critic of Islam, rejected Islam.
