Honestly all of the Mystery Dungeon games have better stories than the main series games. My only complaint is that it should be easier to recruit partners from the dungeons. I hate having to do dungeons over and over because none of a specific species will join me.

My favorite ones are White 2 for it's difficulty and amazing sprite work. Emerald for it's battle frontier and for giving me my favorite pokemon Banette & Garvevior. Ultra moon for trying to be different with Trials, having a more cinematic story, Z stones, and having all the mega evolutions which is still my favorite mechanic. Dynamaxing and that Stupid Head Crystals are not a good replacement for me it looks dumb.

Arceus was the best game of the past 20 years. Come at me. The catching mechanics were phenomenal. If they could combine Arceus and Violet, that would be one hell of a game.
Ngl S/V would've been the best if they didn't run and look like trash Seriously, open world pokemon is a dream come true, the school setting was unique and interesting, and Arven's storyline was fantastic And Obama's right, these games were never very challenging since you could just grind until you're way over leveled
You could make that grinding argument for every single JRPG ever made. There is obviously a way to play JRPGs that doesn't involve grinding everyone to level 99 or 100 or whatever and "feels natural" if you progress through the story and side quests. But Pokemon never needs any grinding at all, let alone completing side content, because you can just rely on your starter for all but 1, maybe 2 gyms at most. It gets even more egregious with the later games, like Alpha Ruby/Omega Sapphire giving you Metagross right at the beginning of the game for free. The Stadium games demonstrated that you can have a fun and challenging battle strategy focused Pokemon game but the mainline games typically expect you to beat the entire game before experiencing that through Battle Frontier or Battle Tower or whatever they decide to call it in that iteration. And even then the battles just aren't that interesting compared to the Stadium battles on N64, which is kinda sad, and even those are below fan romhacks that make the gym battles way more interesting.
If Gamefreak made the 3D sprites more expressive, made rivals who were more challenging and had more depth, gave the gym leaders harder teams, and focused a bit more on making unique maps with some side quests and interesting Evil Team and Legendary Pokémon plots, Pokémon could enter a new golden era. I’ll die on that hill.

Mid gen 3 remakes though. Gen 7 babyfied the campaign even more, but the PVP was peak. Worst gen 1 remakes ever though. Gen 8 babyfied it even more, had a bad story, and worse PVP with less Pokémon. Legends Arceus was good, though, but still too easy. Gen 8 had terrible gen 4 remakes. Gen 9 threw out everything Legends Arceus did right, had inexcusable bugs, and babyfied the difficulty to inexcusable degree. Needless to say I've switched to alternatice monster taming games like Digimon, EvoCreo, Monster Rancher and Monster Crown.
Just because you think something is overrated doesn't mean you can't acknowledge the good things it did. Obama here has the most balanced and fair takes, cause he's able to admit to the flaws, and confirm the good parts of other series. Biden and Trump are too vitriolic and acknowledge the good outside their own faves.
Gen 2 adds almost every single mechanic that most fans consider essential to the franchise. Abilities, held items, berries, apricorns, etc. Honestly I just can't empathize with people who think Gen 1 is better and I was 7 when it came out, I played Red when it was new with a shiny new Game Boy I got for Christmas. Genwunners baffle me.
Obama is 100% right on his takes about the newest games, and Trump is 100% right on his takes on the older generations, until he started dissing eight mystery dungeon. Gens two through five were incredible games that made great use of the original formula, having some excellent spritework and capitalizing on the game play loop quite well, Gen 2 admittedly less so. Gens 6 and 7 were when the games started outgrowing the formula, and needed a change. That's why they appear dull and uninspired despite having some good ideas here and there. Gens 8 and 9 may have some flaws, but as Obama said, the formula got shaken up in a very good way, S/V being the games with the most abundant and quality content in the entire core series. Legends Arceus is just scarlet and violet but done better. Gen 1 was kinda a garbage fire, though. I like the pokemon from that Gen, but the spritework isn't the best, and it's buggier than any Gen that came before or after it even at launch.
I think it’s funny how there’s a bunch of different versions of these where they all have different & contradicting opinions. My head canon is Trump just likes to argue & Joe is senile and can’t remember which games he likes
@@kristophesiem5336 I'm only interested in the mon designs and the desings of the mons in gen 5 where fucking atrocious. The writing couldn't save it. Not a fan of the region desing either but at least it isn't a fucking strait line like the recent games.
@@CrizzyEyes Gen 1 had crazy merit in that it built the well-established formula we have today and it kickstarted the series. It even had better execution in its formula than Gen 3 since you sere able to complete the National Dex with just those games and battling nor trading were as big of a hassle.

To me the best of Gen 7 is better than any other gen, whereas the worst Gen 7 gets... isn't thaaaat far off from the worst of other gens.

The two first Pokemon Mystery dungeon games on both the GBA and DS kicks any mainline Pokemon storyline any day of the week.
Facts I can’t tell you how many times I’ve replayed sky, it’s been over 10 years and it’s still an amazing time every time
