Because ultimately that's the main issue in this discourse: people want to win the war without having to fight the battle. The goal is to shut others up. And this is true for both sides of the aisle, I believe. Another issue is the confusion people have toward language. A lack of philosophical background in education is to be blamed here. Simple concepts like Wittgenstein's Language Games theory would already help a lot to clarify things (basically people forget how language functions and how 'definitions' are constructed based on its use rather than an object's essence. A concrete example would be how people get confused about racism--the term itself is very difficult to 'define', so when someone calls someone else a 'racist', both parties will have a very different idea of what the word signifies, without realizing it. Does that make sense?

I left my state to a red state because I am a conservative now I am a home owner and my son is in a much better school district and I don’t see needles and homeless everywhere. Washington state took gun rights from over 1 million adults which is illegal they were felons they just changed their laws that banned selling rifles and pistols to any one under 21 so that was the final straw that and I went from paying 1k for a 1bdrm to 3k for the exact same apartment in 2 years because of how my state was giving out free housing to low income people I can’t compete with the government on rent so obviously they didn’t want me now I own a house so it worked out , I also make more money per hour in a much lower cost of living

I tore myself away from any political identity and reassessed every politician from the ground up as someone who leaned heavily right before. I'd say I'm pretty centrist that leans right now but I see the merit in what so many sides say. I realize so much of the division comes from misrepresenting others views being such a powerful tool to keep yourself as the dominant view. Both sides have gone insane with it and we need to leave that kind of behavior/rhetoric behind.
Viewing what people say alone and ignoring what their political identity is supposed to label them opened my eyes to just how insanely inefficient and dishonest too many politicians are. Now I see people like Bernie who I think is 100% putting up the good fight for what he feels is best and I like him a lot now.

Because ultimately that's the main issue in this discourse: people want to win the war without having to fight the battle. The goal is to shut others up. And this is true for both sides of the aisle, I believe. Another issue is the confusion people have toward language. A lack of philosophical background in education is to be blamed here. Simple concepts like Wittgenstein's Language Games theory would already help a lot to clarify things (basically people forget how language functions and how 'definitions' are constructed based on its use rather than an object's essence. A concrete example would be how people get confused about racism--the term itself is very difficult to 'define', so when someone calls someone else a 'racist', both parties will have a very different idea of what the word signifies, without realizing it. Does that make sense?
