Fly with wraps - Paragliding

- This is one of the common topics I cover in my progression courses. Personally I constantly adjust my grip while I fly to find the sweet spot for brake line inputs.

You should'nt move your hands so much and so fast, not easy to clearly see what you do.
I'll do my best for the next one. 😅
Spot on. Clear.
Glad you think so! ☺
I really like having shorter brakes, more responsive and the hands in the right area
Me too at the same time I also add wraps so I can use full bar without having issues on my trailing edge. If the brake lines are too short they can add brake input while accelerated.
@@FlyingKarlis yeah I heard it's not good to shorten lines too much for this reason (needs to give zero input on full bar)
Yup, this is why I like to fly with wraps, as that adds more precise control, while leaving the brake lines long enough for speed bar.
Wow Karlis, it sounds like you've been in my classes! 😅
Don't know about that 🤔
After flying for 30 years (and consequently being an old man stuck in my ways) with hands through you've convinced me to have a serious go at what you describe lol. Short video, on point and all totally logical. Well done!
Great to hear! Happy this has been informative! 🥰
Never flew with hands through toggles, always felt like I had handcuffs on.
@@mountainflyhigh I usde fly through the toggle as I was tought thay way, once I started flying within acro community, I quickly learned why it isn't a good idea.
@@mountainflyhigh For me it feels like a safety thing. I see so many launches where people lose their handles and that is super dangerous. In fact I put hands through brake handles as soon as I connect the risers so that I'm in control while I finish the rest of the setup. Just what you're used to I guess.
@@peterelliott2914 - The only people I ever see lose brake handles during launch, are those that were never taught to kite correctly. If you don't kite properly reverse, so you can turn forward without having to re-grab your handles, you'll never lose them. During and right after launch is one of the most dangerous times to have your hands inside the toggles. If you botch the launch, then reach down towards the ground to fend off and lessen your impact, you'll be adding even more input to the side already turning you towards the ground, instead of being able to let go.
reminds me of Theo De Blic's tutorials when he does deep stall tutorial on a CCC glider and always says look very easy like this and we're out, super easy ! and it goes so fast you barely saw what happened haha
😂☺ Well, this is a lot simpler than deep stall on CCC wings 😂☺ @theoflies
@@FlyingKarlis for sure! The vibe is there though!
Thanks! 🥰
Holy smokes, thank you! I feed my hand through 😮. That makes so much sense 🙏🏽❤️
Glad you could learn something useful!
Wraps are not confortable, I want to be confortable when I fly, so I never use them. I shorten the brake a bit, not too much and put the hand through, I know the added risk in case of twists.
Sometimes changing the handles or the glows helps with the comfort. Thumb in isn't a good idea. 😕
Same here - Wrap is not Comfortable - can't fly like this for more than an hour - after that I transition back to put the Hand through. I see the Point of Karlis about the Security but, as of now after 6 Years of Putting the hand trough I never had even 1 Occasion where I couldn't take my Hand out of the Brakes. (but I am special in this because I never fly with huge Gloves -> less risk there)
side question, what are you sitting in? did you drape the glider over something or ??? I use motorcycle tie down straps but have to make believe I have brakes, etc.
This is a setup near Lake Garda landing, it's an old harness strapped to old risers with a bungy for the brake toggles to have a better feel for it. I saw it and thought that it's a nice place to make a wraps video.
@@FlyingKarlis Very cool idea. great video. I don't do wraps yet but it gives me ideas.
