She looks in great shape to be from 1973. the great thing about your channel is what you are doing looks affordable for many people. Thanks for taking us along.
+Robb's Homemade Life it totally is especially if you are willing so learn and work hard. Thanks for the kind words! Let us know if there is anything in particular you would like to see.
After years of research me and my wife decided on a trawler. I like the Marine traders and Old Grand Banks. The size is right. The fuel economy cant be beat when it comes to power boats. Strong and sturdy vessels. I grew up working on tugboats in the Gulf. So I'm a custom to slow and steady. Trawler seems like the easiest transition. Spend most our time in the Great Lakes. When kids are gone we will take her to the Bahamas maybe further down on the Islands. Trawlers give ya a lot of bang for your buck. Very affordable for the regular everyday Joe like my self. I wish there was more channels about people living on their trawlers. Thanks for the vids keep em up.
thanks for taking the time to explain the inner workings of your boat my wife and I are looking at living aboard a late 80s 42 ft Carver for the summer months in Michigan we live in California and boats and slips prices are way too much $$$
You two are awesome! Love watching your videos and love your boat. Hoping to buy one like yours for my retirement in 4 years....Be safe and keep up the good work....ENJOY
great video, im currently getting my 27ft fiberform ready fir the water. interesting to see how life on the water is. keep the videos coming. your boat is fantastic and beautiful
Howdy I'm a fellow live aboard, I have a 1983 Carver 3207 Aft Cabin. This season will be the starting of my third year on a boat, I'm from Minnesota. I'm glad I found you channel.
Yep, I live year round on my boat. Basically I do some extra insulation, wrap the boat, and install a propane RV furnace. Also during the winter we need to run agitators/bubblers to keep the water from freezing the hull in. I'm planning in the next few months to start a UA-cam channel to show about living on a boat and other interests I have.
Start with some videos about living on your boat through the cold Minnesota winter. A lot of people would find that super interesting!!! If I ever had my boat in cold weather I would LOVE to install a small wood burning stove!
Tula's Endless Summer try using a pellet stove, it uses less fuel and lasts longer than a traditional wood burning stove and stays warmer longer. Add a 12 volt fan and your golden.
Beautiful boat and family sir, watched quite a few of the videos. Your lifestyle is too awesome, its very inspiring to see you guys being so content out there. I thought I wanted to build a cabin, now I want to build a boat more! I knew there was a reason I bought my tig welder, I hope 200amps is enough to weld nice beads on an aluminum keel and ribs.
Your’s is a lot like our marine trader. 1979 Marine Trader. We have an odd design of ours and have hull number 13 out of 15 made. It was a seized drug boat that we bought at auction and restored. Pretty much rebuilt the entire boat with my grandpa and improved many things, including yanking out that old Lehman motor for a more efficient 4-cylinder yanmar.
A 5 horse power gas engine water pump for emergency floods would be a great addition, can be a life saver. Also, was a great idea to remove the fuel hog Onan generator ! I would have done the same.
Great vid! We have a Taiwanese built 1990 Transworld Fantail 50 ft trawler that we love. We are not sit at the dock people and have the boat out all the time. However, we want to take off and cruise full time on the great loop in the next year or so. It seems to me that our boat will never be ready, she is 27 years old with the original single engine. It is a Perkins 6 cylinder and seems to be in fine shape despite having over 10,000 hours on it. Your boat is even older than ours and you are out there living the life! Worrying about making the leap to full time cruising is difficult on so many levels. How did you manage to overcome your worries about it and get away?
Billy, Sierra & Jetty. I am about to go look at a 1973 34' Marine Trader on the hard in Chicago. (Not giving up sailing though) So great to google and realize that one of my fav channels had a quick tour of the exact boat. (I didn't recall what trawler you had back then) What problems did you find besides the vacuum pump system? Any osmotic blistering or? Jetty is so young in this! Enjoying the Bahamas videos as well.
Great video like all the ones before i admire you guys you have a very smart set up not only on the boat but you dingy is well very smart to be living on the sea what is the stimetated value today of you boat?
It's wonderful to see a loving couple living a beautiful life. if you had it to do over again would you buy a twin-screw model for the safety Factor? Thank you very much and best to you
rod moyes if you go back to his early videos you will see he actually started with a sail boat that he restored. That boat was named Tula (hence the channel name)
My 79 CHB 34 with Ford Lehman 120HP (essentially the same boat) burns about 1.5-1.7 GPH at 7k. Once it burned ~2.9 GPH, and I found it had leaking fuel hose. I'd look for some fuel issue.
Just want to ask about your tender. What size is it and what would be an around good tender to buy? We have a 36ft Carver Aft cabin and we are looking for a tender. Love the videos and my wife and I are looking forward to watching many more.
nah, we just have to plan ahead. Island hopping in the Bahamas we didn't even come close to running low. We also carried about 25 extra gallons in jugs
I have a 30' wooden lobster boat live aboard conversion out of Gloucester mass. I have a early 120 Ford Lehman as well. What voltage does your alternator charge at with a minimal load?
How often do you run the dehumidifier? Was that a big problem for you guys in Florida? I know some liveaboards use plants to help control it - I'm not sure how well that works?
Hey man great video, I’m about to purchase a 34 marine trader. How’s she in astern? What’s the prop walk like? She pull to STBD or Port? Also the one I’m looking at has a bow thruster.
One of the best improvements to my single engine CHB 34 has been the bow thruster. It was expensive (20k, including a full bottom paint and a about 25 blister repair job on haul out. The cost of the thruster was abt 5K.) I have no problems docking any more. Before that, going astern, I had almost no control going left or right.
+Scott Magdalein honestly it's usually the iPhone 6 or go pro. We usually post what we use in the caption of the video and the link to where you can get it
Ok, cool. Thanks for the info. We are heading down toward south Florida in a few months before crossing to the Abacos. If we're close, we'd love to meet you guys. Been watching (secretly) for a few months.
If you are cooking with so much oil that you have waste cooking oil, you cannot have the buff body that Bill and Sierra both display. 1 TBSP of olive oil will saute 2 large portions easy and there is no oil left over.
Wrong batteries, wrong wiring on the batteries. Dont run a petrol generator on a boat, it will kill you. All that said you are doing it, but uh, its a bit dangerous how you have it now.
May I ask what batteries you recommend? and also what is preferred setup of each battery bank? Do you avoid using gas-generator b/c of high CO2 and CO levels? Thanks for the insight!
GC2 is the proper battery. batteries should be fused at the positive post. Then run to a buss bar for distribution. You do not use a gas generator because of CO2 issues, it can kill you real quick.
+Scooby's Scoop I never saw a fuse on a battery used for starting. It would have to be such high amperage that it would not protect wires or devices in the event of a short circuit.
Paul Ohlstein you do not fuse for the surge, you fuse for the rated amperage of the starter. most are less then 1200 watts. so a 120amp fuse. This would be very protective in the event of a short circuit.
One piece of advice you should make sure and have your girlfriend in every video. Or better yet she should do all the videos and you should stay behind the camera and not talk

Hey guys my wife and I love watching your adventures! We are beginning our transition to living on the water! Keep the adventures coming.God bless!
Great Tour. Love Trawlers, and looking at getting one to live on.
i boat out of North Palm next to Old Port Cove, didn't realize how fuel efficient some Trawlers are - that's awesome. big fan of your videos.
After years of research me and my wife decided on a trawler. I like the Marine traders and Old Grand Banks. The size is right. The fuel economy cant be beat when it comes to power boats. I just picked up a 77 C&L trawler with the exact same Ford Lehman motor I'm pretty impressed how long you ran that old dog for hours
great video, im currently getting my 27ft fiberform ready fir the water. interesting to see how life on the water is. keep the videos coming. your boat is fantastic and beautiful
Howdy I'm a fellow live aboard, I have a 1983 Carver 3207 Aft Cabin. This season will be the starting of my third year on a boat, I'm from Minnesota. I'm glad I found you channel.
Awesome Don! Are you on the boat in Minnesota year round? How do you keep warm in the winter?!?
Yep, I live year round on my boat. Basically I do some extra insulation, wrap the boat, and install a propane RV furnace. I appreciate the info. Thinking of picking up a MT 40' to do the big loop with maybe a detour past Quebec and on to the Canadian islands.
A 5 horse power gas engine water pump for emergency floods would be a great addition, can be a life saver. Also, was a great idea to remove the fuel hog Onan generator ! I would have done the same.

Thanks for sharing, learning alot
Great video like all the ones before i admire you guys you have a very smart set up not only on the boat but you dingy is well very smart to be living on the sea what is the stimetated value today of you boat?
somewhere between 18k and 25k in the current condition I would say
It's wonderful to see a loving couple living a beautiful life. if you had it to do over again would you buy a twin-screw model for the safety Factor? Thank you very much and best to you
You guys are Great!!! Thanks for sharing!!! :)
Very informative video. Have you ever considered sail?

subscriber from Taiwan says Hi!
nice boat
Beautiful boat. With 360 nautical miles...no worries about running out of fuel?
nah, we just have to plan ahead. Island hopping in the Bahamas we didn't even come close to running low. We also carried about 25 extra gallons in jugs
Good information thank you.
I have a 30' wooden lobster boat live aboard conversion out of Gloucester mass. I have a early 120 Ford Lehman as well. What voltage does your alternator charge at with a minimal load?
I believe you mean 65 Amp not 65 watt on the alternator.
yes, you are correct. Thanks for the catch.
How often do you run the dehumidifier? Was that a big problem for you guys in Florida? I know some liveaboards use plants to help control it - I'm not sure how well that works?
I have to look into using plants. We use it whenever the generator is running and its real humid out so maybe a few hours every other day.
10% -leave 10% out of your range estimates for emergency reserves. Assume you get a max range of 324 miles and you should be good :o)
+S Newland we just call it an even 300 :-)
Tula's Endless Summer clearly a smart Skipper.
How bad is it in the summer without air conditioning? Btw, just subscribed. I really like your videos!

How much was your trawler? If I'm going to buy one, do I need to get a marine mechanic to check out all the main parts?
I’m currently looking for a trawler to live-aboard. I live here in Jupiter as well. Wondering if I could ask you some questions?
Our email is tulasendlesssummer@gmail.com
We will do our best to help you!
Great down to earth Video bro. Whats the biggest trip you have been on Cheers From OZ
Just down from long island, NY in 12 days.
Hey - love your videos. Do you two ever think of getting into a sailboat or does the trawler fit your needs better. thx
Rick Hayes if you go back to his early videos you'll see he started on a sailboat. Tula
I know he used to have a small sailboat - that's why I was asking if they would go back to a sailboat or stick with the trawler
where are you anchored up at in this video?
how many hours does it take you to go from florida to the Bahamas and how many miles is it? thanks, good vids
dave22 from Miami it’s 181 miles at 8 knots it would take 19.625 hours
How much should I pay for a used trawler.
And is it safe to cross blue water.
how many hours does that diesel have?
No clue, any idea where I could find the hour meter?
i would assume somewhere near the gauges
Bryce Peterson probably on the motor somewhere
Hello fellow trawler dweller! Nice tour. One question: what camera do you normally use for these videos?
+Scott Magdalein honestly it's usually the iPhone 6 or go pro. We usually post what we use in the caption of the video and the link to where you can get it
Ok, cool. Thanks for the info. We are heading down toward south Florida in a few months before crossing to the Abacos. If we're close, we'd love to meet you guys. Been watching (secretly) for a few months.
Awesome!!! Yes, let us know if you come through Jupiter!
Haha. I watch both of your channels. If you guys meet up you need to make a cross-channel video!
How much did you pay for such a rig if I may ask?
Any Fish finders, GPS, Radar ect. Equipment??
Just Navionics, a couple simple backup gps, simple depth sounder, no radar.
Thats awesome man Im on a live aboard as well not as big as yours just recently got a new gps/sonar makes a huge difference when out trolling
it would be nice if you told us what you paid for the boat
Love the fund you are having. Are a married couple?
what's you draft and beam
2.5 gal per hour and 360 mile range I was considering a trawler but I thought they got waaaaay better mileage what gives?
+Marshall Gordon 1.5-2 gal/hour when we are not towing tender
ah ok still seems high i guess some manufacturers or people inflate their numbers im sure. thank you for the reply happy cruising!
old motor
Is it a cored fiberglass or solid fiberglass?
+Emma McPerry the hull is solid. The decks and cabin top are cored
where does the dog potty?
What you need to get is a electoscan treatment system.
No more pumping worth every penny
Bad ass
Why not try waste cooking oil to run your boat ??
as long as it was filtered well and heated that old engine would run it just fine. But it is important to do start up and shutdowns on regular diesel
If you are cooking with so much oil that you have waste cooking oil, you cannot have the buff body that Bill and Sierra both display. 1 TBSP of olive oil will saute 2 large portions easy and there is no oil left over.
Sure waste oil from local businesses we'd be happy to give it away in the U.K. It everywhere
Paul Ohlstein many restaurants and fast food chains will give it away for free
Someone should try this
bruh ur boat was built on 420
c"est le bordel dans ton bateau
Get a cat engine
a motor cat? That's been recommended to us...
Wrong batteries, wrong wiring on the batteries. Dont run a petrol generator on a boat, it will kill you. All that said you are doing it, but uh, its a bit dangerous how you have it now.

@@Tulasendlesssummer I must say, Sierra is a beautiful lady. Hope to see you in the San Francisco Delta when the new (to you) boat is going.
