honestly, I think they have potential to be a really hilarious little group. They should look into maybe finding writing classes or even just acting classes would probably help them come up with better scripts and writing

I really feel for them. They stuck with Dhar Mann and helped him get so big and he paid them dust. I wish they had decent writers to help them with this little project because it’s obvious their strength is in acting and not in writing.
It kind of feels like they're going for The Office or Community vibes, which is kind of fun. I definitely wish them the best of luck.

I think they have the kind of ambition that doesn't go well with youtube. They don't want to be as trashy as Dhar Mann and they aren't, but viewers eat up trashy content and get bored quickly by anything slow-paced (I admit the last part is about me too). Our attention span is tiny and we're constantly looking for more and more stimuli. It seems like they want this to be sort of artistic. I might be reading into it too much but it feels like they intentionally made it unsuitable for the typical youtube crowd in order to rebel against lazy, low value content
I agree. I hope they can find their stride by coming up with some sort of middle ground.
I wish them the best. It reminds me of my own awkward moments when I wanna write a story and it's just strange and dry.
With some practice, research, and imagination I know these guys can be great.
You are suppose to watch the Mugshots, they aren't trailers/behind the scenes things exactly. They are more like mini episodes setting up each episodes? I don't know how to explain it, but without watching them the show is a little weird.
So you see, you can't underpay your actors for too long without eventually losing them😃
actually, I kinda like it. Kinda feels like those british submersive comedies. Like Fleabag just with not... that good of writing. But they could get there with a little practice

for some reason it really reminds me of british tv shows, like the low budget ones xD and its kinda slow and weird but I mthink they can get somewhere with it for sure
Absolutely. Immediately made me think of The Outlaws
it was little slow and usually i wouldnt be into this kinda stuff, but now i actually kinda liked it, and i could watch this if there is always gonna be in every episode these same characters whos life we get to follow
I think the majority of issues with this can be fixed with one simple step--get a new video editor.
Their current editor:
can't get audio levels correct (see 1:40)
can't sync audio (see 4:30 and 22:34 )
leaves weird pauses in the final (see 17:37)
does weird color correcting (see 21:30).
At the very least, it would look more professional and polished, and be a whole lot less awkward.
And maybe a new camera person might help, the current guy seems to like cutting off the tops of people's heads and lingering at awkward distance (what even is that shot at 22:11, why are you lurking so far away?); but that could also be the editor doing those things, and a good editor should be able to at least pick takes that aren't as flawed.
Dharr Man's scripts might be awkward, but boy oh boy was his production crew good at their jobs.

Though the situation and protest is very sad, I am glad that the actors put together their own channel and seem to be doing really great now. My guess is that the actors can't be too open about saying what he's done out of fear of getting sued for defamation. I don't think they have the money or the necessary evidence to win a trail, especially against someone rich.
There's a prequel episode where he embezzled funds from his employer and framed his wife in the process by forging her signature or something like that. I watched it when it first came out but it was similarly cringe so I didn't commit it to memory.

I watch all the episodes of Good Werks and it is amazing. Surprisingly funny, heartwarming, and the characters are great and intriguing. I'd recommend watching the short side-episodes to get some context as well. My favorite character is Gerald.
Does the pacing get better?
I can see what they’re going for with the tone. Kind of an awkward Napoleon Dynamite thing. It just needs to be set up better, in the script.

It’s because he’s taking different parts from his comeback stream, I’m assuming. Plus I’m pretty sure he doesn’t edit himself so the workload shouldn’t really be bad.

I don’t think, the actors are bad, but the story isn’t interesting enough for an episodic show, at least for me
maybe for kids, but like Joinen said it’s probably too slow for kids
I think if they tried a more self contained episode kinda thing it would be better
for people with not much writing experience they did great.

I think that directing also plays a part in how the actors come off, not just the writing. Sometimes words can work but the delivery is weird. These actors are probably good enough to get bit parts in shows but I guess it's hard finding work out there. I hope things work out for them.
It kind of feels like they didn't actually have a director at all, just got sent out with some scripts and cameras and left to their own devices.

Tbf, going from Dhar Mann content to something new like this, I dont expect it to be anywhere near perfect. I feel the acting is much better, though, and doesn't seem quite absurd. It's just a learning experience as you gotta start somewhere. Pacing can be tricky to get right.
Honestly I wish them good luck. It was slow ish but considering they’re on a tight budget and just starting then it’s good!

It's not a good way to get information into a story, but if you watch the stuff leading up to (and between) the episodes, it does make a lot more sense. None of that stuff is in the actual episodes, so it's not like they were previews or spoilers: they had important information for the characters backgrounds. Example: it explains those two are a married couple and she is mad because he did fraud or something at work that got them community service, because he implemented her too. As a writer, I hate this and think it's sloppy, but it does make it make sense if you watch them (you should not have to because it should already be in the story, but hey, everyone's different).
The Dhar Mann actors have also been on another channel called “totally studios” where they work work with other people and make “Dhar Mann like” videos.
I like the dry humor, seems like something that has potentual to be good once they get used to doing it.

I loved the nun in this, really made it better. The meta joke was decent, and i like the subtlety of the person throwing trash on the ground after they leave the area. However, i honestly felt the dialogue was a little juvenile. Half way through i felt that it was intened for a kids show with children actors. A group of kids in dentention that get to know each other. We dont know much about these characters either, besides the usual martial problems of the couple told to outsiders for our benefit. Itll be nice if we found out exactly what the dude did to get himself in community service. Maybe a few flashbacks was needed. I think Joinen is right when he said the episode did not suit UA-cam.
I am glad they are getting better working conditions though!
Thank you for the comments explaining how the other content, like smaller videos, helped explain some background to the characters. I do think it'll have been better (budgeting and other things likely prevented it) if they had those things in the first episode. Maybe similarly to Guardians of The Galaxy's lineup segment.

I'm wondering if the upload messed up some of the syncing? Maybe not 'cause the one with the bad syncing was the actor/bus driver.

It's not top tier quality writing, but it didn't make be want to punch my phone like Dhar Mann videos, so that's a big positive

2:20 I like how they misspelled "redemption" in the title card.
This was super confusing and very corny, _BUT_ in all fairness, it was kind of endearing in it's own way. If they keep at it, I do feel like it could actually become a fairly decent series. They've laid a decent enough foundation. And they didn't hammer home a useless platitude at the end like Dhar Mann tends to do, even if they didn't _quite_ stick the landing there. For a first outing, they could have done a lot worse.

Good Werks looks like they're using lower saturation for their video. Edit the settings in a camera or edit a photo in a smartphone's photo editor and turn down the saturation. You'll get something like this. I think it's fine. It's better than a video or movie style that's a dark tint that's hard to see a lot in the video. Maybe their choice is to be a bit gloomy since the situation/background of the story starts from not such a great point.
Finding a new Joinen video within 10 minutes of being posted is elite

Okay but like... Thats actually the most on point way to have that scene imo because ive literally had that happen to me and that was dead serious how that played out. I was talking to a customer at my work who didnt (to me) look that much younger than me, and then when i mentioned an event i went to a in 2017, they were like "woah, i was just starting middle school when that event happened!" And i was just stunlocked with my mouth open.

It feels a little bit like a Scandinavian production, they can be slow paced in the beginning, have similar colour grading and the I have no idea what’s going on start.
Also some amazing British and german production teams play with this awkward humour.
It wasn’t super good but I think this could be going somewhere. Give them a few episodes to figure themselves out. In Europe similar UA-cam projects performed quite well.
I'm so glad that blonde actress quit. Dhar was being such a pervert to her, always putting her in creepy embarrassing fetishistic situations where she's getting vomited on and humiliated and "put in her place". She was clearly some stand-in for a woman in his past. It was gross. He was like some closeted Andrew Taint follower.

I feel like you're just used to videos (like my animated story) that just smack you in the face with how fast the plot is going, 'cause this seems like very normal pacing for a tv series/ web series to me. Actually I kinda wanna go watch more of it right now, so for me it did what a first episode is supposed to do :P
Also, false: interesting stories can have the setting of doing community service. Misfits did it and that was very entertaining.
They're just starting out, and probably can't put much money into production yet given the former job, so they'll probably get better as they go

Honestly, I feel like this has potential. I actually think they have a talent for writing, they just need some time and practice to make that talent into a skill. In some ways it actually reminds me of how I wrote as a teenager and some of the dialog is already better then Dhar Mann.

Edit: I watched the other episodes and they are so much better,
So take these criticisms with a grain of salt.
The idea is good,
But the execution wasn't quite there.
Like the chapters were all hard cuts,
But there was no notable difference in tone for most of them.
As you pointed out 2 of the characters look so similar they are hard to distinguish,
Give one of em a coloured baseball cap or jacket and they'd be unmistakeably different.
There's so many small things that need to be ironed out,
But on the whole they're off to a good start.

I got it, the creators are big fans of good trouble.... People on that show constantly talk without moving their lips.

It seriously felt like there was something missing here, So I went to their channel to watch the "Origin Story" thing, Only one out before this episode was for the dude and his wife, Being honest it didn't give any more context really... Like I think I'd've been equally confused if I watched that before watching this. At least it makes clear why the wife is mad at Howard, But that's about it.
