    Just did my first PE flight. It was scary and exciting at the same time. I've made the decision to train for my PPL and this is my start. Been flying the sim for years but always been afraid to do it with ATC.

    Just getting my FS2020 rig setup. New to the sim world but a former Vermont National Guard Blackhawk pilot working on my Fixed Wing SEL rating. Super excited to get started on Pilot Edge! Thanks for the tutorials!

    I'm very impressed with your constant "getting ahead of the airplane" mantra. Well done--for people watching this video who are becoming pilots or want to, that leads them in the right direction. Setting frequencies (when you know them) ahead of time is a great time-saver. Are you a real-world pilot, by chance?
    Aside from flight sims, this video could be used as a training video for real pilots demonstrating communication flow and thinking ahead of the airplane.

      Thank you... Yep - was a flying instructor in the Royal Air Force & was a message I always tried to impress upon my students! :)

    God these guys sound so much more polished than the VATSIM crowd. Not that there’s anything wrong with the VATSIM controllers! I’m nervous now about switching over to this.

    Thanks for the very professional presentation. It would be great to see you do the I-Ratings if you ever get chance.

      Agreed. The videos they have for the I-Ratings are not nearly as good as the vids for the CAT… they could use a do over.

    Great stuff! Getting the itch to fly again after being away for about 20 years. (ex commercial helicopter/private fixed wing). This is exactly what I was looking for - thanks for making these videos.

    I'm a rather rusty VFR pilot. Got myself some sim gear (and running X-Plane) and PilotEdge so I'm going to try this sector soon. Thanks. Goal is IFR but I'd like to really brush up on everything before heading back to the skies. Also in the market for a G1000 C172 but that is not a priority right now. Like the way you think ahead, monitor 121.5, etc.

    Great video, I just signed up for PilotEdge and your approach is awesome.
    Are you located in the UK or USA?

    live in the area, it's state highway 12 that runs between Ellensburg, through Yakima (with a number of restricted airspaces) and Sunnyside, and to the Tri-Cities

    I'm getting my sim setup ready to fly to hopefully fly the SimVenture approach tonight (July 24) or tomorrow July 25. I'm watching this to see what pilotedge is supposed to work like; I got it hooked up last night but I couldn't transmit. (I suspect it's either a software problem, or I don't have the right button configured for ptt, and/or my headset is not set up correctly).
    I'm only a few minutes in, and this is useful. I wanted to make one note--it's driving me nuts looking at your panel as you're getting the airplane configured that both your fuel tanks are sitting at 1/8 of a tank. I realize it's a sim and that's my problem (being a real-world pilot) but I thought I'd pass it on. ;-D
    Thanks for the video! I suspect I'll be subscribing to your channel.

      Double check that you’ve got the button/switch you want to use as your PTT set to ‘Contact ATC’ ... That should do it! If that doesn’t work, then look at joining the PilotEdge Discord Server (details on their site) ... There’s a great tech support community there who will help get you up and running with no fuss!
      To pull the vids together like this, they’re often done over a number of flights, so sometimes the edit is out of order... (Mostly due to random Air Traffic interjections which mess up the ‘flow’ for people watching who maybe new to it all)... On this one, the take off/departure I used was actually right at the end of the flying, hence the fuel state.
      There shouldn’t be another one like that now though, so you can rest easy. We spotted it and now check that (along with a few other bits) for continuity! 😉👌🏻

    Great flight remember to plan on altitude adjustment with those large altimeter changes.

    Great video. ATC talking kinda fast. Airport elevation 1099' but your altimeter showed 1500'. I'm confused. My first PE flight by the way.

    Thanks for this video, excellent work - I signed up for PilotEdge but before I could get my first flight in, my old Logitech headphones broke on me. I like the one you are wearing here, not so huge and bulky - may I ask what kind those are? Thanks!

    At 22:00 does the tower say "Report Golf Zulu if you just straight ahead" ? I really don't hear "Seven One Four Golf Zulu" or "Four Golf Zulu". And at 22:06 he does it again!

    Nice video. The pitch did not go out of control like mine does after you disengage the auto pilot. What yoke did you use? BTW Awesome landing.

    • @MrMPW
      @MrMPW  4 роки тому +1

      That’s strange... It should all be in trim when you disengage the AP and should be pretty stable. I use the Honeycomb Alpha yoke; it’s amazing-especially for the price point. Very happy with it... I’ll credit the landing to the good yoke and a dollop of luck! ;)

      Mr MPW i am considering buying the honeycomb yoke. And hoping to connect it with my saitek throttle quadrant. I hope it will be compatible. What throttle quadrant are you using, did you connect the throttle directly to your PC or to the honeycomb yoke?

    • @MrMPW
      @MrMPW  4 роки тому

      So sorry @Sky Hawk - only just saw your reply... Yep; I’ve got the Saitek throttle quadrant and it’s connected directly to the PC.

    What happens if you call in with a foreign aeroplane registration and use standard ICAO radio phraseology, would the ‘controllers’ understand it?

    You’re monitoring “God”?

    • @Zimz006

      From an AOPA article: "A quick refresher from the Aeronautical Information Manual: All aircraft should maintain a listening watch on "Guard" 121.5 MHz to the maximum extent possible." ..."What are the benefits of monitoring 121.5? Restoring lost communications is a big one. If you flub a handoff or ATC forgets to hand you off, and you fly out of range, you can be reached on 121.5 and told to come up on a new frequency."
