Here's how you can attach an image to a 3D model in PowerPoint:
1 Insert a 3D model onto a slide by going to the "Insert" tab and selecting "3D Models". Choose a 3D model you want to add to your slide.
2 Once the 3D model is inserted, select it to bring up the "3D Model" tab on the ribbon.
3 Click on the "Material" dropdown in the "3D Model" tab and select "New Material".
4 In the "New Material" dialog box, click on the "Texture" dropdown and select "File".
5 Choose the image file you want to use as a texture and click "Open".
6 The image file will be applied as a texture to the 3D model.
7 You can adjust the size, position, and orientation of the texture by using the controls in the "Texture Transform" section of the "3D Model" tab.
Note that not all 3D models may support texturing, and the texture mapping may vary based on the model you use.

I did it the exact same way you did and it worked. I changed some colours and the effect of the morph seem to be lost. the circles just slide from side to side without the cicrles getting bigger ... i don't understand

It would be possible :) but it would require much more work and it would be not be as flexible :)
