If the engineer who specified the beam had to actually help install it with you he might think twice about the installation labor. Great Crew! ❤

I was once on a job not too long ago where me and the boss had to get an about 6-800 pound steel beam from the trailer, and into the house, and lifted up as a support in the roof. Luckily we could get the trailer almost right next to the window, and built a scaffold to drag it into the house. There we just used a carjack to lift it slowly up, while backing it up with 2by4’s.
It was definitely an interesting experience as a schoolboy, soon to be apprentice, and it taught me that if you’re creative, then you can finish hard tasks without a large group of people.

I remember when some of those guys first showed up in your videos & as apprentices? The guy in the square toed boots and so on! Now they are more advanced , seem confident in themselves however; it’s more a testament to your leadership skills in giving them that space ( I know I hv lost some ppl ) Jared? I hope I remembered your name correctly ?
I bet your Dad is really quite a skilled craftsman and leader also! Really glad to young men like yourself improving our trade! Coming from just a lowly carpenter who has had pretty rotten GC’s I subbed for!

Get you some 1-inch bar and make you a leverage bar for things like that it'll hook to the end of the beam it looks like a giant letter f but the two outgoing pieces are just far enough apart that they grab the web of the beam and then one person can actually tip a big beam like that over on its flanges the bar length will be about 4 to 5 ft the fingers that make up the F shape will be about 6 in and there'll be about a inch and a half gap between them this makes it a lot easier to flip a beam and if you make two sets of these bars two people can flip something like that over on its flanges

I didn't see, a plate on the red iron, How will you tie the joists to the beam?

      Rope

Each joist must have a solid anchor to the beam. If you were to wrap a rope around each joist, it would be in the way of ceiling sheet rock and the OSB sheathing on the floor.

Hard to believe that beam is 1700lb. There were a couple times 4-5 guys lifted it on one end without too much effort: 1700/2/5 = 170lb for 5 guys. We did a W10x50 that was 30ft, so 1500lb, same methodology of rollers and dollys, genie lifts, etc., and lifting it slightly was quite difficult. You guys were lifting it like it was nothing. On a side note, the beam doesn't have stiffeners? I've never done a steel beam without them. Can't believe there's no post connection welded on. Too bad they didn't through bolt some 4xs or LVLs to put the beam up in the ceiling plane.

It sits beneath a steel and brick wall so it can’t really be recessed, obviously lifting only half of the beam means less weight, but a lot of the guys are super strong for what it’s worth 🤷‍♂️ W16x68 at 25’ long
