The Rose of Raby was a real person. Her name was Cecily Neville and she lived in Raby Castle (County Durham) in her early years. She married Richard, Duke of York and she was mother of two kings - Edward IV & Richard III. Her beauty was legendary, hence the name Rose of Raby.
