This video is still doing good work. I finally picked up a Q last week. The first few days I didn't quite bond with it. I came back here after not seeing the video for like a year... And I realized that I was kinda treating the Q like a Sony in regards to exposure workflow. So I ditched the auto ISO approach (gating shutter minimum and using exposure comp) and switched to the workflows you described. Night and day difference. They really know what they're doing with imposing that exact right limitations to keep you treating it a bit more like a film camera. Now I'm getting the shots I want and it all feels very natural and correct. Zone focus tied to predictable time tested fundamentals. Thanks again!
I do like that QP over my P. especially the flat black finish and the on switch that on double click goes to Single shoot, plus the lockout for dioptre. Killer benefits over Q.
cool vid. normally I'm not a huge fan of gear videos but this one managed to explain your though process behind every setting in your camera which made it interesting. hope we will all be on the street shooting again soon. stay safe!
yeah I realized when editing the vid, that I added a reason for pretty much every damn decision I made 😂 but that's just how I operate, and I thought this would be valuable for serious photographers. thank you! you stay safe too.
Good video Ulysses, it's always nice to hear how other photographers shoot and I'm quite happy to see that my settings (on an X100T) are very close to what you describe. Now I only need go shoot when we'll be able to do so again and focus on light & composition!
While the Fuji range finder style cameras have the OVF and its handy for seeing whats outside the frame, I wish Fuji would give the EVF those frame lines as an option too. So many times I am shooting more tele like 75mm equiv. against a strongly lit scene and want that spidey-sense vision. Anyways, great video. I like this setup. 👍
I love how these tutorials show also quality, inspiring photos too! Nowt worse than tutorials with crap test shots! Have you had any issues with dust on the sensor going through the mic holes? Is it common for the Q model, read it on a few occasions, so I'm curious? Well done!
Highly appreciated! I've always hated those reviews with crappy shots. I just want to know if the you can take good pictures with the damn camera! lol no issues for now, I've covered it after I heard that it can cause issues.
Ule never know until its too late. I use those Fluor coloured see thru sticky strips to cover mic and speaker. I just peel off the mic one if I need video. Looks cool gets people asking too.
Maybe so... Maybe so... It'll probably be an underwhelming video though, as I pretty much only do very basic adjustments... the Leica Q colors are phenomenal. Hard to go back to other RAW files.
I tested jpgs before. what I can say is, they are just slightly more contrasty/colored than the DNGs. So, it's good enough for me, but to be safe I shoot DNG. B&W I'm not too sure, but I've seen good reviews. And I've been able to manipulate them well for a good B&W image.
Thank you for doing this video! Helps me tremendously! I am thinking to jump into the Leica world and I am in between the Q that you have or the Q2. I saw online the Q retails for 3600 now which is pretty good... Any thoughts? is the Q2 Worth the $5000 :O Thankyou sm!!
Hi and thanks for the video, it made me sway even more towards getting one, so thanks, I guess ;- My question to you is the following: Knowing that fixed focal lenses have an on lens depth of field guide just like the one built into the Q2 how does that workout when you are using the crop modes? A wide angle lens (in this case 28mm) has by definition more depth of field than a 75mm, so when you use the crop mode to 35mm (also my favourite all around focal length) is there a difference in depth of field than at native 28mm or does it make the DOF guide redundant? Again thanks and keep safe but keep shooting, André
Late to the party.. but just wanted to reiterate: it makes no difference. Crop mode does nothing but preview how you would crop an image in post. Think of it exactly like cropping in post. Obviously there can be no effect on the image in post because the image has already been taken. Cropping in camera is the exact same- it cannot effect lens properties.
I have a strange problem with my Leica Q. With all controls (including the aperture) set to A the aperture remains fixed at 1.7, with the other controls (ISO, shutter speed) changing with light conditions. Manually changing the aperture using the aperture ring works well, but the automatic position doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?
Seems like the DOF scale has a much narrower range compared to the M lens, and also been hearing that the DOF scale is inaccurate. Does zone focusing work well on the Q? :)
Late reply, but I had this concern too. Finally picked one up last week and so far the zone scale is quite good. I've been shooting street around NYC and it feels every bit as accurate as my Voigtlanders and such.
J J its not necessarily about the camera you use but more about the film stock you use, what time of day you are shooting at, and how you choose to expose your film. If you’re looking for more saturated colors then I would probably recommend using Kodak Ektar 100 during a bright sunny day.
No problem, no problem at all : remove your credit card from your wallet, place upon counter in camera store and state in a firm voice "I want to buy a Leica Q2".
How do you find the DOF when you are shooting at 35mm or 50mm? this is the only thing that drew me back from getting a Q. I wanted more flexibility in selecting a shallow DOF when shooting at wide apertures although on the streets I would shoot 5.6 and above
Matt Choi good question. it's just a crop, so to answer your question it's not great... but, if you shoot at 1.7, and have something in the preground, you can show some really nice Bokeh.
@@UlyssesAokiPhoto would be interesting though to know a bit more to what extent you process the raw images. I like the style and colours of your photos and am wondering how much of it is due the camera, your careful choices of subjects and colds or the processing
Cheers matey, just bought a Leica Q. Your video helped clarify a few things without having to dig into any manuals. Thanks a lot! 😊
recent got myself a Leica M10P with the Noctilux .95 50mm ... street photography is the most fun I've had in a long time! New addiction.

Just watching this. Really good job not spending huge time on stupid specs.
Great video man. It's good to get an experienced view on settings like this with the thought process behind it
Hey Framelines! :)
Thanks for the comment. Thought it'd be valuable for some people (only some!) to provide reasoning. Cheers!

Thank you very much for the info. I just bought a Leica Q and it really helps me. Arigato gozai masu.

Alex On Streets hello Alex, look at the Fuji Menu -> Shooting Settings -> Sports Finder Mode -> ON, with a little crop you have these frame lines
Mathias Beckmann ..You God. I'm gonna check this out. 😲
That's the way on the xt3, let me know if the mode is also available on the xpro3
Appreciate all the tips!
Hello Ulysses, would you have gone for the Leica Q2 instead of the Q-P? Just want to hear your opinion on this
how fast do you find AF?

@@UlyssesAokiPhoto have you been able to compare colours from Q vs Q2?
what is your jpg color profile settings? I know you probably only use your dng files but for quick transfers. standard, vivid or natural.
Great video...thanks for sharing. Subscribed and looking forward to future videos...especially Leica content!
nice job, can you tell me how about your "jpg setup" pls? thank u😀
Hi! Great video. all my doubts were answered. I just have a banal question. How did you cover the leica logo on the front? Thank you!!
The QP doesn’t have a logo.. it’s on the top plate.

Don’t think there would be any difference. The crop mode is literally zooming in on the picture so the focusing would be the same. Hope this helps

Hello! I am looking to get into a q-p but unsure how much I should pay for a used copy assuming it’s in mint condition. What’s your take on that?
Interesting . But where do you take street photos now :-))
😍 hope will Aoki make a lightroom tutorial for us..? 🎉😅
Do you have issue with your qp freezing?
could you do one for studio photography?
Thank you….very good info.
Could you make a review about your favorite spots in tokyo? Or just favorite spots to take street in general.
Great video... What settings do you use for night shots.. Iso /shutter... Thanks peace
Barely shoot at night, but I stick to ISO 800 〜 1600

There's so many other reasons to get this camera. And I'd donate my fucking liver to get a good picture. We just have different priorities.
