    Hey, I really want to quarantine corals and inverts, but I cannot as I live in a tropical country where the water can reach 114 degrees Fahrenheit. So, I can only quarantine fish. I could quarantine corals and inverts but I would need a chiller and it’s too expensive, so my parents won’t allow me to. So what should I do? Please let me know. Thanks a lot. Please reply.

    Can you help me identify a parasite? I have a video here

    I have a clownfish which shows symptoms of internal flagellates. Lost of appetite (he might take some but spits it out), getting skinny and stringy white poop. However, under the microscope the poop looks totally sterile. I see no movement of any parasite in the poop at all. (up to 400x mag). So i'm not sure what to do now. Have you any idea?

      You are more likely to see eggs in the poop than actual parasites or worms. Have you tried food soaking metronidazole and praziquantel (just in case it’s worms)?

    • @Harolddespui
      @Harolddespui 3 роки тому +1

      @@HumblefishReef Food soaking won't do it (doesn't eat enough) and antibiotics are banned from the lfs here in Europe.
      I send emails to some specialized vets with the question if i should see flagellites in the poo or just eggs. Thanks for helping!

      @@HumblefishReef According vets you will defenitely see worms or flagellates in the poop when the fish is seriously infected, so not only eggs.
      In my case, where i don't see anything that moves, it could be a bacterial infection which might only be visible with an expensive microscope (+1000x).

      @@Harolddespui Albendazole, Flubendazole and Mebendazole are all possible treatments for internal flagellates if those can be sourced in lieu of Metronidazole in Europe.

      @@Harolddespui Seachem Focus contains nitrofurantoin, which has some efficacy against internal infections if you can get that.
      My friends in the UK primarily use Waterlife Myxazin or NT Labs Acriflavin for treating bacterial diseases.

    ? for you. I lost all but one fish (bar goby) to velvet. I did 40 days QT like you mentioned before adding fish to my DT. The fish were great for 3 months and I broke down my QT tank. Days later, I added corals and snails. Within days, my fish started dropping and within a week, only the goby was left. My reef is fully loaded and there is no way to break it down to get that goby, who never got velvet. What am I to do? I’m thinking of waiting 3 months, doing a QT for 30 days fallow (except for the goby)on new fish and adding to see if it works. What’s your thoughts?

    Is polyp medic effective on ich?
    And you mention you can dose metroplex every 48 hours, so is that include a full water change of the quarantine tank or 50% water change and then dose ?

    • @HumblefishReef
      @HumblefishReef  9 місяців тому

      Not really. Medic is peroxide salts which seems to be more effective against “surface” parasites such as velvet or brook than ich (which is more deeply embedded.)
      It is ideal to do a water change before redosing metro, but not completely necessary.

    The thumbnail is like my tank before UV. Great video by the way. Much less ambiguous than many fish disease videos.

    Hello humblefish. I recently followed your QT process to the T. I QT all my fish in therapeutic copper @ 2.5ppm for 4 weeks. I left my display fallow with a heater to (81 or 82?) for 6 weeks using two different thermometers to be as precise as possible with the heat. When I did water changes on my QT I always had a match copper level so it wouldn't drop. I put black mollies into my DT for 2 weeks, no spots. Thought I had the green light. Fish went back in....ich again....no corals were added during this time of fallow. Tonight 8/5 my French angel is swimming infront on a ph on and off. All my fish still eat like pigs. No change in diet. Out of my 10+ fish. Only 2 have what I expect is ich. All the others are asymptomatic. What do I do?! I feel defeated. Wife hates it when I set up a QT. Takes up space in the house that we use for my new born. I assume just try it again?? I'm afraid of velvet...but my fish have had spots for weeks. Just been doing to the mana method, but I got scared when I saw my angel swimming for the ph.

      Now I know you can't dose copper in a reef. Is it possible to pull coral out and dose with anything else that won't annihilate bacteria? I'm afraid copper with, and the rocks will soak it in and won't come back out. Really trying to think of something. Pulling coral is way easier than fish

      Did you eliminate all anaerobic regions while going fallow in the DT? Read this: humble.fish/community/index.php?threads/fallow-periods-going-fishless.32/#post-1120

      @@HumblefishReef My only guess was the sump? I turned all my powerheads up for additional flow, and the return. There was still "dead corners" but I did my best to turkey bast them daily. I also did the rock work as mentioned I believe in one of your articles to remove any on hard surfaces. I do believe the method can work and does. I just got extremely unlucky.
