Albertan here, that's wonderful to hear! I think the conversation of climate change has become alarmist and so are our responses to it. A lot of Alberta is pushing towards Hydrogen and a very smart person from BC has gotten some very positive results for breaking CO2 back into hydrocarbons so we can start pulling CO2 out of the atmosphere and inject it back into our old dry wells to rebalance the rock pressure. I think this should be our mission with climate change, not to accept our "fate". We can correct humanity's past and become extremely wealthy doing it while providing clean, cheap, and reliable energy to the world.

What work does Alberta do? They mine the tar sand for their Chinese masters which could never happen if BC wasn't forced to have the pipelines to get it to China. Our ports supply your goods. BC gets it's gas from Washington State.

Actually, Quebec doesn't just benefit from equalization, they also, at least at one time, were the top earning province outside of Alberta that benefitted form the oil sands, from companies in Quebec up in Alberta doing work, to technology from Quebec companies being used in all kinds of processes, machine shops making precision parts for equipment and systems, and people from Quebec up here working and sending money home.

In it's most simplistic form, what we're seeing is the Liberal government buying votes in Quebec using money they steal from Alberta. Quebec always tries to justify that they are deserving of the handout they get, but the reality is that the equalization program is very, very broken. It is neither fair nor equal. Especially when the current Liberal federal government is going out of its way to cripple Alberta industry, but still grabbing that same industry's profits to hand out to Quebec. The Liberals know where they can get the most value out of vote buying, and that is Quebec, closely followed by Ontario. Sort of like the old American beef with the Brits about taxation without representation... we're in a very similar sort of situation.

However Danielle Smith has accomplished and/or working on a huge amount of what she has promised already. Even Poilievre will be using some of her successes in his plan, or so he said publicly. She has found out that in government there are too many steps and too much paperwork to get anything done fast and her gov't has been successful in eliminating some provincial paperwork requirements. Check out the gov't successes in the past year...its all available online. I formerly worked for govt and saw it go from ease of work to totally complicated...constantly recreating the same thing with more work😮. Her caucus is completely on her side. We have the best Premier in all of Canada, Scott Moe's is next! Kenney got bought out! If you don't like how she works maybe you should try for the job yourself.
LOOK, it's easy to claim the resources of Alberta as "your" own instead of as part of a whole... Canada. The thing is, eastern Canada was settled first. As such, the resources were exploited and depleted in those areas first. Think coal reserves, fisheries, lumber, etc. What you forget is those areas paved the way to establish a system that allowed the West to become part of a thriving union when they had yet to develop. So, now that you have, you want to bail. Don't forget about all the infrastructure in place within the province that was developed and established with tax dollars from ALL parts of the country. If you secede, you owe. It's not as easy as just walking away. Ask Quebec. We need to work together, to bolster each other, trade with each other first, outside the country second. Alberta is a province rich in resources, you just need someone in Ottawa who puts all Canadians first. God willing, that is soon. That comment by and of itself clearly illustrates that you have zero understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Federal government versus the Proviincial governments. The Feds, under Trudeau, have made way too much effort to reach into domains that they are not supposed to be operating in or influencing, while at the same time doing a pi$$ poor job of the federal responsibilities they should be handling.
Alberta has accepted equalization payments, they have also received billions in farming and energy resource subsidies. They benefit from federal rules on logging and they depend entirely on Canadians from other provinces to provide workers for all of these industries. The fact is that Alberta is in the position it is because they sell their meat, grain, oil and lumber to Canadians outside of Alberta. I completely agree there are major issues with Quebec and a bit of an issue with the maritimes but most other provinces (especially Ontario) were contributing FAR, FAR more to Canada’s economy than they receive in equalization payments or than Alberta does.

The twinning will send some crude to the small refinery in Burnaby BC and then diverts to Washington State. You really need to educate yourself rather than believe Alberta is some oil giant. BC is a booming economy with international reach. Alberta is a land locked single resource economy owned by foreigners like China.

Western Canada gets so few benifits that it mart as well go it on it's own. Alberta was at 56% in favor. Sask 53% BC 44% Man 35% Again all were trending upwards since 2010.

So we work more to create more taxes so they can be shoveled away to provinces that shut down projects and keep their people unemployed? Hmmm. Yeah it's not working the way it was supposed to. And then the federal government blocks our projects so we cannot make more.....

Funny how Alberta criticized Quebec back in the day for wanting to leave Canada. I'd like to see the 51st state leave as Smith has that Americano flavor and the rest of us don't want that! America is a pathetic entity and Alberta fits right in.

Whats funny is the environics institute poll. Canada pulling together or drifting apart. 1987-2019 All four western provinces trending upwards on the question. Western Canada gets so few benifits that it mart as well go it on it's own.
Alberta was at 56% in favor.
Sask 53%
BC 44%
Man 35%
Again all were trending upwards since 2010.
ill vote quebec out. let all Canadians vote next time.
