I only play games solo and am so pleased to have stumbled on your channel (watched your B-17 play through. Informative and helpful style and content. EXELLENT. Would just loved to get a glimpse, of how to handle the AI in the doomsday solo variant, because i have some trouble, how and where to start the AI

Move those Colony Ships (one anyway) out to a hex in anticipation of your Scout's discovering a Planet! Plus you now know where the Balck Hole is, so (ALL of) your ships are safe to explore AND send your Miner out to start collecting!

Great look at the game, Al. In the past we've crossed paths on various sports game boards, but I like war games and civ-building games, too. I lived for the old Civilization 2 PC game. Now looking for board game like Space Empires, I think. Simple, fun, but with a fair amount of depth and combat. How does it compare to, say, Terraforming Mars? (If you played it.) Thanks.

Curious, though, about your setup. You gave yourself three individual Scouts, but your Shipyards were designated with the numerical counter instead. I do not see anything in the setup rules about doing this.

Good video with good information. I've been eyeballing this game for a while, but don't know if my gaming friends would be up for it. The solo option looks like it is nicely put together.

Nice review, Al. Have you ever tried Twilight Imperium? I have the Third Edition, set it up one time, but quickly learned it wouldn't be enjoyable solo.

You do know that there is a VG called Space Empires, they have 5 iterations of it.
I subbed because you have a good pace to your thoroughness. In the past I've realised I will enjoy a game and stop watching a slower paced video that teaches the basics, just buy it and read the manual instead.
On this video I had 2 curiosities. What exactly is 4x and will the game be all combat or no combat? I didn't expect the 4x answer to be here but it was! I didn't expect this game to engage me on theme. Or bring me close to space IPs like Legend of the Galactic Hero's or Star Wars. I gave up on that and just need to scratch the space itch. I like strategy and combat but hate it being center stage. Love exploration but don't care if my opponent is gonna get more space-food or deliver more moon-flakes. I want a tech tree but I don't want to reference it with more than a quick glance.
So you can see why I was really happy that you are quick and clear with words, thorough in explanations and give note to the intricacies that will come up later when they become relevant. That kind of foreshadowing is a great technique that kept me watching even after I decided I needed to buy it next.

Hi i know it is old, but with what did You do the round corners? i tried with my corner rounder but it is too weak for the 2mm cardboard :(
How, with space-faring technology, does one just stumble into a black hole?
When you do maintenance, SHIPYARDS don't do ?

Have you had a look at the expansions?
The expansions (especially the first one, Close Encounters) are must haves. My favorite solo gaming. There's a video on the Gamerati channel where I discuss all the stuff that's added on with the expansions. I also wrote a Master Rule Book (with the designer's permission) that includes all the rules from both expansions so you could take a look at what you'd get before dropping any money.
