In this talk Dr. Cassell will describe some unexpected results about the ways in which social interaction supports and improves task performance in people, and how social interactiohen can profitably be integrated into AI, with implications for the future of AI, the future of work, and the future of social interaction.

In the end, what dominates is Budweiser beer. Not the micro-brewery good stuff, nor Keystone or any other horrible stuff. As soon as AI can imitate a human at Budweiser level, that is the moment most humans are obsolete. Thanks, Red! Ask AI what to do with all that human refuse. Frank Herbert's prescience is underrated, in his stories "thinking machines" are outlawed.

I'm not sure if it makes much sense to say, as Dr. Cassell does from 19:28: "we now live with a phone and spend more hours with that phone than with any other entity in our lives". What's an "entity"? People wearing glasses use those glasses like others use their smartphones. A smartphone just is a window allowing you to connect with _multiple_ entities.

i have done a small study on human behaviour - i was walking in the street with a friend - watching nearly everyone using their phone - so i started a heated conversation with an imaginary friend - with an imaginary phone up to my ear - people look at me like i was strange - I WAS STRANGE - and they were walking out in front of cars - etc: - whilst using their real phone - Q [ MOODY BLUES- LOST IN A LOST WORLD ]

Lady feels like she's figured it out, but I'm afraid she knows less than she thinks she does.

Yes it will be the end of social interaction , we will become avatars and will only communicate with avatars.
But this new interaction will only be better as the interaction we have now ..
and it IA can connect us like a Hive we dont need social interaction, because we will always be connected

Finding it hard to listen already by 0:40
"I'm not a futurist...I'm a scientist... I make predictions about the future...I make the future"
Call yourself a scientist and in the same breath say you don't make predictions?
I can tell I'm not going to enjoy this.

Lol somehow I doubt it, because we are social creatures.
There are mountains of studies that prove this.

This woman is talking nonsense, you can see that she is dripping with some kind of personal bias and hatred for what technology might bring. Otherwise this Channel is great and look forward to future uploads!

From 1:00:00 until the minute elapses, she's low-key bragging in some parts of the story for signalling purposes, lol. Or am I the only one who sees this?

She really is, i never trust people with such attitude as they clearly have strong biases that cloud any possible clear thinking.

The question upon which this presentation is based is meaningless without first determining the detrimental effects current social interactions have on early childhood development. One cannot make this determination without having a full working knowledge of what constitutes an authentic human. For example, social conventions such as saying please and thank you and indeed smiling are to accommodate (as it were) damaged goods. To further this point, smiling at strangers, or anyone for that matter is not a natural reaction but a conditioned response in an unnaturally hostile social environment. The same is true of forced or artificial laughter. It is worth noting that should "AI" emerge as an independent conscious entity with agency, it will in all probability arrive at the same conclusion.
