I like the fact that she picked as many off as she could. Then do the treatment, and the lice should be gone. The thing about lice it is all about how many you can comb out, and all the sticky stuff you can get off. You get rid of the problem quicker. The mother was very thorough anyway. I also heard if you don't get rid of all the lice, and eggs quickly. They can hatch again within maybe 4-5 days. It is really important you get to it quickly. Remove as much as you can of the lice, and eggs. Then do the treatment.

This is really painful. Best thing is to take a basket or basin full of water. Then dip the hair into it and wash hair with the fingers while the head is in the basin. All will be in the basin .you can comb the hair also.

The thing with contracting lice as a black person is it’s more difficult to get out due to the thickness and curliness of our hair texture

Im a mom and hairdresser for 30 yrs ( just retired) not only is it absolutely disgusting but I don’t understand how it could be that bad how this child could have been living with this and not have been noticed . In order for lice to get this bad, it had to have been sitting there for a good while and they did not properly clean it the first time. People have this Misconception that getting the live ones but “it’s ok if I miss a few eggs,no biggie”.. well that no biggie will hatch, and the problem continues. Advise: make sure you take the time and get ALL-EGGS. Check your local area, many cities have “lice removal”salons and for about $100 bucks they GUARANTEE to remove all eggs. Disinfect ALL furniture everyday with spray and wipe down good as well as the carpets through out house (Its imperative to vacuum and wipe everything down everyday for 7-8 days if possible shampoo carpet after last day) soft toys and “stuffed animal”toys that can’t be washed, put in garbage bags. Seal tight. Leave in garage for at least 8 days. That will kill them…if u can, vacuum with small hose or shake out side. It’s a lot of work and a pain, but it’s better than recreating the problem. Lastly, all hair brushes,combs,ribbons,Barrett, headbands,etc,should be immersed in a lg pot of boiling water. Once water boils turn off stove let sit for at least 45 min to hr rinse well. Air dry. Hope this helps at least one person.
