    Bansuri Q & A Episode 011: How To Play The High Notes
    QUESTION:
    “Higher notes are such a frustration when the notes don’t come out good. How do you play them well without the airy sound?”
    Tushar Bhattacharya - USA
    ANSWER:
    (1) Blow Harder. Use not just your mouth, but also your diaphragm.
    (2) Adjust the angle of your blow to determine the precise positioning that minimizes unwanted sounds.
    (3) Practice, practice, practice. Spend more time in the high notes. Here is a practice: go to the first note that gives you trouble; play that and the notes immediately beneath it for several minutes minimum. Once that high note improves, move up the scale one note and repeat. Continue going up the scale and expanding your range of notes you can play well to ensure you can play a sonically pleasing High Pa (the highest note you must be able to play).

      Awesome. Happy birthday. What’s your plan for learning bansuri? Note that C is the key/tonic. You can play an infinite number of scales on the bansuri.

      @@bansuribliss Thank you sir for answering my question. Actually what I wanted to ask is that I have a A5=880Hz, C5# scale bamboo bansuri can I play C6# and higher notes on this bansuri means the next octave. I just started learning bansuri recently and hope my question makes sense. I purchases it from a local vendor near my home but when I play SA on it, the tuner is showing C5# and I know around three octaves can be played on a bansuri.

      Hi Sundeep. I go up to high high Komal Ga. My guru Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao went up to high high Ma. Most bansuri playing takes place between low and high Pa.

    • @bansuribliss
      @bansuribliss  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Sundeep, my first response had typos, so I have re-written it. I actually don;t think much about western frequencies as you mention. You can play as high or as low a flute as you want. Always make sure you can play from low Pa to high Pa on any flute

    Thank you for the advice, what I find confusing is when you said to blow harder to play higher notes. I found that blowing harder doesn't make a nice tone, closing your embouchure hole make the air go with more speed and pressure. I am a beginner and I am experimenting with higher notes. Do you change the size of your lips hole also or you just play harder. Just wondering Thank you for your videos and sorry for my English but is not my first language. Peace Jere

    • @bansuribliss
      @bansuribliss  3 роки тому +2

      Don’t think too much. Just play the highest note you can comfortably play then move up to the next note and practice it until it comes. Then repeat the process all the way up to High Pa.

      @@bansuribliss sounds good thank you for the tip :)

    • @axelmont
      @axelmont 4 місяці тому

      To be fair, blowing harder is necessary but it only goes so far. You can get red in the face blowing but if your embouchure is not right you won't get nice high notes.
      I only began getting nice sounds and reaching the higher notes of the register when I began experimenting not only with blowing harder but with different subtle ways to shape the lips and tighten the embouchure. Also consistent practice and muscle memory are key. But this comment was 3 years ago so I guess you already figured it out :)

      I play hundreds of scales, but none have a single letter as a name. Do you mean you want me to play on a flute and set Sa (the key/root/tonic) at C?

    it is very difficult to give Ga high, discovered that if you play the closed first two holes and the latter then falls perfectly on a high Ga.How much to play correctly? Is it worth it to get used to or better to achieve the standard version?
    очень сложно даётся Ga высокая,открыл для себя что если играть закрытые первые два отверстия и последнее то попадает идеально на высокое Га.На сколько так правильно играть?стоит ли привыкать или лучше добиваться стандартного варианта?

      I think thats depends on the bansuri. I make my high pa with only 2 fingers on the left hand. Its more in tune.

    In my bansuri I can play until the third Dha. Above this the notes sounds higher and out of tune
