There is no shame in your game. You are just giving us an honest assessment of the way you live. You are miles ahead of most folks whether you are completely off grid or not. I think y'all are doing a great thing there. God Bless you and your entire family

I liked your message. I am also in a wheelchair, I have been for years. I changed my diet 2 years ago yesterday. Still in the wheelchair but still hopeful. Congratulations to both of you. I see that your videos are a couple of years old. I hope you're both maintaining good health. I have followed you on Facebook and Instagram and will go over and look for updated pictures on your garden. I think you've done a really good job on this channel and I'm sorry that it ended.

You definitely have the right attitude. You are more self sufficient than most. So many that dive in too far all at once, end up feeling overwhelmed or just totally discouraged. Life is about finding a peaceful and healthy balance. You are providing your children with that balance.

You gotta do what's right for your family always... Amen! :) We're moving this weekend to begin our journey of more self sustainable life, not off grid either (yet) but it's a start for us too...sooo excited, a small bit of temporary land to practice and gain skills, chickens and better health for us all! Looking forward to more videos from y'all. :)

Great attitude, Love the idea, did I miss it, how much land do you have, enough the reach your goals?
I know about health, nearly 25 operations in my life, both knees replaced, 4 back fusion, shoulder replaced, Pain pump installed (delivers narcotics - hydromorphone) degenerative bone disease, and more... I wish I were able to get around like I did when young, I'm 69 now and have gone down pretty quick.... I hate it.....

Thank you for this informative video! You are so right that one really has to assess their strengths and weakness! I have physical disabilities that would be impossible for me to go totally off grid but I do have backup plans should we have a total melt down of this country. Blessings

That's an issue I wanted to address on our channel - the reality is that off-grid= limitations. We now have solar power (New videos) that can be used grid tie or off-grid. We also have major health issues, and it is limiting. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing. I have a bit of a problem sometimes with the off grid way of thinking... It is like it is supposed to be some sort of religion, or something... We have electricity at the bottom of our property, almost two miles down the road...but we don't have city power where we live...just alternative energy. So, I guess we don't deserve calling ourselves off-gridders... :-) But, I think to myself...and I care about this why...?I don't... I believe more in the term "homesteader". Our goal with our property is not to hide from people, or be A-social... We love our Maker's creation, the peace and quiet in the evening while watching the sunset... Listening to the birds through the sound of the leaves on the trees in the breeze... This is what it is all about for us. Yeah, I work from home and am connected to the Internet...and we have power on our property, while we in a sense are off grid people where we live. It does not at all matter to us what other people think, or want to be a part of... We love our life, no matter what it is called...living on our homestead together..with our animals. And, we love sharing our experiences with anyone we meet.
It seems like there is being established more and more a core "clique" among off grid people on UA-cam spreading their off grid "religion"..and we don't want any part of it. We love our life that we are blessed to have.
Just because you have a homestead, it does not mean that you have to live in the 19th century... People speak about SHTF scenarios, etc on UA-cam all the time...so why not enjoy some extra comfort/luxury as long as we have it :-)
All the best to you guys and your family. Shalom!

I've had a lot of experience living off grid. It's romantic looking from the outside but damn HARD WORK to live it. We had a well on our property that my husband built a windlas for, but it took modern technology to do that. It meant however that we could pull up 5 gallon buckets of water easily rather than injuring our hands on the rope and wheel pully that we replaced. You have no idea how heavy 2 gallons of water can be on a rope pully well.
Your hands get raw and bleeding when you have to wash clothes for 5 people a couple times a week. The laundromat becomes a blessing...rapidly.
We were just getting started with some livestock..rabbits and chickens, when the neighbors dogs found their way in and ripped the birds apart and pulled rabbits tthrough the wire cages they were in.
The garden had to be watered by hand. DH pulled up a thousand gallons of water per day. In semi arid climate, it wasn't nearly enough. And then a cloud burst washed the well away making it unsafe to use.
I loved cooking on a wood stove and mine even had the warming ovens and water jacket. It took a couple of hours to get the thing up to temperature..it was a very old stove..not efficient like the ones they build today. But it still took a truck and chainsaw, oil, bar lube and gas, to go 20 miles to cut wood. We had 3 stoves to feed in that drafty old house.
It took an hour to get to the nearest hospital in an emergency, and that's only if the tures don't go flat. Dirt roads are horribly hard on tires, even brand new ones. Horse and buggy wasn't efficient. When things go wrong off grid, the impact is much greater than you can images due to the cascading effect and the nature off the beast. There's romance, and reality but reality is much more powerful.

Aww, that sounds so sweee.... 8:00 *ticks?!* 😱 Deep Woods Off. Seriously, though (well, seriously I carry Deep Woods Off or knock-off brand), that flu bomb vid brought me here. That's great stuff. Thanks for not excluding generators because _climate control_ 'n stuff. We have a few greenhouses and a spring. Turns out I'm scared of creepy crawlies so, I just watch vids like this 😂 Thanks though.

I do not have data to support this hypothesis. I have found that ticks do not care for sunblock. When I go pick blackberries, wearing long sleeves and heavy pants, putting sunblock on arms, legs and "those places that ticks love to go hide" deters the ticks. So far, brand of sunblock does not matter. We have deer and wild turkey on our place and we do not keep chickens (too many raccoons and coyotes). We certainly have ticks. Try the sunblock.

ticks: get some guinea hens. they love them! they will clear your land for you. You owe no one any explanation for the life you choose to live. If you are already seeing progress in your health, good for you! You must be doing "something right". :-)

Off grid should mean no utillity's electricity from a state sponsored monopoly. Same for gas. But use your own propane. No SMART METERS. Water filtering is critical. City water suppliers do not test for pesticides, fertilizers petroleum products. Chlorine or chloramines are necessary for biologically treating water. But remove them before you drink the water. Yeah everybody has their own definition of off grid.
