Actually, a heliocentric model was proposed by Aristarchus of Samos around 400 BC. That this did not gain wide acceptance was less from Greek intellectual stodginess or timidity, but due to the fact that the observations did not fit: since the Greeks were unable to conceive that motions in the heavens would be anything other than the 'perfect' circle! Makes you wonder what essential facts about the universe (or humanity) we may be missing today due to our unwillingness to discard certain assumptions!
Planet, Dwarf Planet, Minor Planet. These are just words that humans invented. Terms of convenience. Developing emotional attachment to one classification or another is beyond stupidity. These things are what they are.
Pluto is Planet 9 Eris is Planet 10 Another one will be (Planet 11) (not yet observed) And all others bodies aren’t planets (Ceres, Chiron, and all TNOs : Haumea MakeMake Quaoar Sedna Gonggong etc.)
great video! i really enjoyed the way you broke down the concepts. but honestly, i can't help but wonder if we're overestimating how many planets might actually support life. i mean, with all the extremophiles we have on Earth, it's possible that life could adapt in ways we can't even imagine, right?
It comes down to what are we willing to call a planet. I would include dwarf planets so... several dozen planets so far. Likely hundreds or thousands by the time we finish cataloging the Kuiper belt.
Yes, some ancient Greek thinkers like Aristarchus of Samos did suggest that the Sun was at the center, but most people back then believed in the Earth-centered model. It took a long time for the idea to become widely accepted. Thanks for sharing!
Pluto has not cleared its orbit because it intersects that of Neptune. Why is it not seen as Neptune has not cleared its orbit cause Pluto is still there?
The key difference is that Neptune's gravity controls Pluto's orbit, not the other way around. This is why Neptune is considered to have 'cleared its orbit,' while Pluto is classified as a dwarf planet. Pluto is also much smaller and part of a group of similar objects in the Kuiper Belt, unlike Neptune, which dominates its path around the Sun. Thanks for watching!

Good point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
And you believe we're the only beings in our gallaxy!
Yes I believe so
Where are they !?
Well, the universe is full of possibilities.
@ yes true
Who would be interested in us anyway ( if ) there is someone out there
Everything is too far away Anything we see flying, the origin is earth

Pluto is not yet a planet there’s still space between Neptune and Pluto of gravitational pull orbiting our sun others are orbiting a yellow dwarf star
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! However, Pluto and Eris are officially classified as dwarf planets.

Great video and information !

Yes, the Kuiper Belt alone could have hundreds or even thousands of them. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
2:39 the greeks DID figure sun was the center of the solar system but it didnt catch on.

We've researched Planets. Researching Dwarf Planets is a lot more exciting
Dwarf planets have so many unique features that make them super interesting to study. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@InsaneCuriosity Happy to comment on great content.
Forget Mars, first person to walk on a Dwarf Planet.
Dwarves to be found on dwarf planets.

What caused the Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter?
20:00 I see a dog chasing a ball on that planet
😂
Pluto as a Moon.
5 I believe. Because of that it should be called a planet
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Their are plenty of planets that DO NOT orbit the sun (exoplanets). Pluto is a Double-Planet!!
Pluto, it's considered a dwarf planet. But some people do call it a double-planet system. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Excellent video
Thanks ☺
To douchey of a voice for Sleepytime music, right?
Putting way too much inflection on every sentence = super annoying
The more we see, the more we understand, that we DON’T understand👨🏿⚕️🤓keep searching🔭👏🏿👏🏿🦠💉😷 We need to refine our technology ie telescopes 🔭.
Absolutely. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Calling Ceres an asteroid was an insult.
Its an astéroïde
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
💫🪐☄️☀️
Thanks for watching!
This damn video is just so repetitive, I had to stop watching it lol omg terrible terrible.
None - there are no planets at all.
Pluto and Eris are
Appreciate your point of view. Thanks for watching!
