Wow! I was permanent party at Ft Sam in the 80's. No doubt it was easy duty for me, but AIT students lived in WWII barracks. We live in nice two man rooms, but nothing like this! Good luck with school and your Army career. Stick it out, 20 years goes by a lot faster than you think.

Spent time in Fort Sam in 1968 in the 250th General Hospital of the 4th Army. We had a building called the Garrison, a big white building with an open bay, no individual rooms, just like 50 guys sleeping in bunk beds, no privacy at all and one big shower room... Times have changed!

Things certainly have changed, but then again I went through 91A School (old Army medic MOS) back in the Summer of '73.
We lived in open bays, with about 2-3 dozen other people and had community latrines. On the good side, the barracks were practically brand new as we were only the second cycle to go through.
AIT was a bit of a shock after Basic as there was no PT, KP or Saturday inspections. We went to the field (Camp Bullis) for only one day and it wasn't even overnight. You'd have fire guard once every few weeks and guard duty about every two months.
We'd march to class in the morning and afternoon, march back for chow and after dismissal (about 1600 or 1700) your time was your own.
Looking back, I felt it was far too easy physically. No PT? No field training? Seriously?
Anyway, I hope your service time is a positive experience for you like it was for me.
    Good luck.

@@michaelmurdock7331 I'm going through the course right now. If you have an associates degree that's good, cause then if and when you finish ait, you can challenge the registry to become an licensed rad tech. After the AIT you'll be able to get another associates with the credits that they give you from AIT that can transfer over to college in addition to taking a couple more classes with the college. Pretty good deal
