of the government of national unity with the DA and other parties.
Mbalula says at the moment the party has not reached an agreement and

IFP''s press conference gave us more clarity than the ANC's press conference... that is telling of the political gridlock within the former ruling party. It seems to me that the NEC of the ANC was more interested in the optics of conveying a direction rather than a genuine attempt to take us into their confidence about the direction they leaning towards and being willing to defend that position. The centre is not holding!

The thing is the ANC got to used to talking in circles full of unclear phrases and spin doctoring that even regular questions leaves you with nothing of value. It's the style of the organisation which occurred over time. If you compare them to the leaders of the organisation of a two decades or more ago you see the massive articulation gap and thinking chasm between them.

Also, a conversation must be had about the impact of presidential centralism that has dominated SA politics since the Mbeki days. It may be argued that under President Ramaphosa, executive power has for all intense and purposes shifted from Cabinet to the Presidency with the consequence of having hollow and ineffective departments (a conversation for another day). How will a coalition agreement seek to remedy this trend, while accepting the kind of constitutional power vested in the president? After all our constitution did not envision this moment.
