Trey! What amp did you use? The f sounds amazing! I got one of the balaguer diablo baritones (the cerulean blue one) from the limited run and it has their own hypernova pickups and I'm in drop f as well. 7 string.
Honestly, what happened to your last guitar is the exception to what Balaguer usually produces. You're the only person I know of that's ever had an issue with them and Joe stepped in, apologized, and offered to fix it for you after what happened which speaks to how much they care about their quality. One of these days, when I have the money, I want to pull the trigger on a Balaguer. It'll happen sooner or later.
I know it wouldn’t be your dream one but I was messing around and in early 2022 you can go for all of the cheapest options and get one for $1200-$1300. Same price as your cheapest American made guitars.
I can't put down my Balaguer, it's just too much fun to play! I have a 30 inch Espada with an evertune and I'm in my 3rd month waiting for a 27 with a hipshot hardtail. They make killer guitars 🤘🏼
That has got to be the most badass user experience in ordering a guitar I've ever seen. I hear more and more about this company and I'm honestly incredibly impressed by everything I've seen and heard from them
When you were doing the selections on the builder I definitely was one of those people thinking “why is Trey picking bland options?” But now that it’s here, I’m eating my words. What a beautiful instrument!! Congrats man 🤘🏽
@@ophhate I'd say yes. I have one of the limited run baritone diablo 7 strings. It's my best guitar. But my 3 other guitars are 2 agiles 8 and 9 strings, and a solar 6 string. They are all good to me but the balaguer is my highest spec guitar. Swamp ash body, roasted maple neck (all my guitars are mahogany) , ebony board (all my guitars have ebony boards), hot passives, hipshot bridge, locking tuners.
They only do 16" radius fingerboards so I had to move on. and no fret size/material options, just medium jumbo SS. With all the other options they offer, I don't understand why they leave those out.
NGD is awesome almost no matter what it is. Doesn't need to be an expensive boutique axe to give me that smile like you have in the second half of this vid 🙂
So glad you went with the ebony fretboard. I was about to cringe out if you went with the maple. It just didn't look right with the white and black. And that Bareknuckle aftermath is fukn ridiculous! Sounds fukn brutal!
Nothing is perfect, but Joe definitely stands by his work unlike other guitar companies. And their guitars play really good so the wait time and Joe's attention to detail are worth it.
Looks and sounds great, but not really a fair redemption. It should have been a specialty finish IMO. You can’t really fuckup white and black. Then again not my money and I’m just a rando on the inter webs.
I recently got an ESP E-II full thickness. It's probably the best feeling guitar I have ever picked up. Damn thing has pick-up rings and it drives me absolutely nuts.
Absolutely, I think I'm just a stickler for variety in tones, but when you want just an absolute riff machine, I totally get why you'd do that. Looking forward to hearing some originals with it!
Bare Knuckle are my favorite pick ups by far. I put a set of Rebel Yell in my PRS Custom 24, and a Riff-Raff / Mule mixed set in my Les Paul. They both Roar!
I get what you mean about having a gloss neck, but as someone who owns guitars with both satin and gloss neck guitars, I barely notice the gloss after I've played it in for a while. Obviously I notice the differences jumping in between a gloss and a satin neck, but both feel great in equal measure.
Dude! What timing. I ordered a 27" baritone from Balaguer too, and it's coming ANY DAY NOW. I can't contain myself. What gauge string setup did you go with? I didn't catch that in the video. I went with 14-68.
@@treyxaviermusic Ok sweet. I'm thinking of keeping mine in C#/DropB. First baritone, 40th birthday gift. I picked the hardware and told my wife and kids to pick color and shape. I'm a madman
Would absolutely love a Balaguer, but firstly don’t think my skill level is currently just for a custom built guitar, plus Australia’s exchange rate pretty much doubles the cost of one. But awesome pick Trey, looks wicked.
Very nice! I had a squier jim root tele, white (sold for $ to move), and ever since then I have a thing for white guitars. Now I really need a white tele with a trem...
Hey, so sorry to hear about your issue about the guitars, still an amazing video that doesnt fail to make life a little less painful, thanks for everything Trey.
7:46 "why would ever not get 24 frets?" because of the neck pickup placement. If you want that super creamy tone on a "standard" scale guitar, you have to omit those last 2 frets from the neck.
What string gauge you use? I play 28 and 29,7 scale guitars in drop F# and it seems 27 is doing the job just fine. Sick guitar! Thinking about getting white baritone espada soon.
Balaguer has very nice models and they look like very solid instruments, but more than 2k per instrument made in South Korea, I don't doubt the quality but for that price you already get something Made in the USA, which doesn't depreciate in the same way as a Korean one whether custom or not; but it is an opinion, as always on this channel they make very good content and thanks for your work!
Is this a joke? “They failed so badly at doing the finish last time, this time we’ll order a solid colour so that isn’t a possibility and I can claim that’s proof that previous fuck up was a one off!” No. How about you order the same or similar so we can actually see if that was a one off mistake rather than tossing them a meatball to swing at and misleading your viewers by claiming this overpriced, middling quality,“custom shop” guitar is anything other than an overpriced, middling quality guitar.
Hey Trey, you didn't speak to the new guitar weight wise? I believe the standard ash they use is the heaviest wood they offer for the last build + the evertune. Was this one considerably lighter and felt more like a standard weight?
A little less adventurous on the options, but still a nice beast. One change I would have REALLY liked to see: a Cocobolo fretboard. Pretty obnoxious pick-up tone... not bad.
Honest preferences please. I've been playing in drop c and d standard tuning for the best part of a decade now on 24.75 and 25.5 inch scale guitars. What tuning would I have to go down to before I start thinking about using a baritone scale guitar ?? Been considering it for a while now.
Option paralysis. I can’t stand it. That’s why I like Kiesel for their in-stock section. “Here’s a guitar we came up with. Look at it.” I bought mine from there and wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Wanted to order one but what the flying fuck are those shipping costs if you're outside the US???!! They charge 700 USD to ship to Canada!!! By comparison, Kiesel charges less than 150. EDIT: Balaguer reached out, it was a glitch and they fixed it

Simple builds sometimes look the best
The single bridge pickup look is a seriously underrated aesthetic in guitars.
Nicely done! I've been a Balaguer Artist 2017. They RARELY make mistakes and Joe ALWAYS makes good on them.
