      No this is called a mash shuffle. Just look up riffle shuffle on youtube to see an actual riffle shuffle.

      It can be considered as stacking a deck though.

  • @phillewis3180
    @phillewis3180 5 років тому +16

    That’s mash shuffling. It’s not as random as rifle shuffling but it’s close enough. Mash shuffling gives an almost even distribution of cards every mash. Rifle shuffling sorts cards in groups of three, two and one if executed correctly. This gives more randomness. However, mash shuffling can ruin sleeves where rifle shuffling can crease cards. There is a method of rifle shuffling that doesn’t bend your cards. It involves applying pressure on the deck with your index finger and moving your thumbs along the sides of your cut in half deck. It is harder to do with double sleeves but double sleeves decrease the chance of cards getting bent and/or creased. Great video though! Mash and rifle shuffling are the best ways to randomize your deck! It should be done 7 times on a 50 card deck and 9 times on a 60 card deck. Good luck with your games! 😃

    It's important to note that pile shuffling is not a shuffle, but is closer to sorting. MTG banned it as a shuffle, but you can use it to count the number of cards in your deck. This is b/c there's a ton of cheating methods that all use the pile shuffle to effectively stack your deck right in front of your opponent.

  • @themastermind9876
    @themastermind9876 6 років тому +2

    The thing about "pile shuffling" is that it's a misnomer. It's not that it isn't doing much, it does nothing and cannot be random unless the deck you're using was random when you started. With complete knowledge, it's stacking.
    Glad to see this kind of video, though

    That's actually NOT a riffle shuffle. That's what's called a mash shuffle, and as soon have already pointed out, that's not nearly as randomized or as good as a riffle shuffle. I know this video is already pretty old so idk if you'll even ever read this but hopefully future viewers do and learn the difference. A riffle shuffle is like what you see people do with a regular 52 card playing deck where they usually finish it with a "bridge." But that kind of shuffle is known to damage cards, so most people on TCGs would never shuffle like that, even if it truly is the best way to get "true" randomness.

    That shuffle solely, will keep the same few cards on the bottom of the deck, you should riffle and then do a variety of different shuffles.
    ideally more than 1 type of shuffle in the same time. I riffle and then do the previous way then return to riffle and back and forth, guarantees that event the bottom cards are shuffled

    Well max.
    1st of all. That kind of shuffling is called shotgun shuffle at my locals. Rifle shuffling is like normal straight shuffle yugioh player do to their opponents deck while facing the other way (you know what i mean). But maybe it's just a misconception here.
    2nd. That kind of shuffling (rifle according to you, shotgun for us) is actually banned here at my community. More precisely, you can't do that to your opponents deck. But you allowed to do it to yours. The main reason is that kind of shuffling really do damage the sleeve.
    And 3rd. Yes. I always DO this shuffling to my own deck. And i agree with you, this method is in my opinion is the best way to really randomize your deck. Considering i mainly play some lucksacking weeb games called weiss schwarz, randomize your deck is very crucial in this game.
    Finally. Keep up the good work. I love your content to the max (pun pretty much intended) and do less swearing pls^^.
    Cheers.

I myself have been playing since bt01 but when i try to show people the game a lot of them ask to see a UA-cam video to reference from because they don't always have the time to sit down and play an actual game. I think I tracked down the video you mentioned about pile shuffling - ua-cam.com/video/UQxnZlHEnNk/v-deo.html
    Also, a note for anyone reading the comments - pile shuffling is bad for randomizing your deck, but it is a good thing to do at high level competition to make sure you have the correct number of cards at the start of a round. No one likes getting in trouble because they lost a card or forgot to undo sideboarding between rounds for games that do that.

    Riffle shuffling is really important in Vanguard and I hope more GN players would learn to do it. Instead of crying to me that they had no luck playing GN as they keep milling/drawing into triggers instead. GN is a deck that's great at drawing and milling but we suck at filtering and riffle shuffle is the best way to randomized the deck so our probability of drawing/milling into triggers would be less. In some cases we will get into this continuous trigger mills/draws even with riffle shuffle. This occasionally happens when we have used mike & minibelly just to filter the deck. So GN players pls take into account how many triggers you have left in the deck and how many cards have you filtered out of the deck. Don't get too greedy trying to achieve every single ability in one turn. Be patient

    90% of my first drive checks will be crits when I'm playing against my brother. (That's a rough estimate, but it's definitely not far off).

    After I build a deck for any card game I sit there and I shuffle the deck for about 30 minutes

    Honestly i prefer pre-stacking my cards a certain way and then do the stack shuffle a couple of times. Probably not maths proven but it works allows me to stack triggers and hit my grades

      Clement Goh i do this everytime after I’ve profiled my deck. It’s pretty nice

      Sounds hella illegal ;)

    • @0o0serebii
      @0o0serebii 6 років тому

      Solemn Vanguard Pardon me i think you may hav misunderstood what i mean by "stacking" its not illegal since u are just "keeping your cards" in that specific way that "prevents" stacks of grades which at the same time increase stack of trigs and it isnt against the rules since those who do the "stack" ultimately stack shuffle which is the legitimate way to play the game.
      For me with the 50 card and 16 trigs, by placing 2 triggers followed by a grade 1,2,3 risin and repeat you get a very even out deck plus u get to "stacked" triggers "more often" plus you can get yr grades easily cos of the "stack"
      I do understand that im technically stackin cards on purpose and not really randomising my deck like shuffling should do. (Which i can see as cheating to a certain degree)
      But its ultimately isnt an illegal move and its more of a preparation (to "balance" out the deck than just collecting all yr cards to 1 pile after a game which can often lead to stacks of gX or X trigs leading to misgrade) and at the same time stack triggers.
      Its similar to that of MTG where ppl put 2 lands followed by 1 creature in order to tip the odds into their favour of getting the needed type of cards and thats not illegal.
      Besides as mentioned ppl do the stack shuffling as a common practice and wouldn suspect you of "stacking" that way since eitherway the deck is being shuffled and of cos im not sayin shufle like 2 or 3 times likr mayb a couple cos u know cardgamers love to shuffle their cards.
      I hope that with this explanation u could understand this way of "deck preparation" better and it could be a way to solve triging and grade stuck issues :) mayb u can do a vid and cover this after tryin or asking ard if u or yr buds feel if it does anything
      As always great content you're by far the most consistent VG YT producer out there and i love the content u cover thumbs up.
      Ps for the long reply

      That's still stacking. A deck has to be properly randomized. If you have shuffled or arranged your deck in any way as to prevent bad outcomes, that is cheating

      The term Properly Randomize as you mentioned. Explain to me how are you going to determine after i have done a proper* "stack shuffle"(as solomn describes it) or in bushiroad terms "Hindu shuffle" that my deck is properly randomize.
      Proper* (meaning I've legitimately hindu shuffled my deck a couple or multiple of times)
      Sure you can ask the judge and say that i dont think the my opp deck is shuffled properly but that begs the qns are u going to do that for every match?
      And of course you as the opp is allowed to shuffle my deck. And depending on how you shuffle,
      Hindu: I still benefit cos its the same shuffle technique
      Riffle(Faro): then thanks you've oso help randomise my deck that would still benefit me as what solomn mention in his vid.
      At the end of the day you've got no way of proving I "Pre-stacked" and even if you did prove it, i would normally shuffle my deck besides its not just me would might be doing this which then you would nvr be able to tell and im sure not everyone is going to be picky to like oh ima wanna shuffle yr deck cos i know of this "stacking method" that i feel my opp doesn hav a properly randomised deck

    Hi Maxime!
    Actually you should do bridge and riffle shuffle, one of each in odd numbers. For example, I always do 1 bridge and 1 riffle shuffle 5 or 7 times before a game, and then when I need to shuffle my deck during a match I do the same but 3 times. There is math on this, explained by Vmundi on her blog. You should check it out :D
    Ciao!
