This should have been the normal theme, while the Bubble Crab remix, on the other hand, should have been an "alternate" theme, kind of like what was done with Shade Man's stage in Mega Man 7.

When you think about the context of the level, it makes more sense, you're fighting a bunch of giant underwater machines blasting missiles and lasers, the Bubble Crab remix sounds more action-ish, this beta track is too passive, it could fit a "normal" water stage, but not this one.

Was this theme in the actual beta game? Because in the X5 OST it shows up as an "unused track", meaning the track was final but just replaced. Everything thing else here are demos.
the bubble crab remix is way more fitting than this, remember the context that the world is about to be almost destroyed, higher intensity is good and bubble crab's theme in particular has a sort of wistfulness that makes it feel like the fate of the world really is on your shoulders

It gives the stage an eerie kinda feel.
