How to make succulents grow bigger and faster?

  • To make succulents grow bigger and faster is thankfully not very difficult. We can easily influence the size and growth rate of most succulents through managing the growing environment.
    The term Succulent applies to a large group of plants. Some stay quite small and grow slow, some are medium sized and some grow large and fast. Many succulents like little water, some like to be watered more often, some like shade and some like sun. For this reason it is not always possible to make succulents grow big or fast. A succulent that is small growing will not grow more than nature indented, no matter what we do.
    However, most of the time we can help our plants along to grow to their full size and even speed things up a little.

    This was so helpful im from Puerto Rico and my succulents are barely growing do to their extreme gritty mix and have been carefully experimenting with more organic soils and the difference are so noticeable! All my cactus are growing way faster than my succulents do to the organic difference.

      Thank you - so glad i could help 💚 Yeah, i never cared much for the super gritty mix- it stresses the plants too much, though, i can see a use for it in particularly wet climates. Good to hear your succulents are growing well now 🙂

    OK, so I like the way that you give information and succulents so let me ask you these things and make some comments the ones that we see on these videos they look like maybe they’re in Japan or maybe they’re in Mexico depends on who is picking them they’re huge and are you saying that only certain types of succulents will get like that and where do you buy those because they don’t have them in stores Also I wish that you would do one on how to take succulents and get cuttings off of them or get another plant off of them. You know we just have like Home Depot and the succulents that are available there and they’re really boring usually you’ll find just the chicks and hands and just a common ones nothing real special, so I guess we have to order them online? Thanks I hope you can answer my questions or maybe just some videos on that.

      Yes, that is correct. The large ones are specific cultivars. Some succulents have a maximum size of about 6cm (2inch) while others can grow into a literal tree. I have a couple of videos that may help. They are older videos, so pls excuse the poor quality 🙈 I will be making an updated version of these in about a month or so.

      Here's a another few vids i made on species and cultivars that grow large:

      I guess you're right with ordering online. It is the best way of getting unusual succulents. You can also try and see if there is a nursery nearby you that specialises in succulents :)

    I just repotted my succulents about 2-3 weeks ago their leaves seems to be dropping off. I used new succulent potting mix and only water when the soil is completely dry. Can anyone help me?

      Newly repotted succulent plants should not be watered and plants need semi shade for a few days, then gradually increase the light/sun.

    What is thename of the succulent that is like open cabbage and how to propagate it. I have it but don't know the bame

    • @SucculentGrowingTips
      @SucculentGrowingTips  4 місяці тому +1

      It's called Echeveria Katella though there are a few other cultivars that look like cabbages :) Some propagate from leaf but the best way is to propagate the pups once they are big enough. Hope this helps :)

    What sort of fertilizer do you use? I can't seem to find the specific "green ball" fertilizer out there.

      I use a slow release for succulents with NPK ratio 5-5-7. But you’ll be fine with something like 10-10-10 which is a good all round fertilizer and readily available. Succulents will handle a few different ratios but a fairly low Nitrogen is preferable. They come in a few colours- the colour doesn’t matter. Hope this helps ☺️

    Is it true deeper pot will make it focus on roots & shallow pot = leaves?

    • @SucculentGrowingTips
      @SucculentGrowingTips  Рік тому +2

      In my experience- no. Deeper pots=bigger plant overall. I mean, it is true that in bigger, deeper pots succulents (and any other plant) will produce more roots BUT, as a result of the plant having the ability to grow more roots, it will also grow more leaves that will be bigger. In shallow pots the plant will grow slower and the leaves will be smaller. Bonsai are a great example- they can live in shallow pots (with a lots & lots of TLC) but they are super slow to grow and produce very few new leaves. I'll make a video on this :)

      Just thought of a video (link below) i made recently that has the perfect example of plants that are the same age but one was kept in a small/shallow pot while other got repotted into bigger, deeper pot. The difference in growth is pretty staggering

    Do you use bone meal. I do. Holy smokes promotes root growth and grows then gorgeously 😍

      @SucculentGrowingTips  Рік тому

      Great tip- thanks! 🙂 I used to use it in the garden but not in potted succulents. I think i'll do a video experiment to demonstrate how much it promotes growth vs just ordinary potting mix 😁🌵
