Dude - you forgot the most important issue - the way time records are done! The Nordschleife became THE standard for the car industry. As you mentioned, most sports car producers run a big show with their "official" times... almost every 300 hp plus car communicates their "official" Nordschleifezeit. A top Nordschleifezeit means big bucks for the car manufacturers. There are 3 different "track distances". Because of the nature of the race track (connected to the GP track and open to the public), there have been a lot of dangerous situations and accidents in the track section where the two tracks run on the same surface. That means, many times there was traffic from both tracks coming together going in the same direction. The section of the track is called "T13" and is about 253 yards. One of the biggest car magazines for sports cars in Europe (Sportauto) started to do their own time trials and wanted to have official times. They had a lot of hairy situations in the section where the two tracks run on the same surface. And because they wanted to have stable time recordings, they decided to exclude T13 because they could not control the incoming traffic coming from the GP track. They bought standard GTRs and put top racing drivers in them - they were all over 10 seconds slower. Special tires, underweight, engine mapping, etc are almost impossible to control. Just as well as the track gets faster and faster every year - there is a lot of resurfacing going on each winter. Course corrections to make the track safer always take the bite out of corners (Flugplatz Jump etc). My own time was a 9:13 (tourist track) ua-cam.com/video/PP_wEFzGmDs/v-deo.html
Thank you for mentioning the Südschleife, it‘s completely forgotten nowadays. BUT there are some parts of the Südschleife that are still intact. I‘m often at the Nürburgring as I‘m from Germany and last year I explored these abandoned parts of the Südschleife which are now in a little forest.

Insiders say that there is a shit load of cheating going on when it comes to "official" track records. Famous car manufacturers are in the cheating business as well. For example - Nissan GTR (1st. version). Nissan claimed to have run a 7:29 in the 2010s. Several other competitors were more than just surprised/impressed.
Me: I want to go to the Nurburgring
Insurance Company: No!!!
Me: Fine, I'll go there in Forza; with a better car then!!!
Family, Insurance company, Bank account, Mechanic, and Car: Pheeeww, thank you Forza
Nah. Do it for real. PC2, Forza etc all have it wrong.

Actually even rental cars there have a specific note, saying you are not allowed to drive it on the nurburgring lol
@@davidmitchell1929 Yeah man I hope to really go there some day
The guy in the corner that cant afford to buy Forza: ¬ _¬ °_°
I'll do the same, _but_ with Assetto Corsa instead.
I just opened up this course last night in Gran Turismo. Can’t wait to actually test it out.
Just drove on this track for the first time. What a rush! The location is a car enthusiast heavenly getaway. Can’t wait to go back.
"You d-holes have been asking for this one forever" yep, i'm one of them!
Pumphrey didn't say "love you" this time :(
that pronunciation of „Grüne Hölle“ tore my german heart apart
Pflanzgarten too
At least he's trying. Hard to get an american try anything that's out of their borders

It’s hard for English speakers to manage the umlauts (if they haven’t learned German). We don’t have similar sounds in English really, unless you’re Lloyd Grossman or someone.
I live in a German speaking country and it continues to pose me problems, LOL.
I’ll be doing my first lap on Monday. Can’t wait to get there
The video didn't close out with James saying "I love you" and now I feel incomplete and unsettled.

9:43 Never saw a '08 mk2 Twingo doing a corner so damn fast, let alone a 95 Corsa B!!!! O_O
YES YES YES!!!! Been asking for this episode since forever! The guy asking for an episode on Jame's dad has hope!
I've had the privilege of driving my own car (a tuned and lowered MKV Jetta at the time) on the Ring. What an incredible experience!
This was a truly brilliant video guys, packed with interesting facts, made funny with weird distractions, I loved it! Thanks!
Up to Speed: James Hunt Vs Niki Lauda
Let's make it happen!

I live at the Nürburgring and can tell that it's amazing.
Sadly, March 16 of 2021 Sabine Schmitz passed away
*F for a Legend*
I'm taking my s2000 this year, it is just the best drive 😍
Damn you're lucky dude.
Dont forget to have insurance and also practice the Nortchelife of simulations like Asseto Corsa or GT Sport. It can really help you for situations like a track which has soo many blind corners
Have fun and don't crash lmao
Also enjoy the car scene, that's the 2nd best thing at the Ring.
I'm lime green jelly reading this
Definitely play Assetto Corsa and try to memorize the track as best you can and know the limits of your car. I would love to go there one day as I can basically play this track with my eyes shut lol
Man, I‘m from Germany and i love how you try to say those words right 😂. Nice Video.
"Bomb it!"-Air Chief Marshal Sir James May, RAF Bomber Command, on the Nurburgring.
I Love the Ring, the Beautiful Nature around, the History. The stories that the Tarmac could tell. Hearing and seeing all the Cars! Killer V8's, V12's, Flat 4's and many more! But Sabine is also the Ring, R.I.P. She's Racin' with Senna, and Schumacker now! And She is so Purdy! Very Blessed and Talented Lady.
"I'm also a ring master"
*Oh no*
5 seconds later...
Oh, okay, not the kind of "ring" master I thought
I Live 1 hour away from nürnburg ring and i own a type r 2019 :D

Wow. This episode gave me goosebumps.
I've seen a hundred Donut videos and only this one gave me goosebumps.

Ayrton Senna
The king of the rain.
I learned a lot of this info by playing Gran Turismo from day one 😂😂
I was lucky enough to be driven by Sabine in a Bmw M5 E60. THE best thing ever.
You're joking?
@@hachiqju1350 Absolutely not. 195 euros for 1 lap with the Bmw ring taxi. There were 4 drivers and we just got lucky
Back when the Ring taxi was awesome! Now it's too commerciallised and not even allowed to drift anymore... I was banned 2 times doing it last year.
@@JerainJezza I still see our video and got goosebumps.. you're right about the drifting. We did a solid 9 min run with a few slow parts.. She went crazy when we told her that we came just for her from Greece...
up to speed: Ayrton Senna

Probably enzo Dale Earnhardt (the American senna) or is it Ayrton Senna (the Brazilian Dale Earnhardt)?

This and lotus were my favorite videos. Great stuff. I thought I knew a lot about cars until you made it clear why Mercedes official color was silver. Very very informative.
