really wanted to watch the whole vid but man that music is depressing...
lol fast forward then. I think around 9 mins or so is the best part.
9:41 the vtec transition sounds good!
Awesome build man! Props to you. I want to aim in this direction with my s2000.
That was great man.Been looking at getting a new car and the early S2000's interest me. I will go down the same route as you if I do and keep it naturally aspirated. Nice choice of music too.
So funny. I saw the wrapped header and then I saw the bare header and I thought "I hope he wore gloves". Boom next clips your gloves are on. Thank you for doing that! That little step to keep finger grease off is so huge.
Lovely, legit, awesome video. Beautiful S2K. Thanks for sharing :)
Wow, you really did a great job on this video! Your car reminds me of my @SparkyS2K in so many ways, which made it even more fun to watch :-)
That is some serious gain - well done! You should make some more videos of that lovely car. :-)
that flat torque band is amazing.
awesome build!
Probably has at least 100 grand under that hood.
Chase Diaz Monica...Monica!!!. What you want you didn't win. People proceed to say dammmmm and ohhhh snap..lmao
Great video, and great numbers. My AP1 dyno'd at a very poor 187 rwhp with CAI, cat-back exhaust and a tuned VAFC. But it had sucked up some water into the motor and did some damage previous to that. The motor went after a few years.
Ouch. That sucks. Hopefully it was rebuilt and back on the road.
My mechanic found a cheap s2000 motor out of a junked vehicle, and it was just as bad at it sounds. That motor blew maybe 3 weeks after installation when I was on the highway. Finally decided to stop being cheap and had it rebuilt all brand new. Very costly, and I sold the car shortly after.
That powerband is ridiculous!!!
Must be one helluva a fun car to drive
Love this man, think I've seen you on S2ki.
HKMediaChicago no sir. Wasn't me. I have an account but I don't think I've ever posted on there. I was actually thinking of starting a build there on there.
Awesome car, lots of good parts, I can't help but be skeptical of that dyno chart though😛
wowwwww! such a beauty!
Sounds heavenly 👌
Dude i would love to see pull videos on this thats very impressive out of an na 4 cylinder on a mustang dyno
Yo .. sick music .. sick car .. good shit
I tried looking at most comments but couldn’t find a list of your mods. Can you share what kind of exhaust do you have? And what intake is that? Thanks
Hi everyone
I need guidance as I have just started building an Ap1. I am new so kind of lost. I have installed AEM fuel rail and cold air intake , AEM 320 fuel pump. Now looking for good injectors. Already have bought haltech pro plugin, hks headers and catback. Please guide if I am in the right direction?
What is your wheel/tire specs?
Nice flat power and torque curve!
I wonder, Can an ap1 achieve similar power with the same mods?
What style, size, offset and color are those enkei wheels. Looks bling but not blingy.
Late to the party but what wheel and suspension set up is that?
Nice video.
no stupid turbos nice old school tune sounds great!!!!!
I could give or take the music really, but banging S2K man
thats a really nice 4 piston cylinder head
COOL WORK, THE MUSIC KINDA KILLED THE VIDEO THO, WAS HOPING TO HEAR THE CAR.
Yeah that’s why I didn’t have any music at the end during the dyno time 👍🏼
Hey, just started watching some of your vids. Awesome job on the car, just wondered what badges you’ve got on the front and rear? Do you know which Honda they’re off, or have part numbers for them? Really like the look of those ones and would love some for my UK s2k 😁🇬🇧
Nice! I appreciate it and hope you enjoy. I believe the emblems came off an nsx. Not sure the part number though. They look just as nice to this day. 👍🏼
i hate the music bro, almost died listing to it, ! i love that back fire doe!
how much do you charge to do the rebuild I need one for my s2k and where you from buddy ?
Nice !
you can clearly here the V-tec engage its crazy
Thanks for sharing what you did to your F22C. Impressive. Definitely. So with the pistons and cylinder walls, you just cleaned the pistons, replaced the rings and honed the cylinder walls.? And also the bearings for the rods and crank I assumed you replaced also?
aaguirre123 thanks for watching! I actually never went that far with it. I just cleaned off the carbon on the piston crowns. I didn’t tear into the rotating assembly at all. It’s an all stock bottom end. I wish at this point it did bump up compression a bit now haha. You should check out what the car looks like now!! It’s on my channel.
hopefully they calibrated their dyno. I have seen cars make way less after being tuned on this dyno and then dynoing on a nearby dynojet
What are the wheel specs of rpf1
nice hey did you do the work on your motor .. looking to rebuild my have 260k miles .. where did you take your head cleaned up..
I sent the head to 4piston. They did an awesome job. You should look them up.
Came for the car, stayed for the song
What are the specs on the cams
Stock throttle body an intake manifold?
Love the s2k!!! Impressive #s as well
Would love to it it do some runs
Thanks dude. It's going through a ton of changes. You should check it out now!
Did you clean the block in the car and just send the head off or did you take the motor out and just didn't show it? If you left the motor in how did you go about cleaning it so well?
rambow70 sent the head off only. I covered the holes and took my time cleaning it. I used WD40 and a scotch bright pad with a block of wood and carefully cleaned off the deck. I didn’t go too long cleaning it. For the pistons I used a brass brush and different solvents to clean off the carbon. Also used a pick to chip out the valve reliefs carefully as well. After that, I ran the piston down and up several times to clean off the debris that fell in between the piston and cylinder wall. Patients is key.
vid is not available
Is that the mugen intake? I have a 99 s2k (yeah it's not common lol) it's the only reason I haven't gotten an 06, aem and haltech are expensive so it will be a while before I can tune mine. I have Brian crower stg2 cams and a spoon spec 3 crankshaft, and berk headers mated to invidia catless. Once I can finally tune it I hope to be around 240 wheel
+patrickryan814 no its actually a password jdm intake kit. Yeah the ecu was expensive but just as important. i have the haltech plug in pro
how much for tune the car???????
nice video bro..
reminds me of myself but with different car lol
What’s the spec off those cams
Which haltech ecu are you using?
11:50 how do you mount and dismount your number plate so easily?
It wasn't mounted at all. Need to though....but it looks so good without one!!
Beautiful car! What wheels size and where did you get them? Can't find anyone selling sbc rpf1's for the S2K.
Badass man, I bet this S2000 can beat a lot of cars haha
haha yeah its awesome to drive dude. But its gone through some major changes...have you seen the latest? Its like this but the 2.0 version. Should be better when i am done.
Hey man nice build. can i get a list of all the parts you installed? also why did you go with the ferrea e11066 retainers? on their website under honda s2000 that part number doesnt even show up for either ap1 or ap2.
Check out the comments below. You will see what I have in it. 👍👍
Bro i love the video... wish stuff went smooth like this for me... am boosted.. always having problems from bad coil packs, header braking on the interstate making my tial wastegate fall off at 77mph, that destroying my hotside blade, rebuilt motor with eagle rods, wiseco pistons, superteck valves, brian crower cams and drivetrain, darton sleeved, and cylinder 3 already at 120 psi compression :( what shop you take it to tune and how much they charged?
Hey man I basically have the same setup on e85 didn't break 200whp, did you have your head port and polished at all? Trying to figure out what's restricting me, also got tuned on a dyna pack, that might have something to do with it as well. Different intake setup as well.
Danny Lugo ya I did get a cnc head. I also have cams. What do you have done to yours?
Not a fan of Hondas anymore HOWEVER the S2K and NSX will always be beast for what they are. Very well thought out and tastefully done mods. Respect.
Thanks man! means a lot. Theres more in the works with this s2k man. I have already modified it since then and theres an on going project to feed the engine that needs more air and fuel lol. Check out the rest of my stuff if you get a chance! The NSX will always be my dream car...
Chase Diaz No doubt man, are you going to keep it N/A or boost it? Def going to keep up with the build and check your other vids.
Staying NA. Turbo is cool and all but theres so many turbo s2ks. I usually don't want to do what everyone else does. I know its more hp per dollar blah blah blah I don't care about all that crap. but the s2k imo needs to stay na. turbos are for the gtr and supra :)
I can dig that. I feel the same way about Z's, not to mention in general N/A is more reliable and more usable around town. fun factor. If you are considering ITBs, TODA are great, but Kinsler I honestly feel is better. Main reason being they will customize them however you want, Including Top feed injectors. Just in case you were looking for something like that.
SANSOOSON yeh I've looked into kinsler. Looks awesome. But I decide to work with what I got. Added a few more parts to it. Major changes coming soon.
what are your wheel specs
yea.. should try them . best the skunk 2 in js racing..
So he's revving to 9,000 with the 2.2l ... I wonder how the bottom end will handle the increased piston speed. Any updates?
Update is still pending. The engine is fully built now. Waiting on cams..
Is that NSX R JDM badges? as I remember they are flush, right? but the S2k trunk lid is kinda curved, how did you make the badge fit on the trunk?
Suolong Dong yes the trunk is curved. But it's still flat enough to get the whole surface area of the emblem. What I did was press and hold firmly for about 20secs. Worked out just fine. Washed the car many times with no problem.
what issues was the Haltech management giving you about the engine rpm situation
Slvr2k we came to the conclusion that it was the firmware. For some reason it was picking up misfires and the AFR went crazy and read all over the place.
Music For my ears
thanks man nice set up.. have you ever heard of balladesport headers .. my friend make 215 with just exhaust and headers..
Ya I have. I ordered a few parts from them for this car. They make some nice stuff. Kind of a pain to deal with them cause they're so busy. I got my injectors, manifold and throttle body from them.
+Chase Diaz can you give a list of mods you purchased for your motor, please and thanks!
+Andrew T Well, it's a lot lol....here it is. Password JDM intake, ballade sports tb, ballade sports ported OE manifold. 4piston head (I chose not to get the full race valve job for longer life), ddtech custom cams, skunk2 megapower header, tanabe exhaust, radium eng. dual crankcase ventilation kit, rdx injectors and haltech ecu.
+Andrew T I could've made more power but I held back on purpose. I wanted it to maintain street driving characteristics. I really wanted a better header, j's racing single exhaust, slightly higher compression (E85 of course but they don't sell much where I live yet) and camshaft gears. Maybe down the road when something messes up or overhaul time haha.
You used Haltech Standalone ECU ? Haltech won’t give you OBD compliant, right?
The haltech premium you can unplug then plug in a OEM ecu or just move to Florida like me and never worry about emissions
Can you tell me exactly what 4piston did to the head and how much it was? I’m looking for them to do some work thanks!
Chris Elders I told them I wanted a streetable head. They did their full cnc porting on intake and exhaust. I didn't want the "full race" valve job. So they have me a "better than stock" valve job. I did not take them on their offer to go 1mm oversized on the valve ports. Finally I purchased their full ferrea valve train setup. Total cost I think somewhere around + - 2000
Valve tapping?
Why does the graph look like a supercharged s2000
Chase Diaz nice build man! I actually like the music. What is the song after the 30 sec to mars song?
Thats the same knocking I got with my BC cams.
One day I'll have one of these too bad honda stopped making cars that don't suck like this one
nice build, done right but would have have reringed the pistons while I had the head off. a compression test before and after would of been nice too.
Grip Limit yeeeeahhh thought about it. I almost went up on compression. Told myself if anything happens I'll go up on compression. But i knew the rings were okay judging by the condition of the cylinder walls. I didn't check compression afterwards but when I cranked it over (no fuel) it sounded pretty good and consistent.
Grip Limit thank you though. It was a lot of work for sure. More time consuming though.
how much more does this cost then a run of the mill s2000 rebuild? @Chase Diaz
cdwag23 not too sure. I didn't add up the costs. But head wise (since I didn't want to buy a used head). It was about the same to get it rebuilt by 4piston as a new one. I can say that it was significantly more.
Chase Diaz I appreciate the quick reply man. Thanks. My name's also Chase and I own a 2001 AP1 haha, currently needs to be rebuilt due to low compression :(
these numbers seem to be a bit... high, do you have a baseline or has any other s2000 dynoed there???
No baseline dyno. I never really planned on modding the car to this extent. But since the head needed work, I decided to go this route as opposed to OE spec. I am sure another s2k has been on this dyno before. I just don't know about it or know anyone. I'll ask the tuner. Makes me curious. One thing is for sure though, this car really pulls hard now. I'll be back on the dyno as soon as I free up from work. I am going to run a fuel sensor for e85 and see how it responds.
Valve problems at 76K? What happened?
+Chris Brewer I think the previous owner over reved the engine. Always seemed to idle funky since I bought it. I always thought dirty IACV. I was wrong lol.
Great motivation for me
please, answer me! wheel, tire, and suspension specifications! also, did you roll your fenders?
Yup, I rolled fenders. The wheel size is staggered. 17x8 17x9 +45 5x114.3. Lowered with eibach springs.
+Chase Diaz tire size, please? thanks, man. you're the first to answer to my questions. means a lot.
Very nice result, do you know how much HP you gain with only this header without any other mods? something like 3-4hp maybe ?
Bunta Fujiwara I wish I knew....I threw it on all at once. I've contemplated on purchasing the ballade sports header recently but I'll wait. Look into that one if you can. But if you're stuck on the skunk2 I am not sure. The forums on s2ki should have a header thread. Thanks!
Thanks ;)
I'm looking for the Ballade sport as well, let me know if you feel any difference with this one :).
Tbh I think the exhaust is a little too quiet
What the one at 4:36
Dude that's crazy. I wish I would have gone with Noribilt... I had a local guy tune my S2000 in Killeen. He got 216hp on a dynojet, but I feel like there is more. I have same intake, j's racing header, and T1R single exhaust. Where are you from man?
+Kyle McDuffie Nice man...yeah i am sure you can get more out of that set up. What do you have an AP1 or AP2? Yeah my s2k is so fun to drive. Its on pump gas too!
+Kyle McDuffie ap1's should dyno around 210whp or less on a dyno jet. AP2 probably in the 205-215 range.
but the correct answer is to compare your stock dyno numbers to your dyno numbers with the intake header exhaust, then again with the tune.
as long as you get a 15-20hp gain you're straight. Definitely need to add cams and high flow cats, like those from random technology.
headworks/cams and test pipe or high flow cat should yield another 20-30hp
if you do total head work with all bolt ons and tune you should definitely feel a nice difference and rev it out higher. Some dyno's read lower or higher and it depends on every weather factor.
My question is how did this engine have compression problems at 78k miles? thought Hondas ran at least to 300K before needing a rebuild? My CRX needed one at 270K
airinvasion123 not too sure how the valves got bent but it was already there when I bought the car. I always thought it was an iacv issue. My guess it that it was over revved. Yeah Hondas are very reliable but when you go outside the designed limits it's gonna happen. Man vs machine. My civic d series had almost 220k before I got rid of the engine.
ah so it was probably something stupid the previous owner did then gotcha ... I'm in the process now of selling my crx and am strongly considering an s2000.
airinvasion123 these engines are very reliable, but the truth is they get beaten on from day one. If you're in the market for any used performance car, expect to find something broken and be ready and able to fix it. Its just how it is, very few people take above average care of their cars.
Ya my CRX was very neglected when I got it I wasted so much money fixing it. I ended up deciding to get an s2000 later when i have a garage.
airinvasion123 what engine your crx had? They re hard to come by nowadays. Many people want them to do h2b and k swaps in them.
Nothing like someone sharing their car TLC with the rest of the world. Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, whatever. There's just something about seeing people enjoy taking such great care and putting their heart into their cars...
