Wow man, I love how he brought up the fact that Mallory stopped his fall, just shows the quality of a mountaineer he was, far before his time, then top it off with the gear these guys we using. Absolute legends these men.

They buried him in rock correct? I was never into this kind of thing but happened across some Everest videos on UA-cam and kind have gone down a rabbit hole the last few months. I thought in the one video they buried him and never really told anyone exactly where they found him so people didn’t go messing with him.

Great interview. I can really see the respect Andy has for Mallory and other fellow mountaineers who didn't make it. He's a humble man who understands the narrow margin that exists between life and death for those up in the high altitudes. Look forward to the next part.

Hi Thom, these interviews are a winner format. Thank you. Nice to see Andy Politz in the (digital) flesh with you.
So, question: I was surprised at what Andy said about an old oxygen rig being found on the east face. That was news to me. More info on that, Andy? Who, what, when, where??
So, another question, since Andy says there was a complete set of photos of the Mallory site taken before excavation, can you see if you can piece together an end to end set of photos of the rope? How was it tied, how long was it from Mallory’s body to the bitter end? How was it tied towards belay or roping up? Any photo of the far “bitter end and the rope’s condition there? It was so great to see that new photo of the watch, I’d love to see more artifact photos. Thanks, Thom.

Hi Thom, I have followed the M&I mistery since even before the 1999 expedition, which of course produced a whole new interest on it. So first of all, many thanks for your channel and the very ineteresting videos.
One of the many search efforts that is very little talked about is the 2004 search by the EverestNews Team (unfortunately they did never reveal their names to the wide public). They found an old O2 bottle and retrieved many artifacts in a spot where (according to them) 5 sources had seen 'an old body". They aimed at investigating many artifacts (fibers, glass, the O2 bottle) but I have never seen any results made public. Is there any chance for you to interview that team in the near future? Thanks for your great effort.
On another note, I belong to a group of glaciologist working in the Everest area, retrieving glacier changes since historical times. I have tried to get in touch with Jochen Hemmleb (as he may have good material for glaciological research) with no success. Is there any chance you might help me in getting in touch with him?

Many thanks for your thoughts! I know the gent who funded the 2004 search expedition. I've worked with him on and off over the years. He is extremely protective of every ounce of information that his team came across. With sincere respect, there was a ton of work on that expedition and possibly a wealth of new information that has not been added to the general knowledge base. I'm glad you brought it up....I will reach out to him.
I can put you in touch with Jochen. DM me at my email address in the About section and I'd be happy to put you together. Send me a bit of info about yourself so I can give Jochen some background.

The singeing on the wool is curious, but surely could have also occurred on the garments at any time during the expedition before the final demise, or we're the marks so obviously made in-situ ? Fascinating. So there exists detailed photographs of the body and resting place prior to any touching or searching thereof? Perhaps except for Mr. Anker's search of the sweater collar with Mallory's name? Are these high definition photos containing great detail? Seems like these could be useful and have clues for sleuths, no? I mean I realize they've probably been poured over thousands of times by people with access. But you never know where even one person might find a small clue, a new clue, perhaps someone with knowledge and a keen sense of observation, that changes the way we understand an event. Based on my research (and this is just a theory), discussed on this video at 12:11
Wind and ice probably weren't the sole factors that produced the warmth strong enough to burn George Mallory's clothing.
The other factor is Mallory himself. On extreme cold temperatures at high altitudes; one can easily get hypothermia, or body lacking in oxygen.
Defense mechanism kicks in at the moment where you need the sufficient amount of oxygen. Therefore, the heart generates enough heat to the body, a climber will feel hot around those extreme cold temperatures.
I believe Mallory's body generated enough heat to cause much or at least a spark of 'spontaneous human combustion'.

    Hello Thom
    Thanks for another interesting Video
I was lately thinking about GLM & Sandy Irvine's fall.
As I understand you found on GLM clothes stains of blood that might indicate that
Either GLM or even both of them sustained 2 falls, 2nd one the fatal one.
My question is, if such scenario is possible could it be that after the first fall Irvine was not able to move forward
& GLM assist him to find cover & then proceeded down back to camp 6 in order to get food, medicine & help for Irvine & on his way fell to his death?
If such scenario is reasonable & knowing:
    -GLM resting position.
-weather & amount of snow on the mountain that day.
Is it possible with the help of computer software to try & analyze GLM line of fall & then try to look for a possible
Places nearby the place he start falling, where Irvine might be located awaiting to GLM ?

    • @EverestMystery
      @EverestMystery  2 роки тому +2

This is a very possible scenario. Some sightings have placed Irvine 'on the ridge' which would indicate GLM continued (or fell) downward and he remained behind because he was either unable to move from exposure or seriously injured. I believe the snowfall that day was not significant, and by evening it cleared. I think that with the help of computer software there might be a way to determine the likely places GLM fell...which might lead us to understand their location when the rope between them broke. There are many possible scenarios and yours is a solid one. Many videos (in the Mystery of Mallory & Irvine playlist as well) talk about GLM's body position when discovered. Andy talks a bit about it here, as well. Stay searching, I really appreciate your insight and analysis!

The wording conjures up two guys with shovels digging a hole and unearthing human remains...wherein it's helpful to know that the surface of Everest above 8000 meters is as hard as steel. A few rocks were removed. I have spoken at length on this channel and in my public presentations about the dilemma of continuing the search for clues to Mallory's fate. On that day I put the question literally to Mallory himself: would GLM have wanted us to do everything in our power to seek new and revealing evidence about his fate, while also shedding more light on his endeavor for family members still living in 1999? The answer was very easy. I recall feeling at the time that it would have done GLM a great disservice to ignore the only time there would ever again be an opportunity to help shed light on the fate of one of that generation's most venerated figures. All that said, I truly appreciate that you took the time to watch the video and respect that many people disagree. Thank you for sharing and for doing so in a respectful and kind manner.
