Thanks for sharing all your techniques … I did my first batch of handloads ever this weekend in 6.5 creed and over a 10 shot group doing OCW testing I got ES of 8 and SD of 3.4!!!

One thing to add: if you’re storing your firearm for any length of time verify, the chamber is empty and fire, the gun, so the spring has less tension on it.

I do it differently. I remove the striker from the bolt. Different method, same effect.

I was going to order a few screwdriver bits for a project and included a firing pin spring for an old Rem 700 in 223. Thanks for the tip!

I remember asking you about how to improve my Es and SD.
The answer is or was..almost everything.
Later you posted a video walking outside answering the same question from a chick.
    Long learning curve in reloading...
    Thanks for sharing.
Misersble weather in SA, southern Australia...atm..stopping foxing...
    Keep well..
    Thanks.

I'm appreciate you putting this video out. Never would have known this with out your video. I've experienced this in hammer fired auto pistols like the 1911 as round count can deplete stock springs after a few thousand rounds and is actually normal. But the firing pin spring of a bolt gun was not on my radar. I learn something new almost every time I watch you. Thank you.l

You may have just solved a problem I have with a new rifle. It's a .223 Rem and right off the bat I was popping primers with very moderate loads. I'm having to use CCI 41s in a bolt action rifle to keep from cratering or blanking primers. I'm gonna order a new firing pin spring and see what happens. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing the observations. Do you measure the spring rate and compression force before or before/after annual PM? Also spring free length, OD and wire diameter? And how it changes performance of the rifle? How do you determine requirements/specifications for a spring?

Keith please tell what you thinking about Tubb duo springs ? And why some shooters using 28lb spring in their Rimrock BRM (it comes with 24lb from factory) ?

When you say Blanking Primers, is that the same as Pierced Primers?

Its nice that you share this. I have never been a fan of people keeping secrets when they are good at something. The whole recipe hiding in shooting or pre game routine for sports or just flat out preparing for a test and getting yourself ready is something we should all share. It moves the bar forward for everyone. Stagnation is never good for society in any aspect. Thanks for showing us this!

You know what's even worse for society? Narcissists! No one cares what you think bro. Just like no one cares what I think.

I've heard a lot about how springs effect things that you might not think that they would.
But, I have never heard any explanation of how or why this happens, ect...
I'd love it if you went about 10 miles deep into an explanation, or could point me in the direction of someone who has??

What are the tools you used for changing out the spring?

There are several manufacturers that make spring changing tools. Give a look around at your favorite online parts/accessories/components provider.

Can this be the issue on handgun ES / SDs?

    • @winninginthewind
      @winninginthewind  Рік тому +2

Adequate firing by pin impact on the primer is the key to consistency in ignition. How that is achieved is quite different in a handgun.
