My grandfather was actually an instructor in this field during WWII. Variable pitch propellers were so complex, that they required their own instructional courses.
This proves that there is no need for extensive 3D animations to educate. In the flying school where I learned to fly (hobby pilot: single engine 2-seaters), they had many 16 mm training films from the US Air Force. When the weather wasn't VFR we used to watch a few movies.
