I like how Donnie instantly uses the dull side of the blades not to kill anyone, neat little detail for people who watched the first movie and understand is opinion on killing people

Men have fought multiple skilled fighters in alleys and streets where the space is limited and they can run and use cover
The Ip Man movies were never meant to be historically accurate to the real life figure. They were simply meant to keep said figure’s legacy alive.

It's crazy how they would try to murder master Ip Man and his student with machetes over a disagreement.
I first saw Donnie Yen in a string of films in the early and mid-90s where he played a really diverse set of powerful roles, from demonic eunuch to confused bumbling boyfriend, and he was TERRIFIC in every one of them. I was such a huge Jet Li and Jackie Chan fan, but I had to start buying crappy VHS transfers with dodgy subtitles at $30 a pop (that's how it was, in those days) for Donnie's films, too. Such the complete kung fu film package. I'd watch him read morose Chris Claremont X-Men comics on screen for ninety minutes.
What he does with that pallet reminded me of Jackie Chan using a stepladder.

I love HK kung fu cinema but I HATE how lazy they cast their films. The lead bad guy (Dennis To) plays a bad guy in this film yet plays a younger Ip Man in a side film off series, where he clearly lacks the presence and acting chops of Donnie Yen so that movie sucked.
