I like how Donnie instantly uses the dull side of the blades not to kill anyone, neat little detail for people who watched the first movie and understand is opinion on killing people
He'd go as far as breaking someone's leg but not killing them.

Men have fought multiple skilled fighters in alleys and streets where the space is limited and they can run and use cover
The Ip Man movies were never meant to be historically accurate to the real life figure. They were simply meant to keep said figure’s legacy alive.

For a second there, I thought the comment referred to Donnie Yen.

I first saw Donnie Yen in a string of films in the early and mid-90s where he played a really diverse set of powerful roles, from demonic eunuch to confused bumbling boyfriend, and he was TERRIFIC in every one of them. I was such a huge Jet Li and Jackie Chan fan, but I had to start buying crappy VHS transfers with dodgy subtitles at $30 a pop (that's how it was, in those days) for Donnie's films, too. Such the complete kung fu film package. I'd watch him read morose Chris Claremont X-Men comics on screen for ninety minutes.
