Actually, I don't think this song is just his longing for Kaname or his reproach against life. In fact, what he is talking about is that he is "a good brother". Because we know him as someone who always cares about and loves his brother and disguises himself to make his dreams come true.
But the key here is hidden in the letter from his father. He doesn't say how he feels when he reads the letter, he just goes to Reimei to do as he is told and meets his brother. But what if Merumeru is involved in a significant part of this tragic story? After all, he and Kaname didn't know each other at all, he didn't even know about him. He may have vented his anger and hatred towards him/his father by somehow disrupting his radio show. Because Kaname doesn't know what happened on the radio show that day, and he doesn't know what he did. If we go right after the simultaneous events; In 'Meteor Impact', the place where Subaru goes for a job interview is the same. It would take a major flaw/wrong statement or an order from higher ups for Kaname to be dismissed so quickly. Merumeru and Ibara are the two strongest possibilities. I think Merumeru took his brother's place not only to fulfill his dreams, but also to atone for his own sins. He doesn't forgive himself, he forces himself to live. There is clearly a sense of longing in the song. Merumeru is now crushed under the weight of his HiMERU identity. On the other hand, if we return to Ibara; Ibara's plans are often complex and deep. Satanic even. He was assigned to Reimei (as a Shuuetsu student) around the time when Kaname was in a coma. In short, "Hold me Tight" is a song of regret for me. Longing and regret...
