Hey quick question if a woman wants to get her hair cut along with the men what haircuts can they do

I'm only bringing, hand towel, like 3-5 pairs of underwear 🩳, soap 🧼, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant, socks 🧦, phone 📱 with charger and phone power bank, a rugged tablet(for AIT), mask 😷, and gaterneck, locks 🔒 maybe 1 shirt 👕 and 1 pants 👖 and that's all I am taking. Fits in a tiny bag I have that's probably no more than a foot tall.

This is super helpful! Thank you! One question- all of my black sports bras have really small (size of a nickel) reflective logo on the back. Can I just black that out with permanent marker or will they be inspecting super closely?
Yes blacking it out will be fine.

Me, personally, thought that it was complete useless to bring anything to basic training because it was going to be stored into the personal items closet throughout the entire duration you’re there. I would say hygiene stuff is good other than that don’t bring clothes or lenin.
I agree somewhat. I only advise a few civilian shirts/pants due to the constant changes with COVID and anything could happen between reception and your actual BCT unit.

Yea I’ll have to pass on the tampons. I’m a virgin and have tried using them before and it hurt. Thankfully I’m in ROTC so I’ll only have to go to BOLC but if it’s the same case then tampons is still a no for me

Yes you are. Most trainees bring the normal sized black school subject notebooks. That way they can have their addresses in it and use the same notebook to write letters home to their families. Bring stamps and envelopes as well that way you don’t have to purchase them when you arrive. Put all of that in a ziplock bag, it’s easier to keep up with.

Negative u don’t need too, but if u do, it needs to be brown. You will get a chance at reception to go to the PX and get additional toiletries.

I’ve seen a bunch of videos saying unscented when it comes to soap and lotion. Vaseline Radiant isn’t scented. Is that ok?
Yes, it’s okay.
I am 16, I want to join the army after highschool. As for the tampon part of the video, I have brought it up to my mom multiple times and she won't even let me try to use them. Anyone got advice for me.
some moms really are psycho with that kinda stuff. i know cause my ex's mom was like that. just do what works for you and ignore whatever they are trying to tell you. if they scream at you for it just keep your mouth shut and ignore, etc
If you aren’t comfortable wearing one when you get to BCT that’s fine, wear what works for you. Your situation is understandable. Tampons in my opinion are the better option, however not mandatory.

😂😂. Yes definitely bring at least two combination locks. IDK how I forgot that one. All of the other things should be given to you in a “goodie bag” once u get to your company.

You’re welcome. There will be washers and dryers at your barracks that you will be able to use for free.
Hello, thank you so much for this video! I currently have the bottom of my hair highlighted so the top of my head is dark brown and the Botton is light brown. It currently isn't that noticeable unless I have my curly hair out of a bun, will I have to get that done before I go to basic or when I go to basic will there be someone who will dye my hair all one color if they see it?
Natural highlights are authorized. During BCT your hair will remain in a bun or in another authorized hairstyle i.e braids/cornrows. If your drill sergeant sees your colored hair as a violation of AR-670-1 ( regulation on wear and appearance of the uniform/grooming standards) you will be able to dye it.

Are we allowed to bring razors for female ? I know it will get taken but I been told we will get it taken away and only given few weeks later.
You will be allowed to go to what’s called a “troop store”, I’d just purchase them there.
i have eczema, i know you said no “smell good” hygiene products. but the body wash i use for my eczema, it’s specifically for eczema but it has a oatmeal sent to it. would i be able to bring it ?
Yes it should be fine. Just notify your DS of your situation.
Are twist on natural hair permitted? If so is it a good decision for basic training?
Yes they are. I would go with actual plaits/braids as opposed to twist. They’ll last longer.
Would i be allowed to wear a retainer at night? I have bruxism, or do i need a note from a doctor
Bring a doctors note. You’ll be looked at by a military doctor more than likely as well.
was it free to wash your clothes? like was there a laundry there? if not, did u hand wash them
Yes, you’ll be able to wash your clothes for free.
My shampoo is a body wash and face wash all combined. (Baby Cetaphil (2 in 1 body and shampoo) It does have a mild scent but it’s shampoo. Is it possible to find unscented shampoo?
If the scent is mild it should be fine, just nothing potent.
Do I need my original birth certificate and social security card or can I just take a copy of them?
take a certified copy of your certificate n i'm pretty sure you need your original social, if it's damaged get it replaced before you go.

Hello I’ll be going to fort Leonard soon do I need to bring stamps and envelopes? And do we purchase shower sandals at the shop ? Or before ? And can our face lotion and face products be full size
I’m not a DS at Fort Leonard wood so I can’t speak for their process. You should be able to bring your own stamps and envelopes. Usually shower shoes are purchased during your reception. I would bring travel size products in the event you can’t have the full size you won’t waste as much product/money.

Other than tampons, are there any other toiletries that we can take from our personal bag? I bought moleskin, band-aids, chapstick, etc.
Seems like a waste of money to purchase things at the PX when you've bought them at home when they don't break regulation.
Having "ethnic" hair...I don't exactly trust for the PX to have appropriate brushes and combs for my hair.
Everything you’ve mentioned is necessary. Moleskin and chapstick will come in handy during rucks especially with the weather changing.
True, the shopette will not have the products needed to maintain ethnic hair. They do sell gel, however none that will “hold”. If I were you I’d bring the necessary items for your hair (hair ties, gel, comb, brush, scarf, bobby pins, etc…) At the end of the day it will be up to your DS if you can keep them or not. However it’s better to have them and they possibly say yes, then not to have them and then struggle to keep your hair in regulation.
Most females came with their hair already braided and around week 4 they had another trainee re-braid/cornrow it.

I have a question 🤔 I know we can’t use scented products, but I have type 4 hair and the only products that work for my hair *like Shea moisture and carols daughter* are scented are they going to take those from me 🤧
Those hair products should be fine. They shouldn’t take them as long as they aren’t too strong and people don’t start complaining.

Is the bringing the birth certificate necessary? Because I keep seeing a lot of ppl say they are bringing it and my recruiter didn’t tell me to ..
You will need a copy of your birth certificate on file as well as your children if you have custody. It’s a supporting document needed to receive entitlements for your dependents i.e spouse/children. It’s better to have it when u come than need it once u start training. It’ll be harder to reach back home and have someone send it due to not having your phone at all times

You can if you’d like but make sure they are sealed and solid black is the color I recommend. If it’s just out you’ll have to pack it away because it may be “contaminated”. However, the army will provide mask to you.
Question , can I bring facial wax strips to basic ?
Hi I wanted to know if grey, navy blue and beige is okay for the underwear’s I ordered neutral colors. I leave in 2 weeks i don’t want to carry apparel that may not be permitted. Same for sports bras.
It’s really going to boil down to your DS. I’d say go with the beige and navy blue. The military actually issues tan/beige sports bras and they recently started issuing black. The underwear colors are usually white or black, but I had grey is basic and my Drills didn’t care.
what if my underwear has wording on the waist line, but are still solid black or white will I still be able to wear those?
Is the wording super big and noticeable? To be safe they need to be solid black. I would go to Walmart and purchase a black pack of Hanes underwear.
Can I bring a whiles worth of my face wash and moisturizer? I have sensitive skin if I do not take care of it so I was just wondering :)

Does your shampoo and conditioner need to be unscented?
Yes; however it can be difficult finding that so if it is scented it should be a very light smell. Nothing super fruity and strong.

Proof that they are your actual dependent, ssn, ID, birth certificate etc…Your recruiter should give you specifics before you ship. There’s a packet you will complete.

Sorry for the delayed response I thought I answered it. You can get birth control in BCT. I’m not sure how the depo shot works, but I know trainees do receive birth control pills.

No ma’am. You will never have time to blow dry or flat iron your hair. Even if you did, with the intensity of the workouts and training it wouldn’t last long.

So if im going to be wearing an outfit to the hotel the evening before Meps, then the one for meps, am I good on the change of clothes?? I was going to trash one of the outfits. The two pair of pants/bottoms should be enough. I would have more than two shirts however(maybe 4). They should not take up much room at all if packed correctly. Roll them instead of folding them. There are videos on UA-cam. If you’re coming during the winter I would have a jacket/coat as well in place of the third outfit you were going to originally bring.
You could possibly bring a bigger size in your personal belongings. That’s something you would need to express to your drills to see if you would be able to go into your personal bag to re-up on the lotion if not provided at the PX. I broke out during basic training as well due to the change of environment. There is no guarantee you will be able to use the lotion if it is scented. As long as it’s unscented you should be fine.
I have a question about when it’s time for our monthly’s, are we able to take medicine for it during basic?
You will only be allowed to take medication that is prescribed to you by a doctor.

Brown towels/washcloths. Socks need to be solid black or army green with no logos at all. Bring 2-3, you’ll be able to purchase more.

That’s completely fine. You can braid it up or wear it out, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the head gear and it is neat (use Bobby pins if needed).There is a regulation you can Google (Army Regulation 670-1) it goes into detail about grooming standards that are allowed and not allowed. As long as they are a neutral color (black/nude/white) it shouldn’t be an issue. However it will be dependent upon what your DS decides.
