Thank you for all the mentorship and teaching over the years. It's unlocked me to start trying to grow food for my family and years later now I'm trying to help spread the word because I love it so much. So glad you can keep going, and I'm excited to see what else the future brings! (Finally finished the whole vid ♥️)
I know a bloke that might be able to help with the rodent & hare issue.. Just need $4K for some night vision kit. 🤣🤔 Ginger family would have to be the easiest plants we've grown as well.👍 Would do it again in a heartbeat mate, not that we did much. Cheers Hoocho & might be seeing you soon if you're around in a couple of weeks.
Mitchell, I'm so glad to hear you're doing well. I got distracted by moving to another state (USA), and discouraged by some gardening and hydroponic failures, and stopped watching your videos for several months. Today I scoured through the last few months and found this video saying you're okay! Lots of catching up (binge-watching) to do, because I'm motivated again and starting a couple of new hydro projects. I've honestly learned more from you than any other presenters, you are my FAVORITE! Thank you for what you do!❤
Happy to hear the funding worked out! Glad you’re on the up and up and that our community came together to keep you going. Always a pleasure to see your content and to learn with your help!
Thank you Hooch. Certainly more than inspired by your passion and curiosity in this field....It's got me tinkering with different ideas and adapting things you've explored and currently building one mammoth system which will tie them all together to be able to provide food for my new young family. My 4 month old Son already clearly enjoys sitting on my lao watching your latest videos and then pottering around in the greenhouse we are building together to house the hydroponic food garden. Thank you Hooch....Thank you
Thank you for sharing your story. We started hydroponics on a really small scale with my husband while living with my parents. After falling out with them and moving out, we didn't have a chance to do it again. We are finally in a rental place and we finally have enough backyard space to do it again. My husband and I are watching your videos as they are informative and simple to understand. We would love to support you financially but unfortunately, we are financially tight right now because of our IVF treatment. We support you by watching your videos and sharing them.
Thank you Mitchell for all your hard work and dedication to not only producing quality content but sharing your love and passion and your journey, and thank you to everyone who donated to help save the land and just being wonderful human beings, happy growing everyone!
You make fantastic content! I'm so glad you were able to keep your home and studio. I absolutely love all your hydroponic experiments. I was SUPER excited to see your new Kratky tomatoes too! As an off grid homesteader, Kratky seems like a great way to utilize hydroponics.
Thanks for this channel! The work you is providing network effects for sure for R&D. For me personally, knowing someone like you exists somewhere in the world actually helps keep me motivated for my own research.
Thank you. I never thought I had any hope with plants and after seeing this I feel like even I can grow plants and now I have a good idea to use my 3D printer.
Yeah nar mate. Thank YOU for your time and efforts🤙 Your videos are invaluable, you’re giving inspiration to so many people. Feed the world MT❤ Keep on punching 👍
You have opened up gardening to me again after 4 yrs in a an apartment with no yard. I have missed gardening so much, and you have given it back to me. And now my grandchildren, who used to water my tomatoes and all my flowers for me, are shown that growing isn't limited to outside! They are so excited to pop over to see how big plants have got, to see if the snap peas and cherry tomatoes have some ready to pick and eat. And I've realized that I even have a large hall closet that would be perfect for a large grow light and more tomatoes -- tied up to the bar that one should hang coats on! And its even stealth if I needed it to be, as the landlord isn't going to open the closet door! You make mistakes, You're human. You trashed a whole set of tomato plants in a grow tent but grew lots of mold... did you hide that? No, you showed us it all -- even you disinfecting the tent!. You keep trying, keep evolving, and you're always looking for ways to help us plant cheaper and grow cheaper. I'm buying pool noodles this year! thank you for all you do, and you finally look less worried, less on edge. I have worried about you and so very happy to see you strong and assured again! (and so very happy you will now keep your place!)
I just figured out how to join your Patreon account. I'm glad you are getting support from your videos. You content is top notch. I almost don't want to tell you this on a public forum, but maybe it will be some solace to others. Gardening provides some relief to the PTSD I suffer from and by following the ideas and concepts you bring to me through your channel hopefully will allow me to grow year round. This time (Winter Time in the States), is always the roughest time of the year for me. Keep up the great work! You are appreciated!
Hey Hoocho! We have flowers on our dragon fruit this week. Ipswich QLD. Make sure you get the electric toothbrush out the day they show because they're only around for 1-2days before they wilt. Or if you have bees then all good. :) keep up the good work love your content!
Amazing videos! Thank you. I’ve been using ladybugs for the white lices on my peppers and tomatoes. 200 eggs are enough for my 2 large raise beds. Works perfectly.
Thank you so much for this channel! It's really great to see that so many people follow this idea of growing their own food and having a better understanding for biology and their environment!
Wonderful news, thanks for sharing. I know it is scary when facing the possibility of losing your home and the future is uncertain. Thank you for the content I have gathered ~90% of the materials I need to build my indoor 4 season NFT system, hoping it goes well.
with the cottonball technique in nft might have to print yourself an end cap for each of them so that the water level inside them is a bit higher in case the power goes out you have a shallow water level inside them to be used up
Your pH will always be an issue until your balance your EC for your location. EC 2.4 may be good for your winter, but in summer lower it, maybe 2. Anyway play around with the EC, the hotter it is, the more you lower it. On the topic of topping up. I kept a min level of nutrient with a float valve, and use a NPK solution. i.e Use monopotassium phosphate (MKP) and potassium nitrate (KNO3). Stock solution 200g salt to made 1L and use something like 0.3ml of MKP and 1.9ml of KNO3 per L.
Another excellent video! Again I can say enough how much I enjoy/appreciate you for showing all the problems and not just the successes. I'm very glad the community your have put so much time and effort into educating/entertaining stood up and supported you. Keep up the great work! I look forward to updates and new adventures. :)
Some more questions popping up, hope you don't mind 🤣 Is there a reason why you don't use white/ light reflecting buckets/ paint them in the kratky system as you did in other projects? How do you feel about sheep wool instead of cotton? (which can be problematic for the environment because of pesticide and water use) Definitely have to have a look at your older videos😍 all the best for you and your family ☺️
Ever think that maybe you could do an elevated reservoir for the NFT that would take a long while to drain with a sump of the same volume? As an alternative to a battery backup. Downside is needing double the reservoir, upside is not using battery backup or media.
The donation to the GoFundMe was the most inexpensive R&D ever. Finding out if a particular system idea would work might take an entire season with some plants. Check a few YTs here and one can find the success or failure in short order. The ground based system being an example.
When you figure out that rodent exclusion method, I will be curious. Have you thought about taking cuttings from your Kratky tomatoes to root and start another set of tomatoes growing? Also, if curious Bernie Kratky experienced some pH drop over the season with some nutrients. I believe he found Chem Gro was more pH stable.
You need to have a enclosed lockable rodent stations set outside the shade house and other areas. If I was close I would set up for you. See if you can find a pest control person or set up yourself. The rodent numbers will only increase with lots of food around, you need to do something soon
I have my lettuce in rockwool nft inside air-conditioned ext. Got a water leak and turned the pump off, 2 or 3 hours later, they were super wilted. Sprung right back, but outside in the heat, I don't think cotton or rockwool would be much different.
Thanks Hoocho. In regards to the strawberries, if it’s any help I tried 3 different types bags. White didn’t help. Anyway I tried black, black with white coving, white hello fresh freezer bag. Only 3 out of 10ish plants made it but still sad (all in freezer bag) but had few mid 30c days I’m a row, few weeks after planting. So didn’t get that much luck with the weather. But looked interesting so figured I would try it as well :)
YES! I was actually wondering when the next one was going to come! So excited for you! I wish I had known about the GoFundMe but I only subscribed a month or so ago. So proud of your progress, Hooch! Perhaps letting the cats out for controlling the rodent problem?
You mentioned your dragon fruit was water on top, drain to waste, but your original design was wicking. Did you make a video talking about the changes you made and why?
Only just found your channel and I'm thrilled. Great content and advice. As to your rodent issues, have you tried to spray your tomatoes with jalapeno solution as they aren't being eaten? As a complete hydroponic newbie I'm definitely going to dive into the infinite kratky method because of you.👍
I'm really interested in the super simple strawberry system but your update has me worried that they will not do well in Arizona. I thought I read somewhere that you could use mylar as ground cover but I think that would just cook the underside of the leaves.
What do you do with all the extra food man? I imagine you probably sell or give some away? If you haven't already please do a video on where the fruits of your labor end up? Ty H!
Love your channel. I want to build an in-house system for winter growing (live in Chicago area). Some issue that maybe not looked at in a positive way would be light broadcast and water sounds. Is there a vertical design that might fit the bill here?
I am really enjoying your channel, excellent! This may sound odd but what brand shorts do you wear? The fit amd cut looks like they are comfy, I really appreciate it. God bless.
For your warping 3d prints, I did not hear you mention what filament type you used. I have been researching filament types for automotive accessories. From best to worst based on what I have been able to find out (including some videos where side by side tests were done of test bridges on the dash of a car) Nylon, PETG or ASA/ABS (ABS handled slightly more heat, PETG was superior in most other respects including east of printing, but it CAN be hygroscopic, thus may theoretically have issues with hydroponics, I won't get to test ASA vs PETG in hydroponics til spring here in the states. For several reasons I prefer ASA over ABS including toxicity during printing as I do not have an enclosure vented outdoors yet, and ease of printing), and absolute last place was PLA variants, as they tend to print and warp under low temperatures, and black pla is going to be even worse as it will soak up heat from the sun. For the record, I am new to 3d printing. My interest has been focused on camping gear and automotive parts and accessories at this point, but I plan on expanding into a lot of different aspects of other aspects of my life and hobbies including building a couple hydroponic systems this spring. (Strawberry towers, tomato buckets, and NFT salad greens this year, expanding into more down the road) as well as accessories for raised bed gardening.
Your entry is making me smile more than Kramers entry in Seinfeld. Similar at least yours is real and amazing. Please check your mail, would love to hire your consultation.

Great way to start a day in Canada Hoocho!! Thanks for sharing your journey. Keep up the great work. I look forward to every upload. Cheers.

Thank you for sharing , I have learned so much by watching your vedio.
Thank you!
Your awesome Hoocho. Keep doin what your doin, we all thank you for great videos and way of life.
Your time lapse videos are always so much fun! Thank you for sharing them!!

Fuck winter!! Spring's just around the corner - hang in there
you can create ground space for other projects if you hang your channeling with the strawberries in it.

Can you spray the tomatoes with chili? That would upset what's trying to eat them, just remember to wash before eating unless you love chili...
thanks man, more diy home brew please
Hey mate. Great setup and info. I’m from gympie as well but I play around with aquaponics.
We need to collectively work together and get King Giz to play live song at Hoocho's place. Just image how good that montage would be!?!

Now That's a Knife Nice
Add twine bobbins for beans, tomato’s etc
17:21 living in Okinawa, they made fences out of dragon fruit plants because it was so prolific.

you make amazing videos full of information
How do you get the file for the 3 d printing in the pipe
Use PETG for filament. It is MUCH more heat resistant than the pla I'm guessing your using. I print it at 235 / 80 and about 25 or 30mm / s

What's the track you be using hoocho
How often is it watering the plants? 10 min of watering every hour?
Wow beautiful Plants ^^
Include Like 976 , I leave 3 presents.
Have a good relationship.

Hey man, don't forget you can smoke dry jalapeños and they become yummy Chipotle.

hahaha another solution for ya bro. set up a hot wire get the red and white electric fence line add some surveyors tape every so often so its noticeable, turn it on and the dogs will veryyyy quickly associate that tape with a shock then ya dont even need the power running just set up the line with the tape on it where ever ya wnt and they wont go near it... great for open dump rubbish pits too haha
Hooch.. you really should throw 40% shade cloth over the roof of your greenhouse.
