My theory, Poor Johnny, noones death should be a mystery, the logistic are pretty straight forward, i believe he got had for his money and drugs by any means, dosed and murdered to be passed on as jus another overdose bc the police didnt want to make something more than that .
So there are four different versions of this film floating around, none are the same length time wise, what’s the difference besides edits and whatnot? I did notice the quality fluctuates though🤷🏻♂️and which is the closest to what the director was going to release? Sorry, all these questions are floating through my head as I’m watching this.
I do think he was somehow falsely befriended or lipped off to the wrong couple guys (maybe both?)... then some how beat to Death (body bag shaped in a U could have been the fetal position) and dosed with some bad acid due to all of his money from his tour from Japan being stolen along with some of his prized guitars and the majority of his methadone. I think the guys who did it left enough methadone to make it look like an OD but they said the levels in his system were non-fatal and there were some sketchy people in that area, always, but that night in particular. Johnny was tough and smart but if someone hits you with the bad dose of acid (whether they drop it your drink or hold you down and force you to take it) and it's potent enough...you are simply going to wig out (johnny was not a big psychadelic guy that Ive heard). People say he took a bunch of methadone to try to come down and that's what killed him, but methadone takes forever to leave your system and the levels would still have been lethal in the toxicology report. Acid however will be long gone from the system in just a short period of time. Im open to other theories, and its interesting, sad, and we will likely never know.
That being said thats just my theory which is good as a guess. I agree with you theres 7, 8, mabe 15 ways or more it coulda went down, coulda been the leukemia but I doubt he would be rocking so hard the last year of his life with non treated leukemkia if you were months from dying...though it almost certainly would have, again in my opinion, a serious problem and probably have killed him by the mid late 90s if untreated. We will never know, as is said :/ RIP Johnny, changed the guitar, the scene, and my life forever. Also RIP to guys like Billy Murica, Jerry Nolan, Stiv Bators, Dee Dee Ramone, Willie, Razzle, Marc Bolan and many more.
@@nothx962 You can take an awful amount of methadone with tolerance. LD differs so much with tolerance. I hadn't heard the acid theory. I'm not a psychedelic guy. Always liked Downes. Now I'm clean.
I grew up in NOLA, and I still live here. Easily could've been a hundred people that rolled him for dope or money or whatever. Everybody acts friendly around here but if you don't know who they are it's easy to get taken in. We had a friend a few years ago that came down from NYC to see us play and met a girl in a bar, took her for a walk, got robbed at gunpoint from her actual boyfriend and then beaten so badly he was in the hospital for weeks. Happens every day, not as much anymore in the quarter since you have to almost be wealthy to live in most places, but it has always happened and probably always will.
Wow... New Orleans is a rough town, I think Johnny had a more romantic idea of it, but it doesn't seem like an easy area when you don't know too many people. Everybody seems to be incredibly poor and everybody's hustling and doing drink & drugs. And after Johnny died Mink DeVille just takes stuff from him; sunglasses, a hat, a jacket, etc. But who knows, maybe Johnny would have wanted him to have it. He came to NO because he wanted to make a record in the style that DeVille just made, he loved that record. (Also because he wanted to go there for years, and "to make a blues record with a bunch of old black blues musicians, and make them some money..") He saved up a lot of songs over the years, but never got the chance to bring them out. What a fucking shame.. He was also dying of Leukemia, if you look at the autopsy report in 'Looking For Johnny' he had advanced Leukemia and beginning cirrhosis of the liver, no HIV like many think. He knew he had Leukemia from the day his daughter was born in that hospital in Sweden in '88, I think he never told a lot of people because he wanted to protect his girlfriend and newborn daughter Jamie from that news...
