Exactly. I want a study that looks at how the brain reacts to controlling a limb it was not designed to handle. I believe the brain is flexible enough to handle it, but I want in-depth analysis. Soon, with this kind of outside thinking, we could have things like a brain-controlled hang glider (even powered versions). Not to mention the normal sci-fi extra limbs and things like that people would normally think about. Now, I'm a bit biased with my dream for flight, but a big drawback of wingsuits is the lack of real pitch control, making it impossible to land gently (like a bird). But in the future, things like prosthetic wings could actually be a reality, since brain controls are much faster and complex than a normal pilot would be able to handle. So we could have real, personal flight. But that's just scratching the surface of what could be possible in the near future. Perhaps it still won't be *affordable* per se, but just thinking about it gets me excited.

@@m.ivyluna4632 how do we find out more information about a prosthetic for a thumb? My husband lost his thumb and index finger on his left hand in a saw accident.
It's essentially a foot pedal. Are foot pedals banned in e-sports? Probably. I always thought some foot switches would be beneficial to playing games. More buttons, and independent of the hands.
Its still a prototype for a reason, doubtlessly they know that the completed product needs to be "walkable" . Maybe they will add some toe combination to signal if your walking or not, or put a computer in the machine to filter out walk cycle pressure.
That's why she said she's going to work with some neuro scientists. Maybe hardwiring the thumb directly into the human nervous system could provide some interesting designs. Then again the human mind does not naturally have the knowledge to move the third thumb so it would take some trial and error
Sure, but that can be fixed. Of course she didn't wire someone's brain to the prosthetic, way too much effort and complexity and can't just give it to people to try out. If we advance in prosthetics to have limbs be neurally wired like natural limbs, we can make this thumb obey as well, probably.
Actually thats not a bad idea.. we can actually be able to store food.. maintain that for longer time.. but yeh.. excess weight.. plus it will look weird as hell..
So if it's controlled by your toes, does that mean you can't control the thumb while you walk/run? Like, could I walk across the room with four wine glasses in one hand? All of the examples in the video had people standing still/sitting down.
id say it is a bit of a crutch of a controlling mechanism and is to be revised and redone in the future consider it a proof of concept, not a finished product
Several professional prosthetic designers have already gotten away from this form of interface and are perfecting some that interface directly with the brain, both wired and wireless. This is basically the level of a high school science fair compared to the level that is already in use. This is probably less of a viable product as it is a proof-of-concept for someone's resume.
The issue here is that there is no easy way to grab the motion information for an imaginary digit from the brain by sensing the right motor neurons, which is what regular prosthetic systems would do.
Our brains actually do not rely on thinking about how to make a appendage move, but what we intend for an appendage to accomplish, at least one prosthetic design company, using low profile electroencephalography has created an interface to operate whole arm replacements, with individual finger articulation, as well as wrist, elbow and shoulder, without the need to map neuropathways to former muscle groups. The portion of the brain that controls motor function is extremely adaptable as well, to the point of allowing other portions of the brain to learn to operate body parts that were once controlled by damaged or missing brain tissues. There really is no reason under those conditions that the brain would not be able to learn to operate a 6th digit on either or both hands seamlessly, just as easily as the users of this device learned to control it with their feet. My objection to the "technology" displayed in this video, is that it essentially impairs the user rather than empowers them, and has insufficient functionality to justify the loss, just as the older style hand replacements used the bicep muscle to provide force and control to grip, at the loss of full bicep function. The current goal of every designer of prosthetic should be to restore or enhance function without losses, so designing a device that gives a minor increase in functionality at the major loss of other functionality is working backwards, technologically speaking.
Itz Johanna the strap is not connected to any part of the thumb and the controller is at the feet. If you had not thumbs, you still could use it. It would just be your "second thumb."
if they make it attached via nerves, i don't think you will be able to even move it for a while because i don't think the brain will just suddenly learn/accept the new digit immediately. after that it will just become natural and soon you'll be fluently playing guitar or even piano with that extra thumb and be able to play slightly more complicated pieces.
Golden There was a guy who made a third arm controlled by tensing the muscles in his thigh. After awhile, he said that he didn't even think about using the arm, it just happened. The brain remapped how it viewed his body in order to adapt to the new limb.
it was just for show and in fact utterly useless. You have to push bottons with your feet to achieve a clunky unprecise movement. Its disgusting how people hype up their lies and how hordes of naive "science" fans circle fap around it.
I feel like you can't fully understand it unless you try it and I'm so there to try it!! This is so interesting. And definitely opens up a whole world of possibilities. What's it like having a third arm? 😄
Without it linking directly into the brain though it has extremely limited use. Toes are nowhere near as dextrous as fingers, and there's no way you could pilot a whole arm with any kind of precision with your toes.
You mean 2nd thumb right? 'Cause you do know we only have 1 thumb and 1+1=2 Edit: Nevermind... I'm just stupid and didn't count my other thumb on my other hand..

flameshana9 I prefer people-kind because human kind has man in the word and it feels like it's assuming my gender.

the doctor octopus age is close I can feel it
With neuralink we are that much closer
This hurts my brain to look at 😱 ahhhhh
Cody Whitlock
yeah, 5 fingers are cute...but 6 is a useful number
Yeah its so unsatisfying
Not beacuse its 6
Theres something about it i really really hate and i think that will make my brain explode
iki hiyori Maybe it's because it doesn't look like a normal finger. That's the case for me, at least.
wat bout third weener
AlphaOmega might wanna get urself checked lol
So you have a double barrel?
Veloci raptor double the barrel, double the load
I don't think your current condition of even having 2 weiners is normal.
just turn into an echidna
But... That's just wasting your little finger...
It was already a waste. THUMB SUPERIORITY
ua-cam.com/video/Osp4IFfktiU/v-deo.html
Stuart Morrow I was about to desagree, but thanks for reminding me of Lindy's point...
Ethan Dembitz no. You lose your pinky you lose 50 percent of your strength.
PINKIES FOR LIFE MAN
pinkies are not a waste, they serve purpose of crouching and sprinting.
Dont point that middle finger at me
Oh wait
i got 4 middle fingers
2 on each hand
just like u
unless u missing a finger or more
Already banned in all Esports
Ranger Furby Would this seriously give you any edge?
Hey, anything counts in Esports.
Kenan Šabić A massive edge especially for those using a keyboard
Ranger Furby lmao
It's essentially a foot pedal. Are foot pedals banned in e-sports? Probably.
I always thought some foot switches would be beneficial to playing games. More buttons, and independent of the hands.
But the middle finger will cease to be!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I have it
GeneralJoemalia no
To masturbate?
The Dog Woah
leonmb98 lol
I dont know, CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN you?
Can we please get it between my thumb and forefinger because it is so much space between them!
What if you walk with it? All the toes move so...
yeah...maybe a future concept, but this exact one seems pretty silly
Its still a prototype for a reason, doubtlessly they know that the completed product needs to be "walkable" . Maybe they will add some toe combination to signal if your walking or not, or put a computer in the machine to filter out walk cycle pressure.
You prolly have to temporarily stop it while walking...
That's why she said she's going to work with some neuro scientists. Maybe hardwiring the thumb directly into the human nervous system could provide some interesting designs.
Then again the human mind does not naturally have the knowledge to move the third thumb so it would take some trial and error
@@Vishydeenu Hand... pick up... the ball!
This would look great with general grievous cosplay XD
HORRIOR
lol
HORRIOR a fine addition to my collection
General kenobi
YUUUUUUSSSSSS
Hello there!
It took me a good minute to realise that it was an actual prosthetic thumb opposite to the real thumb
Theavy Barmes who has a grey thumb?
Theavy Barmes thanks for trying :/. He just seems to blank to understand 😂
I thought the title was
*Third Thumb Changes The Prostitute Game*
super cool unitlllll you gotta move your toes to use it. i'm out
Sure, but that can be fixed. Of course she didn't wire someone's brain to the prosthetic, way too much effort and complexity and can't just give it to people to try out. If we advance in prosthetics to have limbs be neurally wired like natural limbs, we can make this thumb obey as well, probably.
What if you don't have toes or missing them
Your toes too busy there, Mr. Busy-Toes?
Whats so bad about moving ur toes :0
It's essentially the same as driving a car. With practice it becomes automatic
Imagine an extra stomach so you can eat twice the junk food!
extra stomach that filters out bad stuff and removes through extra anus
Wooooaaahhh
Actually thats not a bad idea.. we can actually be able to store food.. maintain that for longer time.. but yeh.. excess weight.. plus it will look weird as hell..
I would like that very very much🤔‼️‼️
Zaxor Von Skyler double the expenses nope.
So if it's controlled by your toes, does that mean you can't control the thumb while you walk/run? Like, could I walk across the room with four wine glasses in one hand? All of the examples in the video had people standing still/sitting down.
id say it is a bit of a crutch of a controlling mechanism and is to be revised and redone in the future
consider it a proof of concept, not a finished product
I can't understand why is it called third thumb not second thumb
That's helpful for people who don't have thumbs
Itz Johanna, but troublesome for those who don't have feet.
Itz Johanna the strap is not connected to any part of the thumb and the controller is at the feet. If you had not thumbs, you still could use it. It would just be your "second thumb."
No doy
if they make it attached via nerves, i don't think you will be able to even move it for a while because i don't think the brain will just suddenly learn/accept the new digit immediately. after that it will just become natural and soon you'll be fluently playing guitar or even piano with that extra thumb and be able to play slightly more complicated pieces.
Golden There was a guy who made a third arm controlled by tensing the muscles in his thigh. After awhile, he said that he didn't even think about using the arm, it just happened. The brain remapped how it viewed his body in order to adapt to the new limb.
Dang that's awesome! Wish I can make these kind of things...
I commenting saying something similar, so please don't think I'm plagiarising. Plus I agree with you.
Andrew Ferrante lol no problem. Happens a lot.
Its a college project bud
Six fingers, im imagine Ford from Gravity falls now. Lol
UA-cam Tan same
Hiya. It would be awesome for cosplays
Same xdxd
Don't you know, 6 fingers is more dominant then 5 fingers? :V
MVK - San But sometimes the gene is silenced. Double anomaly
That could come in handy.
a strap-on for your hand?
Literally.
I hope wakanda will be the future
doni zetta wakanda forever
WE WUZ WAKANDAZ N SHIET
The first thing I think: more video game hotkeys for my csgo and so on
lol me too
General Grievous from Star Wars got two
Can liquids/ juices touch it, and still work? Asking for a friend..........
TreTre McBongrips lol, we all know what liquids your talking about you sly dog
Next step: Dock Ock.
I would like to hear that guitar though
if you look closely, the extra thumb wasnt actually touching the strings at all. so it would have sounded like a regular guitar.
it was just for show and in fact utterly useless. You have to push bottons with your feet to achieve a clunky unprecise movement. Its disgusting how people hype up their lies and how hordes of naive "science" fans circle fap around it.
Absolutely amazing! I wish you all the best in developing it further. The world needs more people like you. Well done!
1 thumb for like, 1 thumb for dislike
But where does the third one go?
apple :- i thumb, "we made something, never made before"
samsung :- thumb galaxy, "rethink what your hands can do"
I feel like you can't fully understand it unless you try it and I'm so there to try it!! This is so interesting. And definitely opens up a whole world of possibilities. What's it like having a third arm? 😄
Jera Sky I need two more arms tbh
Crimson Typhoon.
Without it linking directly into the brain though it has extremely limited use. Toes are nowhere near as dextrous as fingers, and there's no way you could pilot a whole arm with any kind of precision with your toes.
Erik Tran
Thunderbolt formation
Why do people like you exist
You mean 2nd thumb right? 'Cause you do know we only have 1 thumb and 1+1=2
Edit: Nevermind... I'm just stupid and didn't count my other thumb on my other hand..
Lmao same I thought that too 😂🤣🤣
1 thumb
on each hand
+1 thumb
on each hand
---------------------
4 thumbs
on each hand
I give the inventor of this a thumbs up
JVCD but what is a thumbs up anymore?
Three thumbs up now, thanks to this lady.
Anyone notice the meme at 0:45?
risang wisesa there is no meme
That is NOT a meme.
i saw a lot rambo thumbs up meme XD
It's a pun for all those who got triggered over the fact that it's not a meme smh😑. Thumbs up picture and ya got this video about an extra thumb sooooo get the joke?
Finally
I need a tail or wings please yeah wings will be just perfect
Rai Gin aren't they already have a tail??
Rai Gin ..... no
Wings would be pretty huge humans weigh a lot.
Rai Gin here you go wings you fly so high into the sky you start to get cold really cold you fly so high you pass out now you descend to meet a gruesome death TL;DR WINGS ARE NOT A GOOD IDEA
You can't go high enough to get cold with wings(if they work like birds ones) cause the air is too thin up that high.
i remember seeing this before gravity falls and wanting it
now i want it even more
