I’m watching this now not a day out of high school weeping for the past and scared for the future but coming here has shown me the journey doesn’t end just because you stop but it continues on even when we don’t.So for you Ms.Maya I’m going to be brave. I’m going to live and love in the present and not worry about the stress of tomorrow or bathe in the memories of the past. R.I.P To a phenomenal woman. I love you Ms.Maya

I know exactly what you mean. Then I started to think I can actually kind of be in her presence, by taking her words to heart a bit more at a time.

MY heart bleeds because your physical presence on this earth is no more. Yet my soul rejoices because I know that the essence of you will always remain with us. Maya, you are and forever will be a PHENOMENAL woman!

George, if I may call you George, it has been your privileged to have been in the presence of one of those special people of the human race. It has been our privilege as viewers to have shared in the conversation you had with Maya Angelou and I am sure it will remain in your memory, until you too will reach the same destination the journey of life affords us all.

Amazing. If anyone else had spoke to Tupac (Oprah), there would have been cameras and questions and what not. Maya just is. She reached out as an elder to the young angry man and reached him to touch him, not for our entertainment. We each of us has a task, to nurture some wisdom in ourselves because one day we WILL have to pass wisdom on to someone else. She will be missed.

I can't believe that I was able to get through 12 years of school and too not have learned about this amazing person, I cant wait to learn more about her and her life. A true role model we should all know, not only for her writing but also for her kindness, and willingness to love and teach.

Thank You Mr. Stroumboulopoulos for this very short, yet so informative interview. You managed to cover a lot of ground and didn't flinch in your approach and you gave Dr. Angelou yet one more chance to prove to us again why we admire her so much. Maya never just talked the talk, she walked it, lived it, breathed it. What she says at 12:58 ..."Tell the Truth...First to yourself, then to the Children..." is where it should begin, for all us. Start with the truth...

God has called you home Dr. Angelou. Although I am saddened by your passing, I thank God for sharing you with us. You will always be honored and remembered fondly. The works you leave behind will be read/watched for many generations to come. In this way you accomplished your goal in being the representative of your race...the HUMAN race.

I love *present tense* this woman, always have. She has always been a soothing voice of truth, but she made no qualms about calling you to the line for any wrong you may have done.
It is funny how your giants seem immortal until they aren't. I knew she was very aged, but didnt think about her physical breakdown. If you watch closely, her right side was very weak here. Any time she lifted the right arm..she supported it with the left. I am happy however, that she aged and left this earth as she wished, with her mind FULLY in tact. Rest well beautiful.

Why is there such need to bring prostitution into a question and to an 80 year old woman, yes Ms Angelou may have admitted warts and all regarding her youth but for the sake of God is it truly that needed in an interview to talk of it ?,and from such a brilliant brave wonderful mind as that of the very important Maya Angelou.

what she'd say to us on embarking on a new year (2013)... and on the ancestors --
tell the truth, to yourself first, and to the children. live in the present. don't deny the past. live in the present, and know the charge on you is to make this country more than it is today. and our country, to make this more than these yet to be united states. and to make canada all that it can be for all the people who've come there with their thirst for freedom and fair play. that's true of japan, that's true of australia. we have to do something. we have to be up and coming, up and doing.
we owe it. we've already been paid for whether the ancestors came from eastern europe trying to escape by the pogroms and little and large murders. if the ancestors came from ireland trying to escape the potato blight... wherever they've come from, they've paid for each of us already. and all we really have to do is pay for those who are yet to come.

what i got from this interview "she said NO to mr. king when he asked her to raise money for a campain bc she had to throw a party in nyc for her suffisticated friends, she switched from clinton to obama party when she steped down, hypocritical.

    • @smokymcpot9995

that's what you got??? and by the way clinton and obama belong to the same democratic party, she didnt switch teams, she just continued to fight the same cause when clinton stepped down.......
